Chapter Text
Rumi was off. Odd.
Then again she's always weird, this was normal right?
Not like they could tell; both Mira and Zoey shared questioning glances to each other when Rumi would.. well, how do you say this. Acts like a cat?
Ever since she's out of the closet - yeah they caught her watching girls kissing one time on the laptop, shut it closed with brazen red cheeks and said it was a random video that got recommended (totally a lie, by the way) - about being a demon, she's just.. funky. A silly little guy, you know?
There was a time, or well times, when it happens.
Mira sat on the couch, slightly sprawled but definitely very comfortable while scrolling countless of videos on TikTok. Not with her main, but with her second account where she could like and comment without being a popstar. Same goes for Zoey, not really for Rumi though. She's allergic to switching accounts - never got one, never needed one.
Then, without looking up from her phone, she hears the soft padding of footsteps entering the living room. She figured it would be Rumi, because no way in hell Zoey would be awake at this hour on a Saturday. And she was right, because when she drifted her eyes up away from her phone, she sees Rumi looking around. As if she was lost? "Morning." Mira softly says - it's only nine in the morning, looking back at her phone, scrolling for a newer video to etch in her head. Rumi perked up, staring longingly at Mira without saying anything.
She figured she's just tired, happens sometimes so she didn't mind the lack of greeting. Then, the footsteps continued and came closer. Feeling the couch sink with unexpected weight, a heavy body suddenly in top of her and having someone's face rest on the crook of her neck. It's like she didn't blink when it all happened.
Because, really, what the fuck.
Rumi was on top of her, relaxed and basically cuddling her on the couch. The video played in repeat, not even focusing on her phone anymore. Her attention shifted to the warmth she was receiving.
"Comfy?" Mira asks, 'cause what else was she supposed to do with the literal team leader straddling her like a weighted blanket? Shoo her off?? Yeah no, as much as that was rude, it was actually nice - she won't admit it though.
No response, she mentally shrugged it off. Maybe she's sleepy. Then, surprisingly Zoey comes by the next five minutes — stiffling a yawn and saying a tired morning. She did raise a brow at the cuddle session that she sadly wasn't invited, Mira shrugged without a clue about it. The Maknae blinkend, opened the fridge and checked for snacks.
Then they both paused, a loud rumbling noise of comfort audible. Zoey turned animatedly - really fucking scary, Mira looked down and wow. Rumi was fucking purring.
So yeah, that was one story. On her odd like behavior. She felt the vibrations that day. But neither had ever thought to bring it up.
Until, there was this other time that..
So, this time, Zoey was scrolling through her laptop. Watching turtle compilation videos. It's vacation, she needed the break. They all did.
Her door was open, she rarely closes it. Some shuffling outside, looking up and she notices a peeking Tom.
Or, well, a peeking Rumi.
She looked so curious at whatever Zoey was doing, she couldn't help herself but giggle - again, she noticed Rumi cowered.
"Wanna watch some turtle videos with me?" She asks, Rumi widened her eyes and hesitated, then, she entered the room and walked cautiously to the bed. As if she was being careful with her steps. Quieter than ever.
Zoey shifted slightly, giving Rumi some space despite the bed being able to fit at least four adults. Maybe five. But anyways.
Rumi hesitated again, unsure until she softly crawled on the bed with soften balled fists. Zoey didn't seem to care, maybe she didn't think it wad unusual to see her act so carefully. Never noticing the little things like these special behaviors. Nah.
So, team leader on her bed, close to her side and laptop on her stomach of turtles eating salad - Rumi didn't look at the screen once. No, she was staring hard at Zoey who pretended not to notice.
Especially not when she learned in and breathe in her scent, feeling her breath on her neck.
Trying to act unbothered - that's the thing, she wasn't even in the slightest bit uncomfortable - she continues to watch turtles being turtles. Or well, specifically tortoises. This video had a bunch of silly turtles of any shape and form.
Then, she felt it.
Rumi's head shifted closer than ever, as if boundaries didn't exist anymore and she knows Rumi likes her space when it came to physical contact. She never pushed Rumi before when it came to hugs or anything, really. Usually she just asked without saying the word, she let her body speak it for her.
So, having the lead singer of Huntrix press herself on Zoey's side like she was some clingy cat was entirely new.
That was super duper odd.
But hey she never complained that it was uncomfortable or unsettling, it's definitely new and slightly shocking but whatever. Rumi was just a bit special, odd and weird but in her own way.
Though you really can't ignore the signs, can you?
After the Huntrix members defeated Gwi-Ma, and ignoring the fact that Rumi actually hissed at him during the battle — they were shocked to see a blue derpy cute looking tiger in the penthouse.
So naturally, he's a big fluffy blue cat. And cats likes toys, right?
Mira was the one who didn't hesitate to buy the toys. But oh man, it was all Zoey who chose all the products that seemed cat-worthy.
When it arrived less than an hour - wow, shipping - they got their hands on all the neatly packaged up cat toys.
Derpy is a very big fella, so he was as tall as when they squat. With toys to see whichever item he likes the most. There's this rod — what, a fishing rod? With a mouse on a string attached to it? — and they tried to catch his attention with it. Didn't really work out well, his gaze going both.. ways. Literally. And then—
The mouse was violently grabbed before being let loose, Rumi crashing to the side - fucking rolling over and going back to stand on her knees and knuckles.
Mira nearly had a heart attack (not seriously) when it happened all too fast, Zoey laughed so hard about the sudden crash.
She's clenching her fist on top of where her beating heart lays, trying to calm it down. She frowned, because what the fuck Rumi? She could've gotten hurt, but she seemed fine. Eager, even.
Zoey grabbed the stick- rod, whatever the hell it was called, from Mira's weak grasp and tapped on it. The mouse nudging like it was actually alive. Rumi's attention was purely focused now on the fake animal, on the animated toy. She lowered herself like a predator, like a feline, then pounced.
Only for her to miss it again and tumbling away.
Okay.. so maybe Rumi is touched in the head. Then again, aren't we all?
They finally figured it out after one thing.
Mira was on the couch with Zoey, their distance less than a meter apart. Rumi was nowhere to be seen or heard, so they don't really know where she is or what she's doing.
They did talk about her behavior, how it was odd and how it's unusual for their leader to be behaving like some curious kitten. Zoey joked about doing cat calls or anything of the sort, then Mira jokingly dared her to do it.
So, Zoey does to amuse them. But they weren't actually expecting the fact of soft thudding in the living room that paused. They turned around, noticing Rumi entered with a thick white hoodie and her choo-choo pants with teddy bears. Mira blinked, Zoey blinked.
Rumi slightly rotated her head to the side, as if she's questioning them on why they both called for her.
"Do you think she actually heard it—" Zoey whispers in disbelief. Mira hummed, also in disbelief. "Do it again."
"Pspspsps." Zoey didn't hesitate to comply, but Rumi stood up straight and smiled, softly padding her way in front of them - happy that they wanted her attention, that they wanted her.
So she sat down once she was in front of the both of them, on her knees, and waited for something.
Yeah, Rumi was a cat. There's no denying it anymore.
