Chapter Text
Link lay on the cold, wet floor. He could hear the taunting laughter of Ganondorf echo through the dark cavern they were in. Link could hear the sounds of battle continue to radiate from behind the rubble that had trapped him with Ganondorf. Everything hurt. He couldn't tell where the blood ended and the Gloom began.
"Oh Hylia. I'm dying, aren't I." He thought. "No, I don't want to. Not yet. Please, Golden goddesses, Hylia, anyone. Let me have this. Let me live. The Sages are still out there, fighting. Zelda is still trapped in the form of a dragon. Ganondorf is still here. Please. Let me see the Chain one last time."
"I'm sorry young hero. It's too late now. But fret not, you will not leave this plane yet. Your princess, Hyrule and the Heroes of Old still require your aid, you shall just appear in a different form to them. I'm sorry I cannot do more my child."
Wild smiled. Weakly. But he smiled. And that's how he died. Smiling calmly as his body went cold, as he breathed his final breath, as everything faded away.

"LINK!" Riju practically screamed as she and the three other stages finally made it through the rubble. The one who had helped her so much. Guided her powers when she couldn't control it herself, protected her home as though it was his own, helped her become the leader she was now. Gone. And she'd done nothing to prevent it. Then she saw him. Ganondorf. Stood, looking proud of himself. It made Riju feel sick. She glanced at Tulin, who was already notching an arrow into into his bow. The young Rito nodded at the small Gerudo woman.
As Tulin and Riju prepared their attack Yunobu was pulling Link into his arms and trying to get Sidon's attention. The Zoran man had frozen the moment he set eyes on Link. He only snapped out of his daze as Yonobu begun to pull him away and a crack of lightning echoed through the cavern. Coming back to his senses, Sidon started running and gently pulled his arm away from Yunobu.
The five four made use of the short time they had while Ganondorf was stunned. As soon as they passed the rubble, Sidon carefully took Link's limp body and Yunobu prepared to slam himself into the rubble, causing it to collapse once again, trapping Ganondorf in.
The sages hurried back to Lookout Landing, they knew it was too late, but part of them still clung onto the hope that Purah could help. They burst into Purah's lab, scaring the life out of the poor scientist. She was about to shout at them. And then she saw him.
"W-what happened? Linky? Link?" She shook her head, blinking back tears. She turned around, haphazardly swiping her work off her desk onto the floor, then stepped aside. Sidon took that as his que to carefully set Link's now freezing body on the table.
