Chapter Text

Any moment now…Momo would return to him.

She would return and she would be back to her normal size.

He still remembered her so that was a plus.

But he would panic from time to time…what if he forgot her? He could only imagine how hurt she would be and that hurt him. Hurt because she wanted to hear his confession and he just forgot her, hurt because everyone would forget she existed.

She would be alone.

And he hated the thought of seeing that.

So when the time came and they announced that they were coming back Okarun felt his chest swell.

Only to find out that it was Zuma and the others. That was okay I guess? They were back to normal which was good news.

He walks over towards the small group to greet them to which they greeted him back.

When he asked them about the missing members of the group Zuma replied.

“The old lady ended up at the hospital with serious wounds. The red head fellow asshole is with her while the two girls are resting somewhere. Granny said that she’s stuck at the hospital for a few more days while the rest should be coming home in the next hour or so.”

So Okarun would have to wait the next hour to confess. He can do that right?

He was just gonna practice how he was going to confess without freaking out or being weird. He can do that…right?

Of course he struggled the whole time since he was just a bundle of nerves.

It took a little more than an hour for the rest minus Seiko.

Everyone had heard that Momo was back to normal and hurried over to see it for themselves. Even Zuma stayed because he wanted to at least see Momo since the last time he saw her in her true size was in the cursed trunk.

Okarun hid from the rest as it was starting to get too chaotic with so many people at the Ayase residence.

So he hid in the temple with Manjiro..

Eventually gave up on the confession and started to meditate to help clear his head since he had so many thoughts and emotions going through his head while Manjiro made sure he was properly meditating.

He needed to calm down so we wouldn’t mess this up.

He wanted this to feel special between the two of them.

Eventually he heard the commotion outside and got up once he heard her voice.

She was finally here!

Okarun’s heart leaped as he walked out of the temple. His eyes lit up when he saw Momo standing in front of the group who were all looking…off while Momo talked to them looking confused by some of them.

Kinta scooted over and it looked like he was trying to flirt till Momo said hissed at him that quickly made him crash to the floor as Aira would say something snarky to Kinta.

Momo looked uneasy from all these eyes on her and everyone trying to talk to her, so she just decided to leave and start heading towards the house. All while Vamola and Jiji tried to calm everyone down, that was until Zuma shouted at everyone to be quiet and they all listened.

“I had it under control…” Jiji hissed.

“Sure you did.” Zuma grinned.

While Momo was heading towards the house Okarun had followed her. “Miss Ayase!”

She turned around as she watched Okarun run up to her.

She gave him a weird look as he approached. “Hey…?” She greeted.

“Welcome back!”

“Thanks…?”

“It’s so good to see your back to normal!” Okarun was beaming.

Momo kept on looking at him with a questionable expression. “Uh…yeah.”

“I’ve finally been waiting for this moment…to tell you…” He started to feel real nervous as he reached over and grabbed her hand which she gave him a weird look but he didn’t notice since he was looking down at their hands before closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.

“Miss Ayase…” he called out. “I love you! And I never want to let you go.”

It was quiet for a while and Momo had this look of disgusted on her face.

“Get lost perv.” She hissed as she removed her hand from him.

Suddenly everything went silent, his ears were ringing as he suddenly couldn’t move but his body started to shiver.

“W-Wha…?”

“I don’t know who you are dude, if my grandma hired you as a cleaner or something or a weird new student of hers. But I’m not into you and I’m certainly not into guys like you.” She said as she turned around and started to head in the house.

“B-But!” His feet felt heavy as he dragged himself behind her. “You told me that you wanted me to confess when you were back to normal…” he sniffled.

“Why the hell would I say that? I’m not that desperate geez.” She sounded so annoyed at him.

The look she was giving him was killing him the more he stared at her with those big pleasing eyes of his.

There was no love in those eyes of hers.

“M-Miss Ayase…” he croaked.

“Get the hell out of my house dude!” She shouted as he jumped and took a couple steps back till he was outside the front door. “I DON’T FUCKING KNOW YOU! DAMN PERV!”

“B-But after everything…everything we’ve been through. Fighting aliens and Yokai’s…”

“Alien’s don’t exist dude. And I wouldn't be caught dead hanging out with someone like you!” She hissed. “Now go away and leave me the hell alone before I beat the crap out of ya.” She threatened as she slammed the door in his face.

Okarun stood there in horror, his eyes wide as saucers, mouth hung open slightly like as if he was going to say something else but couldn’t as his throat felt tight. Tears started stinging in his eyes. His chest felt tight as he tried to get some air in his lungs as it felt like someone was just laying right on his chest crushing his ribs, lungs, and more importantly his heart.

He eventually he would hear footsteps behind him and then felt a hand rest on his shoulder as Jiji was right behind him. “I’m sorry Okarun. But…yeah…we have a problem…and Seiko isn’t sure it can be fixed. Momo is back to normal but…”

He tuned Jiji out as he didn’t want to hear it anymore. He didn’t want to hear anything anymore.

This was terrible…

Instead of them losing their memory of her…

She was the one who lost her memory…

Okarun felt a heavy feeling in his heart as he brought a hand up right over it and grasped his shirt.

“Why…why did this have to happen…?” He muttered hopelessly.

Maybe…we’re not meant to be… He thought.

Of course not…
