Nervous Energy

Summary:

Gilderoy hadn't been nervous about dates since the first few ones he went on.

Work Text:

Gilderoy hadn't been nervous about dates since the first few ones he went on. He really shouldn't be a jittery, sweaty mess. He shouldn't be constantly readjusting his jacket and looking at himself in store reflections. He should be sitting on the curb, phone in hand, teasing Millard to make him worry a little more. He had promised to behave on this date, but he could still make Millard fear that he'd break the rule.

It was funny for him. It also felt a bit like revenge, for all those 'no's Millard gave him to cover for him.

That was what he should've been doing. Instead he was half panicked with nerves, terrified that he would mess this up.

His phone pinged and Gilderoy practically jumped a foot in the air. He fumbled for his phone, found it in one of his pockets, and looked at the text.

[Where are you?]

It was from Auguste.

Gilderoy took a deep breath and looked around. Auguste stood by the flower planters near the bakery cafe. He looked good. Elegant. Handsome. And those dark slacks made his legs look so long. Gilderoy thought he would swoon.

[I see you] he replied and walked over. He watched Auguste stare at his phone then look around. He watched Auguste's eyes light up when he saw him.

It made Gilderoy's heart skip a beat. He grinned, his nerves forgotten, and waved a hand. Auguste was already running over, and he threw himself at Gilderoy as soon as he was close enough. Gilderoy braced himself so he wouldn't fall over and wrapped his arms around Auguste.

"Hello," Auguste greeted as he pulled away from the hug.

Gilderoy pointedly looked him up and down and grinned. "Hello to you too, handsome."

Auguste laughed. "You're the one to talk! You make varsity jackets look good!"

"That true? Or is it that the varsity jackets make me look good?"

Auguste laughed again. Gilderoy didn't think he would ever get tired of that sound.

"Come, I want ice cream!" Auguste cheerfully demanded and grabbed his hand. "I know the most fanciful parlor! Have you ever had semifreddo before?"

"That sounds like a pasta dish."

Auguste laughed. "It most certainly is not! Come on." He walked ahead and tugged on Gilderoy's hand. "Let me educate you."

"You can educate me on any subject you want." Gilderoy replied coyly.

Auguste laughed again. He went on to talk about what semifreddo was, and Gilderoy listened attentively. They walked together, hand in hand, fingers entwined with each other, and Gilderoy thought this might be the closest thing he's ever gotten to bliss.
