Work Text:

Cough, cough!

Tenna's head jerked up from the scripts he was reading, his antennas sticking straight into the air as he turned to you sitting beside him. The top of his casing furrowed in concern. "Darling, are you feeling alright?"

You scoffed, waving a hand absentmindedly before turning your attention back to your writing. "I'm fine. It's just a sore throat, I can tough it out."

The next day, you found yourself slumped over your desk in a foggy ill-stricken haze and the realization that you, in fact, were not fine. "Spare me the lecture," you mumbled deliriously as Tenna stood over you with his hands on his hips and a frown on his screen. He shook his head with a heavy sigh, and you offered no resistance as he picked you up over his shoulder and carried you over to the green room couch.

"I told you to stay home and rest today," Tenna chastised you lightly. You groaned and muttered a half-audible apology. What few thoughts you had in your head ebbed past like sludge from a drainage pipe. Setting you down on the cushions, Tenna grabbed a few pillow and blankets from a nearby storage closet and busied himself with undoing your black vest and loosening your yellow tie. You gave a small hum of gratitude as he fluffled the pillows and tucked you in. "There we are! Now, just rest here and I'll be back to check on you in a JIFFY!!" He stood up and walked towards the exit.

Sensing his absence, you tried to reach for him and let out a plaintive whine. Tenna made a beeline back to your side.

"Please..." You tossed and turned, words slurring together. "Don't go...I'm sorry. I'm trying my best, I swear." Your vision swam, the fog thickening in your head as your eyes tried to focus on Tenna. But his image was blurred and muddied, as if he were melding with someone else entirely. You tried to force yourself to sit up, coughing violently as you do. "I...I'll try harder. I can make time. It's not a bother at all, don't worry about it. Just...please don't leave me again..."

"WHOA hey..." Hearing your delirious voice, Tenna's chest ached more than he though possible. Again? Just what exactly did you go through before you wound up at his studio? Supporting your back, Tenna guided you back to lying down. He took hold of your hand, caressing it with a gloved hand. "My busy bee, you've been doing so much around here already. You're ENOUGH, you don't have to overwork yourself like this for my sake or anyone else's." He pressed a staticky kiss to your hand, holding it up against his screen with a fond smile. "I won't leave you, I promise."

Giving Tenna's hand a feeble squeeze, your hyperventilating breaths gradually started to even out. You felt yourself getting gently scooped up into his arms, blankets and all. "Come on, dear," Tenna murmured as he held you close. The mechanical humming inside his chest lulled your drowsy mind, and your eyes grew heavier and heavier. "Let's go home."

You woke up in Tenna's bed, feeling the familiar soft cotton sheets underneath you. Behind you, Tenna had pressed himself against your back, the warmth of his static filled screen right against the back of your head. You could feel the stead rise and fall of his slow breathing, the high frequency hum that filled the air with his presence. The comforting weight of Tenna's arm wrapped around your waist grounded your thoughts. He never left. He would never leave you. Sighing contently, you turned around to nestle against his chest, stifling a small lingering cough. Tenna shifted, his arms closing in and enveloping you in a warm hug. He yawned, his screen flickering for a moment before his nose and mouth popped up on his screen with the brightest smile. "Good morning, busy bee." He kissed the top of your head. "How are you feeling today?"
