Fond Memories

Summary:

Frisk has a nice walk home with their closest friend from the underground and reflects on a few things.

Notes:

Frisk x Monster Kid content in the year 2025? More likely than you think! That one scene in the anniversary stream of them nuzzling noses awoke a dormant ship in my heart. So I decided I’d make a little fic about them with a sprinkling of Frisk’s general life after Undertale. Hope you enjoy it!

Work Text:

The final bell had rung. The first day of high school was officially over. A familiar human with eyes that always looked like they were closed packed up their things and walked out of class. This human is none other than Frisk, local teenager and ambassador of the entire monster race.

It had been quite a few years since Frisk had freed the underground and quite a lot had happened since then. Sans had gotten a job at Grillby’s bar, Papyrus had gotten a lot better at cooking, Undyne and Alphys got married (Papyrus was the flower skeleton) and became teachers at Toriel’s school, Asgore had opened a flower shop, and so much more.

Yet despite all of the amazing things that had happened with their large found family, Frisk was still the same person they had always been. They were still kind, weird, flirty, and a massive political leader.

That last one was certainly the most interesting. While Asgore had to accompany them to political meetings due to him still technically being king of the monster (and them not being an adult), Frisk had gotten a lot of progress made for monsters in the years after they returned the surface. Of course, prejudice would always be a thing, but Frisk had gotten them all of the rights that they deserved.

This also came with them always being a big deal in school. So many kids had always tried to be their friends over the years to varying degrees of success. Some had genuinely wanted to be their friends and Frisk usually returned the feeling and formed great bonds. However, there were many who simply wanted to be their friend for bragging rights.

They expected this to happen in high school as well, but the results were ridiculous for their first day! They could barely go anywhere without a dozen or so people following them. They had to go to the bathroom in order to get any alone time. This also led to something no one had tried before. Multiple people tried flirting with them.

Frisk gagged as they thought of all the horrible pickup lines that they had heard. Being a master flirter themselves, they knew what good flirting was like and when it was genuine. Not a single line they had been told that day was anything more than a shallow attempt to brag about having the ambassador of monster kind wrapped around their finger.

Frisk sighed thinking about it. They had made many friends since they left the underground. In fact, they had formed a close bond with a trio of a purple lizard monster, a deer monster, and a blue bird monster. And yet, it still felt like there were very few people their age who saw them for who they are.

“Yo Frisk!”

What perfect timing. That was the voice of one of the people they were thinking of. Frisk looked to their right to see their armless friend running towards them. It was none other than the monster formerly known as Monster Kid, now going by Monster Teen. Though Frisk called them “MK” as a nickname.

MK ran over to their best friend only to trip at the last moment. Luckily, Frisk caught them and wrapped them in their arms just in time.

“Haha thanks Frisk. I owe you one.”

“You owe me several.” Frisk laughed.

“Your house is pretty close to mine. Want to walk home together?” MK asked with a smile on their face.

Frisk responded with a nod and they walked out of the building together.

As they walked down the street, Frisk stared at their friend. MK had changed a lot compared to themself. Their spines had grown out to form a sort of mohawk. They had also ditched the striped shirt a long time ago and usually wore a hoodie. Sometimes it was sleeveless, sometimes it was not. Additionally, they wore a necklace with a bright diamond-like symbol on it. Frisk had always considered asking how they knew about a symbol that so closely resembled a save point, but they never got around to it.

Frisk themself on the other hand had changed very little over the years in terms of their fashion sense. They still wore blue shirts with a singular purple stripe in the middle. It was their look and they refused to change it. Even their haircut wasn’t that different. All that changed was that their hair got longer and their bangs got a bit closer to covering their eyes.

However the thing that caught Frisk’s attention the most was their friend’s tail.

“Did your tail get another growth spurt?” Frisk asked.

“It sure did! Now it’s long enough for me to use it like an arm!” MK said with joy as they waved their tail back and forth.

“Don’t you already use your magic for that though?”

Frisk wasn’t wrong. Not that long after they left the underground, MK had finally been able to use their own kind of magic. They had unlocked a type of telekinetic magic that made up for their lack of arms.

“Yeah but there are tons of things you can do with arms but not with magic.”

“Like what?”

“It makes it easier to use a computer, it makes it easier to use my phone, and it also…” MK trailed off as their tail slithered towards Frisk and wrapped itself around their hand. “…lets me do this.”

Frisk’s eyes frantically swapped between looking at their friend and looking at their hand. They were shocked to say the least.

“Back when we were younger, you always tried to hold my hand. But uh I didn’t have any haha. I always wanted to hold your hand though, so I’m doing it now.”

The memories rushed back to Frisk. It’s true that there were many times when they were younger that they tried to hold MK’s hand only to remember that was impossible. In fact, one of those times was during the first adventure they had with them in waterfall, where they walked together under a single umbrella. The memory was nostalgic to say the least. It also reminded Frisk of another fond memory.

“Remember when we did that nose nuzzling contest?”

“Yo, how could I forget about that? I was so bummed I couldn’t do it with Papyrus or Undyne. Looking back though, I’m glad I won with you. We made a great team.”

“You were the real winner. You were even better at it than Toriel.”

Their conversation trailed off before they finally reached Frisk’s house. They were still holding hands when they got there.

“Well we finally made it. Maybe we can do this again tomorrow?” MK asked as they let go of Frisk’s hand.

“I’d like that.” Frisk responded with a smile.

“Sweet! Later dude!”

MK turned around to walk away before suddenly stopping.

“Oh yeah! There’s one more thing I can do with a longer tail.”

They turned back towards Frisk and wrapped their tail around them and nuzzled into their neck. They were hugging them. Frisk simply stood there shocked.

“I can finally give you hugs! Isn’t that sick?” MK asked with a large smile on their face. They began to run down the street as they yelled that they would see Frisk the next day.

Frisk thought about earlier that day when multiple students had tried to flirt with them. They had all been shallow and didn’t know anything about who Frisk truly was. And then here came their best friend, giving them genuine compliments and holding hands with them while saying that they’ve wanted to for years.

Frisk put their hand up to their cheek and felt it warm up. They smiled as they saw their friend run off. They made a mental note to return the favor the next time they hugged.
