We’re looking for something dumb to do (hey baby, I think I wanna marry you)

Summary:

Buck misses Eddie whilst he’s in Texas and gets drunk and ends up buying an engagement ring. The problem? They’re not dating and Eddie is “straight” or is he? And what if Eddie ends up finding the ring on accident?

Notes:

Hey all! How would you guys like some fluff instead of angst for a change? This has been in my Wip pile for a while so I hope you enjoy! Also who’s hyped for the new season starting today?! I know I am.

Work Text:

Here is the thing, Buck doesn’t remember buying the ring.

It was late at night when Buck was scrolling on his tablet. Eddie had left for Texas and Buck was struggling with his feelings and emotions about all that so yes, he may have been a little tipsy when he saw a ring that made him think of Eddie. Whenever Buck thinks about Eddie, his heart flutters and he feels like a teenage boy having a crush. Buck has had crushes before but never on his best friend before. When Maddie asked him if being in love with Eddie would be so crazy, Buck panicked.

At first he just thought it was platonic love he felt for Eddie, that he just admired him because Buck admires how strong Eddie is emotionally and physically. Eddie is a great father to a great kid and Buck doesn’t want to mess anything up. And if whilst he was still drunk, he grabbed a notebook to sloppily write down vows he would say to Eddie at their wedding then that's between him and the quietness of the house. The quietness that Buck is starting to hate. He misses hearing Christopher's laughter and Eddie chuckling softly at something they're doing as Buck cooks the three of them dinner.

Buck misses having Eddie hovering in the kitchen doorway, leaning against it, telling him that whatever he is cooking smells delicious and then him coming to stand next to Buck as Buck grabs a small spoon and asks him to try the sauce he's working on because he thinks he's going insane and it's going to break him even though he's studied the recipe several times. He misses the way Eddie wouldn't take the spoon from him but just put the spoon in his mouth whilst Buck is still holding it.

Thinking about the way Eddie would look up at him through his eyelashes as he hums softly before telling Buck that it's perfect and to not worry. God Buck shouldn't of kept that image in his mind because now he was getting horny and a horny drunk Buck would end up doing something really stupid.

That stupid thing was buying Eddie an engagement ring that will arrive in the next couple of days and his mind thinks "I hope the ring fits. If not I'll just have to take it to get resized." Completely forgetting that him and Eddie aren't actually in a relationship currently and that Eddie isn't miles away in Texas and not just down the hall in his- well Buck's bedroom now sleeping away.

He should’ve known that him going on a drunk spending spree would bite him in the ass later down the line.

Which is why, he felt himself panic as he was in the kitchen of Eddie’s house- well their house now that he and Chris are back from Texas now, making them lunch. It was the weekend and they both had the day off and Christopher was in his room playing some video games when Eddie came and stood in his usual spot in the doorway.

“Buck, what’s this?” Buck turned to see Eddie holding a ring box and Buck felt his stomach drop. Before Buck can think of a plausible answer, Eddie opens the box and Buck moves to slam it shut and he grabs the box. Buck starts to feel the panic rise in his chest.

“I-It’s nothing!” Buck exclaims. "Don't worry about it-"

Eddie raises an eyebrow before saying “oh really? If it’s nothing then you’d let me see it.” Eddie is coming towards him and Buck backs away but Eddie takes a step towards him. Buck hears Christopher making his way to the kitchen and thinks that this is the perfect opportunity to move away and hide the ring box behind his back. Maybe he can be sneaky and hide it somewhere high up where Eddie can't reach or find it and maybe he will forget about it.

Christopher is now in the doorway of the kitchen and asks “Dad, Buck, what’s going on? I can hear you two arguing about something." Buck knows he’s screwed.

“It’s nothing Chris, besides, lunch is almost ready.” Buck smiles nervously.

Christopher looks at him and gets the same look Eddie has on his face. Buck would be smiling at that if he wasn't so panicked.

Christopher asks him “if it’s nothing, then why are you hiding it behind your back?” He raises an eyebrow. He sees that Eddie has a smirk on his lips and in that moment, Buck realises he has two options.

One, he could lie and tell them he brought it for Tommy, which Buck doesn’t really want to say because the thought of that man makes him angry. Him telling Buck he was glad Eddie was gone made him so pissed that he kicked him out but Eddie doesn't know about that because buck didn't tell him. He didn't want to tell him that Tommy implied he wasn't straight and saw him as competition because what would Eddie's reaction be? Would he be mad or would he laugh off the situation and tell Buck that Tommy is ridiculous for thinking that?

Buck tries not to let his heart give him hope that Eddie could say that it is true. That he is gay and in love with Buck and he wants to raise Christopher with him and have more children with Buck if that's what Buck wants because that's just a dream. A dream he keeps having every night and waking up to Eddie cuddling him every morning because he rolled over in his sleep isn't helping his situation at all.

Or the second option, he could tell the truth and say it was Eddie’s birthday present and he ruined the surprise. Before he could say an option, he notices that Eddie is holding the ring box again.

“H-how did you-“ Buck is shocked.

Christopher giggles. “You were too busy panicking to notice dad grabbing it.” Buck groans and rubs his face.

Eddie opens the ring box and Buck doesn’t want to see his reaction. He feels hot all over and he's so embarrassed because what if Eddie reads his mind and knows it's an engagement ring for him?!

“Buck…..this is an engagement ring-“ Eddie gets out and Buck opens his eyes to see Eddie's eyes are wide. Now Buck is panicking more. He sees Chris coming over to look at the ring too and if Chris wasn't here he'd try and be brave and tell Eddie the truth but he knows he wouldn't be brave enough in that scenario either. Buck stays quiet as he feels lost for words.

"When did you buy this? And for who? You didn't tell me you were seeing anyone." Eddie tells him as Christopher grabs the box from Eddie's hand to look at the ring.

"I-I'm not seeing anyone." Buck tells him because it's the truth. He could've lied and made up someone he's seeing but he doesn't because he doesn't like lying to Eddie.

Christopher soon hands Eddie back the box and says "I'm going to go into the living room." And leaves.

Buck calls after him "ok! I'll bring you lunch in a second!" Once Christopher leaves, Buck turns back to Eddie who's admiring the ring like he did when Chimney showed them the ring he got Maddie. Buck can't help but feel warmth spread through his chest at that.

"It's a beautiful ring Buck. Whoever you give it to is a lucky person." Eddie tells him before closing the box and handing it to Buck.

Buck blurts out "funny you say that actually because I brought this for you-" Buck wishes another bolt of lightning would strike him down right there in Eddie's kitchen. He prays that the ground would swallow him whole. Anything to get him out of this situation he's in right now. He gets the courage to look back at Eddie and Eddie is wide eyed and his cheeks are bright red.

Buck panics and rambles "I was drunk when I brought it and I was missing you because you were in Texas and I feel so stupid right now. I'm sorry Eddie I will return the ring and we can forget this whole thing happened-"

"You brought me an engagement ring?" Eddie whispers so quietly that Buck swears he wouldn't of caught it.

"I- yes. I'm so sorry Eddie if that makes you uncomfortable-" Buck tells him. "Like I said, I can return the ring and I can start looking for a place to live and move out as soon as possible-"

"It's fine Buck. Really. Keep the ring. You don't have to move out. I'm just- I'm just shocked because it's a really nice ring…." Eddie admits whilst fiddling with his own hands and Buck knows that Eddie is nervous.

Buck smiles nervously at him. "I guess drunk me has excellent taste." He jokes and that makes Eddie laugh and calm his nerves a bit and Buck wants to puff out his chest with pride at that. It was just a little thing of him calming Eddie down but it always makes him feel happy when he's the one to calm Eddie's nerves.

"I guess so." Eddie tells him and Buck slips the ring box in his pocket and they both finish lunch and go to enjoy it with Chris.

They don't talk about it again. Buck puts the ring box in his sock drawer before him and Eddie get ready for bed. They're both laying on their sides of the bed and Buck is staring up at the ceiling.

"I can hear you thinking Buckley. What's up?" Eddie mumbles sleepily and Buck can hear him roll over to face him. Buck rolls onto his side and is looking at Eddie. The room is dark with only the street lamps on outside but Buck can see Eddie has his eyes open looking at him. "What are you thinking about?" Eddie asks.

"Hypothetically. If I was to propose to you, would you of…." Buck asks and then whispers the last part like a secret at a sleepover. "Would you of said yes?"

Buck watched Eddie think for a moment before Eddie whispers "I think I'm a hypothetical scenario, I would, yes. Depending on if in this scenario it was super romantic."

Buck chuckles softly and whispers "of course it would be. I'd make it so romantic for you."

"Oh really? And how would you do that?" Eddie whispers.

The thing is, Buck has thought about how he would propose to Eddie in a dream scenario. "I would make us a picnic with all of your favourite foods that I cooked myself and we'd drive out of the city to somewhere with no light pollution and I'd set up a blanket and picnic for the two of us to enjoy. We would watch the sunset and then we'd star gaze for a while. Maybe you'd let me ramble about constellations for a while-"

Eddie whispers "I would." And it makes Buck smile.

Buck continues. "Then, if the universe is nice to us, we'd see a shooting star and I'd get you to sit up and tell you to close your eyes and make a wish and you'd do that and then I'd get on one knee and tell you to open your eyes and then I'd ask you will you marry me?" Buck feels his heart beating inside his chest. It's quiet for a moment before Buck hears Eddie take in a breath.

"Oh." Eddie whispers softly. If the lights were on, Buck would've seen how red Eddie's cheeks were as he has a hand over his mouth slightly.

"Oh? That bad?" Buck partly jokes but somewhere in the back of his mind, he's telling himself that it's a stupid way to propose to someone and that Eddie deserves better.

"No! It's- it's actually perfect, Buck." Eddie whispers. "Who knew you were such a romantic." He teases softly.

Buck rolls his eyes playfully before whispering "I'll have you know I'm a big romantic at heart. I'd even bring you flowers on that hypothetical proposal."

Eddie whispers back "oh really? You would? What flowers?"

Buck thinks for a moment. What flowers would he bring Eddie hypothetically? Roses are typical and Buck wants to do something different. Eddie deserves different and the best.

"I'd bring you a custom bouquet. One I'd make the effort to make myself. I know how to do that you know." Buck admits. He spent one night not being able to sleep during the first week or so when Eddie was in Texas. He made his first custom bouquet for Maddie and she loved it. She asked what the occasion was for the flowers and he told her that he learned how to make them on one of his "I can't sleep so I'm going to do research on random things."

She had rolled her eyes fondly at him and told him that he does actually need to sleep eventually.

"You know how to make custom bouquets?" Eddie whispers before yawning which makes Buck yawn too.

"Yes, on a late night research binge. You know me." Buck jokes and he closes his eyes.

"I do. Night Buck." Eddie whispers as Buck moves back to lay on his back with his eyes still closed.

"Night Eddie." Buck mumbles and he falls asleep. The next morning they both woke up cuddling each other like usual and going about their day, pretending they didn't have the conversation they had the night before.

Eddie can't help but not think about though. He thinks about it on shift at the firehouse and thinks about it when he's home with Chris and Buck is pressed into his side next to him. Eddie has been thinking about his sexuality recently especially whilst he was in Texas. The first crack of a dam breaking in his mind was when Buck told him that he was the renter of his house and that he didn't have to worry about anything back in LA and that Buck is going to take care of it until Eddie and Chris came back.

There was another crack when he would call Buck to tell him what his parents did to undermine him and Buck would give him encouragement. Whenever Buck would tell him that he's got this and to stand up against his parents and ask what Christopher wants instead of listening to what his parents think he wants.

Eddie felt his heart flutter at how much faith Buck had in him but he pushed it down. He felt like he didn't deserve that feeling so he pushed it into the dam that was threatening to break.

Another crack happened when Buck told him the engagement ring was for him. Eddie couldn't help but want to put the ring on his own finger. It was a gorgeous ring in silver, it had some engraving on the inside that Eddie didn't get to see because he was too scared to take it out of the box. He feels like it was all a dream.

Eddie is home alone as he doesn't have a shift but Buck is out running some errands whilst Christopher is at school. Eddie stayed home as he was exhausted from their shift. He doesn't know why but he decides to look for the ring again. Eddie can just look at it and if he puts it on his finger just to see what it would look like on his hand for a while whilst he makes himself something to eat then that's no one's business.

Eddie remembers finding the ring box in Buck's sock drawer because he wanted to borrow some socks. Buck wouldn't be stupid enough to put it back in the same place…..right?

Eddie finds the ring box in Buck's sock drawer. Eddie sighs and shakes his head fondly at that. He takes the box out of the drawer and he notices a black notebook in the drawer too. Eddie picks it up too and closes the drawer and goes to sit on the edge of their shared bed.

He places the notebook on the bed beside him before he opens the ring box again and smiles at the ring. Eddie is reminded of how beautiful the ring is and it makes his heart flutter in his chest like a butterfly in a field of flowers. He gently and carefully takes it out of the box and finally reads the engraving on the inside of the ring. "You can have my back any day."

Eddie's eyes widen at that a little because those are the words he said exactly to Buck when they got the grenade out of that man's leg. All throughout the shift, Eddie felt like Buck didn't like him which he knows how was Buck having the fear of being replaced by Eddie. When Eddie made that promise to always have Buck's back, Eddie meant it.

Eddie slipped the ring onto his finger, its a bit tight on his finger but Eddie it's where it belongs. He can't help but look at the ring on his finger and instead of feeling that feeling of dread and panic like he did when he was married to Shannon, he feels a sense of calm and relaxation at the idea of being married again.

Being married to Buck. It would be just like it is now but Eddie gets to call him his husband. It would also mean Buck will never move out of their house. This is Buck's home after all.

Eddie sees the notebook in the corner of his eye and he picks it up. He knows he shouldn't but curiosity gets the better of him and he opens it. It seems a relatively new notebook because there's only one or two pages filled. Eddie can tell it's Buck's handwriting but it looks sloppier than usual.

Eddie, from the moment we met I knew you'd be an important person and when you introduced me to your son, Christopher, it felt like two missing pieces in my heart finally clicked into place. I know we've had our ups and downs but that's what makes our relationship work.

I know I've spent a lot of this time together doing stupid things that I regret but you always forgive me for those mistakes. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and Christopher. When you told me you put me in your will, making me Christopher's guardian, I felt like you gave me your heart.

Like when Bobby told chimney that having a kid is like having your heart walking around in the world? I can't believe you trust me with your heart in more ways than one. I love you with everything I have and I'm so lucky you said yes to me getting to marry you.

I promise to always love you and Christopher. I promise to spend the rest of my days taking care of you two. I promise to cook everyday for you two because we both know you're not the best cook.

Eddie is teary eyed as he chuckles softly to himself at reading that line. He should be offended but Buck has poured his heart out onto the page and it's making Eddie feel all warm in his chest. He continues to read.

I promise to tell you whatever is on my mind and I promise to keep you and Christopher safe- wait I already technically wrote that- I love you with all my heart and I can't wait to call you my husband.

That's when the dam finally broke. Eddie was shocked for so many reasons. The one being that Buck feels the same way he does. Another being he realised that he's in love with Buck and wants to be his husband. The last being that he's gay.

Eddie is gay. He's gay and in love with Buck. Eddie feels panic rise. He puts the notebook back in the drawer and tries to take the ring off his finger to put back in the box so he can forget this happened and keep pretending. He pulls the ring off of his finger but it's stuck. It's stuck. Oh god! Buck will be back any minute and if he sees Eddie's hand with the ring still on his finger Buck is going to freak out.

Eddie sends a text to Buck saying that he's going to be out for a bit if he comes back. He knows there's only one place he can go to talk about this.

That is how Eddie ends up on Hen and Karen's doorstep and he knocks on the door, keeping the hand with the ring on his finger in his jean pocket.

Hen answers the door and is confused to see him standing there. "Eddie? What are you doing here?"

"I'm gay." Eddie manages to get out. It's the only thing he manages to get out. "And I'm having a crisis-"

Hen's eyes widen and she brings him inside. "Come in." Karen is in the kitchen and she turns around.

"Eddie? What are you doing here?" She asks curiously then she sees Hen's expression and Eddie's panicked one. "What happened?"

Eddie sits on the still near the kitchen island and puts his face against the kitchen counter, feeling the coldness and it helping to cool down and he lifts his head to see both Hen and Karen staring at him concerned.

Eddie sighs and says "I'm gay."

They both nod and encourage him to keep going.

Eddie continues. “I’m gay and freaking out."

Karen places a hand on his. "I'm proud of you Eddie…..but I feel like there's more."

Eddie nods and says "I realised because I was going through Buck's sock drawer, to borrow some socks."

They both nod.

Eddie continues. "And I found a ring box and I thought maybe he brought it for Tommy." Eddie lets out a chuckle at Hen and Karen's face they both pull of disgust.

"And I went to the kitchen to go ask him about it and Buck being Buck, panicked. But…." Eddie rubs his face with the hand that doesn't have the ring on. "He told me he brought the ring for me whilst he was drunk and I was at Texas."

"Oh my god-" Hen's blurts out.

"And when we both were laying in bed together-"

"Wait a minute. You two are sharing a bed?!" Karen exclaims and Hen shushes her as she's hooked on the story.

"Yes but only until he finds an apartment but that's not the point!" Eddie groans. "He told me how he would do it in a hypothetical scenario. Propose to me that is and it was the most romantic thing I've ever heard."

Eddie pauses and places the ring box on the table and hen and Karen gasp. "He was out running errands and let me stay home. I couldn't stop thinking about the ring because god- it's such a gorgeous ring. Drunk Buck has such great taste." Hen and Karen laugh at that as Karen grabs the ring box and opens it and frowns.

"Where's the ring? It's not in the box." Karen tells him.

"Please tell me this isn't another chimney situation where he thinks he lost maddie's ring when in reality it was jee who stole it and Maddie found the ring and it got stuck on her finger." Hen groans.

Eddie blushes red and Karen realises. "Where's your other hand?"

Eddie lifts it up from under the table and shows them his hand with the ring on and they both gasp.

"You put the ring on?!" Hen exclaims at the same time as Karen yells "Buck proposed to you?! You guys were dating the whole time?!"

"No! He didn't! I put the ring on because I wanted to see what it would look like on my hand…. it has you can have my back any day engraved on the inside." Eddie tells them both and he tears up. "It was what I said to him on our first shift….."

Karen gasps softly and places a hand on her chest. "That's- that's actually really romantic. Who knew Buck was such a romantic?!"

Hen nods and then asks "I'm guessing you can't get it off and you can't tell Buck that you put the ring on because he would freak out?"

Eddie nods and rubs his face with both hands. "And I found a notebook in the drawer with the ring and I read it. He wrote wedding vows to me and I-" Eddie tears up and shakes his head to try and stop the tears from falling. "I-I think I'm in love with him and I need help-" he whimpers.

Karen goes over to hold him close and rub his back softly and Hen joins them.

"Oh Eddie. It's ok. We can help." Hen tells him.

"I feel so overwhelmed. H-he loves me so much and I didn't realise it. It's like- like the dam just broke and I'm feeling all these things I've spent years repressing. What do I do?" Eddie asks them.

Hen and Karen look at each other over his head. Hen tells him. "First, let's get this ring off your finger."

"Can we not destroy it? It's such a beautiful ring…." Eddie admits and blushes embarrassed. Hen and Karen laugh at that softly.

They manage to get the ring off without cutting it. It's amazing what a little bit of lube can do. They clean the ring off and Karen admires the ring. "it's a gorgeous ring."

Hen playfully rolls her eyes. "You've already said that sweetheart." As Karen puts the ring into the box for safe keeping.

Eddie checks his phone and sees Buck has messaged him telling him that he will see him at home when he comes back. "I don't think I can go back and face him."

"You're going to have to go back home eventually Eddie. You know what Buck is like. He'll worry." Hen tells him.

Eddie groans. "I know but what do I even say to him? It's not like I can say to him 'Hey Buck, I realised I’m gay and freaking out because I realised this fact after you admitted to me that you brought me a engagement ring even though we’re not dating and I found it the other day and then you admitted to me that it was for me and then I kept thinking about it and I put it on my finger and it got stuck and I also found the notebook where you write down wedding vows to me and I panicked but I got the ring off of my finger so we can just forget about all of this even though I really want to kiss you right now' he'd freak out!"

Hen says to him "I mean, you could just say all that to him minus the part about forgetting it all happened? You did tell us that you realised you're in love with him and Buck feels the same way about you from what you said, why not go for it?"

"Yeah Eddie. You and Buck deserve happiness and if that's together with the two of you and Chris being a family then go for it." Karen adds. Eddie thinks for a moment. He's been denying himself this for so long that he doesn't know if he can. Eddie wants to let himself and Buck be happy for a change. He sighs and nods softly mostly to himself.

"Ok but first I need to get this ring resized a little so it actually fits me." Eddie mumbles. Hen smiles at him and says "I'll come with you."

"Thanks Hen. I was also wondering if you can take Christopher for the night? I want to have this chat with Buck alone." Eddie asks and they both nod.

"Of course! Only if you tell us how it goes afterwards?" Karen asks.

Eddie nods and smiles "of course. If I actually get the courage to…"

"Eddie, we walk into fires to save people for a living, I know you've got this." Hen tells him and Eddie nods.

Eddie comes home after grabbing some takeout after messaging Buck that he's bringing back takeout and that Chris is going to be hanging out at the Wilson's tonight. When he enters, Buck is on the couch watching a nature documentary and Eddie feels his heart warm because Buck looks like he belongs in the Diaz home and Eddie knows he does.

"Hey. I'm back. Got us some Chinese food." Eddie lifts the bag in his hand. Eddie can feel the ring box burning into his thigh, as if it knows this conversation is going to be difficult.

Buck looks up and smiles. "My favourite! What's the occasion?" Eddie joins him on the couch and Eddie unpacks the bag onto the coffee table.

"I have to talk to you about something." Eddie tells him and when he turns to look at Buck, Buck has a worried expression on his face.

"Oh? I have to tell you something too." Buck admits whilst rubbing a hand on the back of his neck nervously.

"You do?" Eddie asks and he feels a wave of nervousness.

Buck nods before saying "I went to look at apartments today….." Eddie feels his heart drop into his stomach.

"Oh…." Eddie mumbles. Of course Buck was looking for a new place. Why wouldn't he? Eddie can't expect him to stay here with him. It's not like Eddie confessing his feelings and how he wants to be married to Buck will magically make Buck stay. But it is worth a shot.

"I've found a few options. I wanted to show them to you-" Buck keeps saying and Eddie decides to say fuck it and blurt it all out.

"I'm gay." Eddie blurts out. He turns to look back at Buck. Buck's eyes are wide.

"You- you are?" Buck whispers softly.

Eddie nods and says "I am. Realised today or allowed myself to say it out loud. You would not believe the day I had today…." He chuckles softly.

"How did you realise?" Buck asks with his eyebrows furrowed like he's lost in thought and Eddie really wants to lean over and press a kiss to his forehead.

"Well, it started with a ring." Eddie jokes and he pulls out the ring box from his pocket and Buck's eyes widen as he stares at the box in Eddie's hand. "I do have another thing to tell you." He watches Buck nod as Buck takes the ring box out of Eddie's hand.

"After you told me how you'd hypothetically propose to me, I couldn't stop thinking about it because-" Eddie gently takes the ring box and places it on the coffee table before gently taking Buck's hands in his. "Because the way you described it to me made me realised that I want this. I want that as our future. I finally want to allow myself to be happy and that means with you and Christopher. With us as a family." Eddie squeezes Buck's hands twice and adds "I told Christopher when he was younger that squeezing someone's hands twice means I love you."

Buck blushes red and his birthmark darkens and Eddie smiles at that. "You- you love me?" Buck whispers like he doesn't believe it.

"I do. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you. It's like I told chimney once, you don't know what will happen in this life time and I'm our line of work it's literally life or death and you should tell the people you love how you feel. So here I am, telling you, Evan Buckley, that I'm in love with you and I want to spend the rest of my days with you and Christopher by my side." Eddie slides off the couch and kneels in front of Buck on the sofa and he continues. "I don't have a ring for you but-"

Eddie pulls out a small box from his pocket and hands it to Buck. When Buck opens it he gasps softly and sees a necklace similar to the one Eddie wears.

"Is that-" Buck asks softly.

"A St Christopher's medal. I know it's not much but it's the best I can do until I can get you a ring-" Eddie is cut off by Buck kissing him. Eddie melts into the kiss and cups Buck's cheek softly as they kiss.

Eddie's eyes flutter closed and he finally feels free. They both soon pull away and Eddie realises that they're both crying and Buck has slid off the couch to join Eddie on the floor. Eddie opens his eyes as they rest their foreheads against each others.

"Eddie I'm so in love with you." Buck whispers against his lips and Eddie smiles widely as tears keep falling down his cheeks.

"I'm so in love with you too. And before you ask or freak out, I already talked to Chris about this and he's more than ok with it." Eddie tells him.

"He is?" Buck asks as if he doesn't believe him. Eddie presses a chaste kiss to his lips.

"Yes. And this also means that you're going to cancel those viewings of those places because you're staying here. With me. With us." Eddie tells him.

"I'd like that. I'd like that a lot." Buck replies and they kiss again and hold each other close. Eddie feels Buck move and grab the ring box from the coffee table and pulls away.

"I know it isn't what I described in the hypothetical scenario but-" Buck joked. "And I know we haven't even had a first date but I guess the both of us don't do anything normal." Eddie snorts at that.

"You're right." Eddie admits. "I mean, I added you to my will years ago without your knowledge and only told you when I-" Eddie stops himself because he knows Buck doesn't like thinking about that time.

Buck nods. "You did." Buck sighs and then opens the ring box. "Eddie Diaz, will you do me the honour of becoming my husband?"

Eddie tearfully nods and smiles softly as he whispers "yes. Just so you know, I got the ring resized because it got stuck on my finger earlier and I had to ask hen and Karen for help." Buck slides the finger onto his finger and he chuckles.

"Just like Maddie. She actually came to me that day and asked if I could help and I offered to use my ring cutter." Buck admits.

"You have a ring cutter? What for?" Eddie's eyebrows furrow and he looks to see Buck raise his eyebrows suggestively.

"Don't you worry about that. That's for another time." Buck flirtingly tells him and winks which makes Eddie blush red.

"You're ridiculous." Eddie rolls his eyes still bright red as Buck laughs.

"Yeah but you love me. Besides, you already agreed to marry me so no take backs." Buck jokes. Eddie playfully again rolls his eyes before kissing him and putting on Buck's St Christopher medal around Buck's neck.

"You're right. I do love you. Now, let's eat our food before it gets too cold." Eddie scolds softly. "Plus we should get up from the floor before you complain about your bad knee. Although if it bothers you I can always massage it for you." Eddie offers.

They get up and sit on the couch side by side and eat happily.

"You'd do that?" Buck asks.

"Of course. I'd do anything for my fiancé." Eddie smiles and kisses his cheek and Buck blushes.

"Fiancé. I really like that. I'm not going to get tired of that." Buck admits and Eddie hums in agreement. Buck presses play and the documentary he's watching starts to play again as they eat happily. Once they've done with their food, Eddie cuddles close and Buck wraps his arm around Eddie's waist, Eddie's head on Buck's chest as they watch the documentary together. It's the happiest Eddie has felt in the longest time.

They clean up once it's getting late before they go to do their routine before bed and they get into bed and Eddie can finally cuddle close to Buck before he falls asleep.

"Goodnight baby." Buck mumbles sleepily and Eddie feels his heart warm and flutter at that.

"Goodnight mi amor." Eddie mumbles back and he feels Buck press a sleepy kiss to his lips softly.

When they wake up, Eddie goes to find Buck who's doing his curl routine whilst only in a towel wrapped around his waist. Eddie is in the doorway and he asks "do you have a suit?"

Buck looks at him in the mirror and replies "I do. Why?"

"You got anything planned today?" Eddie asks with a smile.

"Where are you going with this, Eddie?" Buck asks softly.

"How about we go pick up Christopher and go down to the courthouse today?" Eddie questioned.

Buck's eyes widen as he turns around to look at Eddie properly. "Are you serious?!"

Eddie nods. "I'm so serious. Like I said last night, I want this, why wait?"

Buck comes over and kisses him deeply and Eddie places his hand on Buck's bare chest. Buck pulls away to say"Let's do it." Then they kiss again and Buck pulls away. "Wait. Shouldn't we tell the others?"

Eddie thinks for a moment because Buck is right. The others would want to watch them get married but Eddie wants to be selfish and have this be just between the three of them.

"Although we could have a celebration with them all after…." Buck mumbles against Eddie's lips softly. Eddie smiles softly.

"You know if we go pick up Chris together and hen and Karen see the ring on my finger they'll put two and two together." Eddie tells him.

"We better get ready then." Buck smirks "there will probably be a long line at the courthouse anyway. We can message them in the groupchat to meet us there or something?"

They both agree to do that and get dressed into a suit they have, Eddie in a dark blue one and Buck in a dark red one. Similar to the ones they wore when they went to go play poker together.

The two of them go and pick up Christopher from Hen and Karen's. Hen answers the door with a raised eyebrow at seeing Eddie and Buck in a suit. "Doing something special today fellas?"

Eddie and Buck both blush like they've been caught with their hands in a cookie jar.

"Maybe. Is Christopher ready?" Eddie asks. They hear Christopher's crutches coming towards him and Christopher gives them a sleepy smile.

"He might be a little tired as him and Denny stayed up late playing video games." Hen tells them. Karen is hovering behind her typing something on her phone. Christopher greets them both sleepily and Eddie kisses his forehead.

"Thanks for taking him last night." Eddie tells her as they watch Buck and Chris walk back to his truck.

"The conversation went well I assume?" Karen smiles. Eddie nods and smiles as they look at Buck and Chris.

"It went better than I ever hoped." Eddie admits. "We're going to go home, get Chris dressed and go grab breakfast."

"So you're just dressing up in suits for fun then?" Hen teases.

"No actually. I uh, asked Buck if he wanted to go down to the courthouse. We were going to message the groupchat but I'm guessing you might've told the others already?" He looks to Karen and Karen nods.

"I'm just so happy for you two and I knew you two were going to probably message the groupchat-"

Karen tells him but is cut off by Buck saying over the phone "no Maddie I was going to tell you! It just kind of happened!"

"I better go. See you guys later?" Eddie asks.

They both nod and say their goodbyes and go get ready and Eddie goes to where Buck is standing on the phone to Maddie.

"I know I'm your brother and I should've told you but I didn't expect it to happen! I got to go. I'll talk to you when I see you." Buck tells her and they say their goodbyes before hanging up. Buck turns to Eddie and says "Maddie isn't very happy but she's also happy for us. I'm definitely going to get scolded later."

Eddie chuckles softly and nods. "I get that." They drive home and tell Christopher the news on the way home and he seems happy for them two and is agrees excitedly when Eddie asks him to be his best man.

Christopher gets changed into a suit and they go find a breakfast place to go eat at whilst Eddie and Buck manage to get an appointment for later in the afternoon and the message groupchat the time.

"It means we have enough time to go pick out a ring for you, baby." Eddie tells him and kisses Buck softly.

"Gross! Dad!" Christopher says and both Buck and Eddie laugh at that. After they've eaten and paid, they go look at rings and Buck picks a silver band similar to Eddie's and Eddie asks it the he engraved on the inside "you can have mine" on the inside of it and Buck almost cries at that.

"Sap." Eddie teases him and kisses his birthmark softly. Once they have Buck's ring and Eddie pays for it, they go to the courthouse to find everyone of their friends and family waiting for them outside. They all hug each other and greet each other. Everyone is dressed in fancy clothes and they go inside the courthouse.

Their names are soon called and they go inside and the ceremony begins. Bobby walking Buck down the isle and whispering "I'm proud of you kid." Which sets Buck off and he gets teary eyed which in turn makes Eddie teary eyed as they hold hands looking in each others eyes surrounded by their friends and family.

It's soon time for their vows and Buck goes first and grabs the folded piece of paper from his pocket and opens it shakingly and he starts to read.

"Eddie, we've known each other for almost 8 years now and over those years I've realised that I can finally have the things I wanted as a kid. A family that loves me. Standing here, infront of all of our loved ones today, I want to promise you my devotion to you. I promise to love and cherish you and to love and cherish the most important person in your life, Christopher." Buck turns to Christopher and tells him. "Christopher, I promise to you that I will love you like a son and I will protect you just like your dad does. I also promise to cook you pancakes whenever you want them." He chuckles tearfully and everyone laughs too with tears in their eyes.

Christopher moves to hug Buck and he mumbles "I love you too Buck." Eddie joins the hug and the three of them have a family hug. They break apart and Christopher stays by Eddie's side and Eddie keeps his arm around Christopher as Buck continues.

"You two are the missing pieces of my heart and I'm so lucky to have you two in my life. I love you both so much with all my heart." Buck finishes his vows and everyone is crying. "Your turn, love." Buck adds.

Eddie wipes his tears and nods and says "I wish I had time to prepare something like you did." Everyone chuckles at that and Eddie continues. "Evan, I've spent my whole life doing what I thought other people have wanted me to do but for the first time in a while I'm doing what I want for a change. Marrying you here today infront of everyone of our loved ones, I promise to always love and cherish you. You and Christopher are pieces of my heart that complete me. I love you both and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with us as a family."

Buck kisses Eddie with tears in his eyes. They pull away and they exchange rings and say their "I dos" and soon they hear the words "by the power vested in me in the state of California, I now pronounce you two married."

Everyone cheers and claps for them and Buck and Eddie finally properly kiss and they pour all their love into the kiss before pulling apart.

"I love you Mr Buckley-Diaz" Eddie whispers.

"I love you too Mr Buckley-Diaz" Buck whispers.

They all go to Bobby and Athena's place to have a BBQ with everyone.

Maddie and Buck have a sibling dance whilst Eddie and Christopher dance together.

"I'm so proud of you Buck." Maddie tells him. Buck smiles tearfully at that.

"Thank you Mads. This is the happiest day of my life." Buck tells her.

"Mind if I cut in?" Eddie asks and Maddie smiles widely.

"Of course." She hugs Eddie and whispers "I'm so happy for you two." She moves to go dance with Christopher.

Eddie and Buck start to slow dance together and they rest their foreheads together. They're quiet before Eddie whispers "you're a good dancer."

Buck chuckles and whispers "well, me and Maddie would slow dance together as kids and when we she was going to get married we practiced together."

"Still, you're a great dancer. We could do well in a ballroom competition." Eddie admits. "I can teach you some moves."

"Oh? You didn't tell me you know ballroom dancing?" Buck whispers.

"Well there's a lot you don't know about me" Eddie teases him softly.

Buck smirks at that. "Well guess we'll have to get to know each other as husbands now." Buck kisses him softly.

Eddie kisses back and melts into the kiss. Christopher comes over and joins the two of them when they pull away from their kiss. They're quiet before three of them slow dance together.

"I love you dad. I love you Buck." Christopher says.

"We love you too Christopher." Buck smiles down at him. Eddie kisses Christopher's head of curls.

"And we will always love you mijo." Eddie adds.

The three of them dance together happily. They're finally a family.
