A Terrible Guide On How to Get a Girlfriend By: An Shiraishi

Summary:

“What do you mean?” Kohane asks with an eyebrow raised, confused about where An could be going with this. It wouldn't be the first time she's been confused out of her mind about something her partner has said. “We aren't dating.”

“Yes we are.”

or

An decides that the best prank in the world is gaslighting your best friend into believing you've been dating for years. Obviously!

Notes:

Hai chat ☺️☺️

This was inspired by a Chenji (nct) fanfic I read a while ago, BUT I LITERALLY CAN'T FIND IT ANYMORE SO I'M SORRY I LOOKED FOR SO LONG 😭😭😭😭😭 (if anyone can find it I'll kiss u on the lips probably)

This is also my first time writing a real fic that's like not as a joke for a friend, so bear with me I'm learning more as I go 💔💔

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Tellling my best friend we're dating prank!!! (GONE WRONG)

Chapter Text

In hindsight, An really wasn't the one to blame for this whole situation.

Technically, this is all Akito’s fault. Everything happened because he left practice early with Toya, muttering some lame excuse about them having reservations they couldn't miss or some gay shit like that. It made An sick. Not because she was homophobic, but because she just really hated to see Akito happy.

Either way, that's how she ended up here. Alone in her room with Kohane, lying on her bed together. She spent her time lazily scrolling through her phone, switching apps every 15 minutes, her other hand playing with Kohane’s hair. She always told An how much she loved it when she did that.

It was on the third couple's post she saw that she genuinely started to get angry. First, Haruka and Minori post themselves on their third date this week. Then Mizuki’s greedy ass posts her two girlfriends. And now she's face-to-face with some corny post from Akito about Toya?!

She knows that Valentine's Day is coming up. She's not stupid. But she assumed that these couples would at least wait until the day to post each other. Akito literally never even posts! He's actually doing this just to spite her.. She swears it.

“Kohane?” An breaks the comfortable silence between the two, causing the blonde to look up and hum a small sound of acknowledgment, she's clearly a little tired. An feels a bit bad, but she has to talk to someone else about this. “Everyone's been flaunting their relationship recently.. Right? I'm not crazy? Right??”

Kohane had noticed that all of her friends were getting into relationships, but she just never really... cared? She loves love; she likes seeing all of the people she loves so much find special people of their own. It makes her happy. She can tell from the way that An looks that she does not feel the same way.

“I mean.. I guess? I don't really know.” Kohane decides to reply; she takes the safest option. She doesn't want to piss An off even more.

An was salty. She's gone her whole life without a damn girlfriend. That really gets to people y'know!

“Well, there's no reason for them to always post each other. Valentine's Day isn't for another two weeks! There's no possible way that they love each other this much.” An couldn’t help the bitter tone of her voice. She knows how crazy she sounds, and she knows she should probably shut up. Yet, the words don't seem to be able to stop. She's jealous. So very jealous.

“Why else would they be dating if they didn't love each other?" Kohane asks slowly, trying to understand just exactly what An is trying to say. She can tell that she doesn't know either; she's literally just saying shit.

An opens her mouth to respond, then she actually thinks about Kohane’s words and realizes she’s right. So she shuts the hell up.

“Well.. whatever.. I'd never post you this much,” An mumbles, pulling her phone back out to continue her doomscrolling.

“We aren’t dating.” Kohane replies, reaching up to place An’s free hand back on her hair. She really does love the feeling.

Now, this is where An fucked up. See, a normal person’s response to that would be a simple ‘Yeah, we aren’t. You’re right, Kohane!’ And then move on. Simple, really.

An is not a normal person.

“What do you mean?”

Kohane blinks, now that got her attention.

“What do you mean?” Kohane asks with an eyebrow raised, confused about where An could be going with this. It wouldn't be the first time she's been confused out of her mind about something her partner has said. “We aren't dating.”

“Yes we are.”

If she had given even a second of thought to her words, maybe she would have realized how absolutely insane that joke sounds. But, she's An Shiraishi. A lot of her thinking comes after she speaks.

Listen, she swears up and down that she doesn't have any feelings for Kohane—despite what literally anyone who knows her would tell you—she acts completely normal around her! (She internally freaks out whenever Kohane is within like a foot of her)

None of that really matters, though. She expects Kohane to immediately shut her down anyway, like she has a million times before, whenever An tries something dumb like this. Yet, she doesn't actually say…. anything…?  She just stares at her with wide eyes, like her brain is still computing her words.

She can tell that Kohane is even more confused, and briefly considers taking it back. She knows she could; the joke is still fresh. But that's boring. An refuses to be boring.

“What? Don't tell me you forgot! We’ve been dating for two years, babe.” An adds that fake hint of hurt in her tone, the one that she knows always makes Kohane feel a little bad. She's probably having a little too much fun with this.

Kohane stares a little longer, like she's expecting a laugh or a ‘just kidding’. But when it doesn’t come? She panics.

“No- No! Of course I haven't forgotten! How could I ever?” She sits up, the desperate, panicked tone in her voice almost made An want to burst into laughter.

There's no way Kohane actually believes this, right? No. That's not possible. She sees what's going on here. Kohane sees right through her lie, and instead of shutting it down, she's playing along. Well, An refuses to be the one to fold first.

“Good. Because you'd better have something planned for Valentine’s Day.” An turns her head away, continuing to feign hurt. She's actually just trying not to laugh in Kohane’s face.

Though for Kohane? This is serious business. Is there even a possible way you could be dating someone for two years without knowing? Well.. She has always been a little forgetful. It is absolutely possible that An asked her out one day, and she could've just been tired and not listening to her, or she might have just misheard her and agreed one day. Actually, that's probably exactly what happened.

“H-hey.. No, of course I have something planned for you!” Kohane places her hand on her partner's shoulder, rubbing her arm in some weird attempt at comforting her. An is literally shaking; oh no, this must have really hurt her.

“I promise I have something absolutely amazing planned for you…love?” The pet name sounds more like a question and less like an actual term of endearment. Like, Kohane isn't fully sure she can even say it. Though that seems to be the thing that makes An actually turn around, a new pink tint to her face that she's sure wasn't there before.

Well, An was not expecting this. It's rare for her to get this genuinely flustered from a prank. She has to give it to Kohane; she's really selling this. She notices the blonde's expression. God, she looks genuinely panicked. Who knew she was such a good actress? She has to step up her game.

“You're Adorable, you know?” She grins, bringing her finger up and tapping her partner’s nose. She cringes internally at her overused line.

Kohanes’s worried expression drops into something more annoyed, and a lot more familiar to her. She should've known An wasn't actually sad. She scoffs, rolling her eyes. “You're the corniest person I know.”

“Hey! That's absolutely no way to talk to your—very beautiful—girlfriend,” An replies, flicking the other on her forehead, making her let out a small yelp of pain.

Kohane rubs her forehead, yet at the mention of the word ‘girlfriend’, she freezes again. Just for a second, then she regains herself. She never does respond to that though. Instead, she stands up from An’s bed and slips her jacket back on.

“You're leaving already?” An mutters, propping herself up on her elbow. That stupid kicked puppy expression is back on her face. Kohane hates it.

“It's late. And we both have school tomorrow,” She replies, staying turned away from An. Simply because she wouldn't be able to say no to her if she looked at her like that again.

An would argue, but she's right. She does have school tomorrow. She just doesn't want Kohane to leave.

“I'll be back later tomorrow,” Kohane adds. She watches An’s face literally light up at her words. (She unfortunately had to turn around; she left her phone on An’s bed)

“You Promise?”

“I promise”

An’s grin was so wide, it was actually starting to hurt her cheeks a little bit. It never does leave, even as she watches Kohane exit her home and walk out into the night. She loves spending time with her.

It never actually hits her until she gets back into her room and lies back on her bed.

Is she like…actually dating Kohane now..?

Well. That's a problem for tomorrow!
