Work Text:
It seems that Asgore didn’t have any poinsettias, so tulips would have to do. Kris had watched how on occasion his dad had tried to win his mother over with luscious bouquets of flora. Despite the constant rejection, they also saw the dedication in their dad’s actions. Hopefully he wouldn’t mind if Kris plucked a couple.
Waiting until everyone had left, Kris had managed to get back into the school with the tulips in hand, listening out for any footsteps or distant voices. God forbid they’d get caught by someone like Berdly. As the door slowly unlocked and the lights flickered on, Kris half expected to see Ms. Alphys was standing there, but there was no one. Perfect.
Now, it was something that Kris wouldn’t normally do, since they were usually the one playing pranks on Noelle, but there was something so caring about it. Noelle found comfort in the unknown and the terror, and in a way she’d found comfort in Kris. What better way to “prank” her than to be nice? Kris had set the tulips on her desk, wrapped in some red ribbon. Their face was turning the same color just looking at it.
It was time to go home, and hopefully no one would notice the hidden smile on their face tomorrow.

Walking in the next day, Kris tried not to freak out when they saw Noelle and Berdly surrounding her desk. “This is very strange indeed, Noelle…” Berdly’s nasally voice cut through the peaceful silence. Trying to act nonchalant as they walked behind their own desk, Kris noticed how flushed Noelle looked upon seeing the tulips. Berdly however, was puzzled before smirking and shaking his head.
“It seems you have a… heh, secret admirer.” The bluebird remarked, making Noelle’s blush double. “Admirer? Oh my gosh..” she replied, looking back to them. Suddenly, Ms. Alphys had also appeared, gaining context from Noelle’s reply. But she didn’t say anything, only smiled. Soon, everyone was there. They all made their comments on the tulips, Kris included, as to not immediately out themselves.
But the day went on as normal. Exactly how Kris wanted things to go. As much as it pained them to not immediately burst into laughter and tell Noelle that it was them that placed them there, it felt too cruel for their taste. Maybe there was a part inside them that wanted to tell Noelle that, deep down, they cared. Genuinely.
The sun had begun to go down slightly as everyone left. “Kris, can you stay for a moment?” Ms. Alphys caught them off guard as they flinched. The teacher didn’t seem concerned though. More happy than anything. “I see that you’ve been taking after your dad.” She said simply, causing Kris to freak out. Trying to explain themselves, Alphys spoke again.
“If you want, you can give Noelle chocolates next time. Assuming that you won’t eat them first.” It got Kris to shut up, before they abruptly left.
Nobody noticed, except for Ms. Alphys.
…
But she was right. How the hell would they manage to get chocolates for Noelle without eating them?
