Summary:

For a minute you just stare at the control panel. Sometimes you wonder what madness made you think you could do this—you and Peake and the handful of mechanics remaining on the station. No one knows what to do. After all, it has never been done before.

The Sleeper has learned that Life on the Eye after the Flux is full of challenges. This day is no different.

Background

Æ1 (colloquially, Erlin's Eye) is a former Solheim property (torus-type colony station, model  α-1b-0078). After the Solheim collapse, it was infiltrated by unauthorized personnel referred to as "The Union" who gave rise to its current leadership, the Havenage group. While Havenage's council claims authority over the station and acts as its ruling authority, its grip on the station is tenuous at best. Other groups such as Yatagan operate with a gang-like structure and control entire swathes of Æ1.

Mission Status

While the initial KAN radiation release showed positive results with confirmation of Shadow Protocol initialization, subsequent results have returned as negative. Expected output was an initial 10% of system failure with cascading failures upon subsequent Kan bursts. Maximal effect reached 25% before systems appeared to reinitialize and return to stable 75% operational capacity.

The lack of cascading system failure (observed in missions REDACTED, REDACTED, and REDACTED) on Æ1 cannot be attributed to outside assistance. No ships docked after the initial KAN release. The "Flotilla" (official designation: REDACTED), consisting of former Ember's Moon colonists, had already departed. It's estimated that 65% of the Æ1 squatter population departed with it.

Readings from the station ceased on REDACTED. No further data has been retrievable and attempted scans by autonomous units have failed to return usable data. Data that has been retrieved appears corrupted. Attempts to reinitialize or reinstall the Shadow Protocol have failed. Purely speculative, but it appears as if the entire Æ1's data infrastructure has been converted to an unknown format no longer compatible with the Shadow Protocol.
