Chapter Text
The Strongest Curse.
by 42RutTale310
"We're going directly to it!"
Yuji Yealed.
The trio was dealing with another troublesome curse, and this one was just to frantically darting and skidding everywhere. The abandoned factory reeked of rust and mold. Shadows clung to the corners, and the faint drip of water echoed like a ticking clock.
Yuji darted forward, fists clenched, as the curse slithered from the rafters. Its body writhed like a centipede but with too many arms—each ending in jagged claws.
“Don’t let it touch you!”
Megumi shouted, already summoning his shikigami. Two divine dogs tore across the floor, snapping at the curse’s limbs.
Nobara’s hammer rang out as she drove nails into the ground, cursing under her breath.
“This thing won’t hold still!”
She flung a nail forward, a strand of her technique pulling it straight into the curse’s twitching arm. The creature shrieked, its body splitting into shadowy clones that scattered across the walls and ceiling.
“Tch—multiple targets now”
Megumi muttered, sweat dotting his forehead. His shadows rippled, another shikigami bursting forth to defend his flank. Yuji leapt, fist crashing through one of the clones—only for it to dissolve like smoke. The real curse whipped around behind him.
“Yuji!”
Nobara’s voice cracked as she hurled another nail. It only grazed the monster, but the distraction bought Yuji a split second to roll away from the claws. The curse reared back, its true body shimmering with thick, black fluid. It slammed into the concrete floor, shaking the walls. Cracks spread across the ceiling as dust rained down.
Megumi’s eyes narrowed.
“It’s trying to bring the whole place down on us.”
Before they could regroup, the curse lashed out with a dozen arms at once. The dogs vanished in a puff of shadows. Nobara stumbled, barely catching herself. Yuji braced, but the force sent him flying into a support pillar with a painful thud.
The building groaned. Concrete split. A gaping hole tore open behind them, revealing a drop into pure darkness. The curse slithered closer, blocking the only exit.
Yuji wiped the blood from his lip, forcing himself to stand. Megumi positioned himself between the others and the monster, breathing hard. Nobara gripped her hammer tight, even as her arm shook.
The ground beneath them cracked again. The three of them stood together, backs to the endless pit, the curse advancing step by step—nowhere left to run.
“Any ideas?”
Nobara shouted, eyes scanning the shifting shadows of the curse. Her hammer glinted in her hand, nails poised to fly.
Yuji grinned, bracing himself.
“I’ve got an idea!”
He grabbed Nobara and Megumi firmly by the waist, feeling their weight shift as he crouched.
“Hold on tight!”
With a burst of speed, he propelled the 3 of them into the air, twisting mid-jump to avoid a jagged claw that slammed into the floor where they had just stood.
They landed in a heap, rolling to absorb the impact. The curse shrieked, splitting into multiple shadowy forms. Another swipe of claws narrowly missed Yuji’s shoulder, while Nobara’s hammer skidded across the concrete, barely avoiding her legs.
“Careful!”
Megumi barked, his shikigami snapping at one of the advancing clones.
A voice echoed in Yuji’s mind—sharp, taunting, unmistakable.
“Brat. That one isn’t your only problem.”
Sukuna’s presence was chilling, his words like knives.
“What… what do you mean, ‘that one?’” Yuji whispered to himself between heaves, looking confused at his surroundings.
"Don’t get cocky, brat, or you’ll be the first to die.”
Yuji clenched his fists, adrenaline surging. The warning cut through the chaos, but it didn’t stop him from darting forward, hammering his attacks in rhythm with Nobara’s nails.
The curse shrieked again, its shadows stretching toward them like liquid night. They rolled and twisted, ducking under claws and leaping over snapping limbs. Every movement was a hair’s breadth from disaster, their breaths ragged as they barely escaped each strike. But with every dodge, the floor beneath them groaned. Cracks snaked across the concrete. Dust fell like rain.
Sukuna’s voice cut through the chaos again, sharper this time.
“Don’t let it corner you, idiot.”
Yuji glanced back. The curse was closing in, shadows writhing, a controlling presence pulsing through. And it felt like they were running out of room.
The next strike came faster than they could react, and Yuji barely blocked it. They skidded to a stop, backs to a concrete wall.
The warehouse trembled. The curse advanced. Sukuna’s laughter echoed, mocking and warning all at once.
There was nowhere left to run.
Yuji’s chest heaved as he stood back-to-back with the wall, the gaping darkness behind them threatening to swallow everything. He gritted his teeth.
“What NOW!!"
A ripple of irritation—or was it amusement?—coursed through Yuji, tightening in his chest as he felt Sukuna’s quiet, teasing amusement. The curse paused, as if sensing the tension in the air, its shadowed form condensing and twisting. Then, with a surge of energy, a searing beam of darkness began to coalesce at its core—a death ray of pure malevolence aimed straight at them.
“Yuji, Nobara!!”
Megumi screamed from afar and tried to send some of his shikigami, but he was surrounded by other clones of the curse, unable to reach them. Sukuna’s warning cut through his mind, sharp as a blade:
“That thing will annihilate you. Move—or die.”
Megumi’s fingers twitched, trembling as they formed a familiar hand sign.
“I can counter it—but I need time!”
He shouted, eyes blazing with focus, locked on the searing beam. Yuji and Nobara flinched, their stomachs tightening as they watched his hands shake, fear etched across their faces at the sight of him struggling to maintain control.
“It won’t work!”
“You can’t block that! You need to flee—both of you—before it’s too late!”Sukuna’s voice was urgent, almost panicked now.
Yuji’s jaw tightened. His eyes burned with stubborn defiance.
“I don’t care!” he snapped, voice rough. “Shut it, old man!”
The air vibrated with the curse’s growing power. Dust and debris swirled violently, the beam pulsating like a heartbeat of destruction. Nobara’s hammer rattled in her grip, Megumi’s shikigami strained against the pressure, and Yuji’s chest heaved as adrenaline and determination surged through him.
Time seemed to slow. Every shadow, every crack in the floor, every flicker of movement was magnified. The beam of darkness flared, hungry and merciless.
Yuji’s eyes narrowed. “We’re not backing down.”
And then—
Time seemed to stretch, each second dragging as the curse’s death-ray coalesced into a searing column of darkness. The warehouse shook, dust and debris swirling violently. Then, for a heartbeat, everything froze.
A strange silence fell—just for a second—broken only by the echo of Sukuna’s voice, sharp and chilling in Yuji’s mind.
“Enchain.”
Megumi’s eyes widened in terror.
“Nobara! Yuji!”
He lunged, but the beam had already fired. Shadows and raw energy lanced toward them like liquid night, and for a moment he thought he saw them obliterated.
Then—something miraculous. A protective barrier shimmered into existence around the pair, absorbing the blast. The darkness slammed against it, crackling and shivering, but couldn’t break through. Megumi’s breath caught in relief, though fear still clutched at him.
Nobara’s eyes snapped open. Her fingers tightened instinctively around a waist—but as she blinked against the shock, horror froze her.
It wasn’t Yuji she was holding.
A cold, familiar voice echoed from inside the body she gripped.
“Don’t let go, or you die.” Sukuna.
Possessing Yuji. Every muscle tensed under the pressure of his words.
Her heart hammered. She wanted to scream, to push him away—but the barrier held, the beam threatened, and Sukuna’s warning was as sharp as a blade through her mind. She had no choice. Her fingers dug in deeper, holding on as if her life depended on it—because it did.
The beam’s roar filled the warehouse again, the energy hammering against the shimmering barrier. Outside, Megumi’s shadows surged, ready to shield them if they fell—but inside, Nobara and Sukuna were locked in a deadly, invisible struggle.
Every second stretched to infinity. The crescendo of chaos, fear, and desperation hit like a tidal wave, but with a single fluid motion, Sukuna struck. The shadows of the curse shredded like paper, collapsing under a brutal force that left nothing standing.
Nobara stumbled back, gripping her hammer tightly, her chest heaving. Megumi rushed to her side, his shikigami still alert, eyes scanning for any sign of another attack.
“Are you okay?” he asked, though his voice carried the weight of dread—they both knew the calm never lasted.
Then Sukuna’s voice, cold and deliberate, filled the air. “There’s another one. Watch closely.”
From the corner of the warehouse, a second curse materialized—smaller, tiny even, more twisted, and radiating malevolent intelligence. Nobara and Megumi froze, horror gripping them.
“This little one? It was manipulating it the whole time,” Sukuna explained. With a casual, almost bored gesture, the second curse was obliterated. Shadows dissolved, shrieking in protest as if the very air rejected its existence.
Nobara’s jaw dropped. Megumi’s fists clenched. Neither had expected such ruthless efficiency.
Before they could process, Sukuna shifted—again—this time swapping back leaving Yuji gasping on the floor. Blood trickled from his mouth as he vomited violently, his body wracked with pain and Sukuna’s lingering presence.
Megumi and Nobara staggered back in shock.
“Yuji!”
They screamed, their hands reaching for him, but the horror in his eyes made them hesitate. Megumi’s shadow flickered nervously, unsure whether to intervene.
The room fell into tense silence.
Yuji’s weakened body trembled on the floor, a grotesque reminder of just how dangerous the Swap truly was. Or was it something else? Because it didn't take long for Nobara’s body to betray her almost immediately—her hands trembling, knees buckling, and before she could catch herself, she was vomiting.
The battle might have ended—but the real nightmare was only beginning.
