Work Text:

The moment you saw dark tentacles slither through the narrow street you were walking along, you knew who would be there when you looked up.

Aleksander. Your former lover, who you had run away from just a few weeks ago, the moment you found out who he really was. You had been with him for centuries, but you just couldn’t accept what he was planning to do once he’d find the Sun Summoner, how his goal actually wasn’t to tear down the fold like he had been telling you all this time. You had sat there believing him like a fool, but you would do that never again.

“You look tired,” he told you once he reached you, smiling at you gently. “Come home with me, running doesn’t suit you.”

You clutched the dagger inside your coat tighter, even when you knew it was foolish. No blade could match with his powers, he would restrain you before you’d get close enough to sink it into his chest. But still, the dagger gave you a false semblance of bravery to stand there in front of him.

“You lied to me,” you seethed. “All these years, you lied to me.”

He stepped closer to you, and you took a step back. He paused. “I told you what you needed to hear. Look what full truth did to us.”

You let out a hollow laugh. “Us? There was never ‘us’. I would have never touched you if I knew who — what — you really are.”

Aleksander’s eyes didn’t soften, didn’t harden, as if your words didn’t affect him at all. “You will come home with me.”

You shook your head. “No, I won’t.”

He cocked his head. “You’ll rather continue living like a homeless thief? Sleeping on rooftops, stealing apples from the market when no one is looking, not finding any kind of jobs anywhere?”

You swallowed and lifted your chin up, trying to feign confidence in front of him, when in truth you were absolutely terrified. “Anything is better than coming back with you. I wish you nothing but pain.”

A moment passed, two. You stared at each other, before his eyes started to wander over your form. He seemed to notice the slight bump under your shirt, stepped closer again and grabbed your arm, lifting your sleeve to reveal a freshly bandaged gash you got that morning. “You’re hurt—”

You ripped your hand away and yanked the sleeve back down. “Don’t touch me, you filthy scum!”

Finally, a slight worry in his voice. “It could get infected, you could die. Let my healers help you.”

“I won’t take anything from you,” you hissed and turned on your heel, refusing to show your fear to him. “You can’t keep me anymore, Aleksander.”

“I will find you,” he growled. “I will find you wherever you go, however far. You’re mine, you’ve always been mine, and I’m not letting you go.”

You didn’t answer, and his voice echoed along the street as you made your way towards the main street.

“Even if you burned the world to hide, I will walk through the ashes to find you.”
