Together, even through different lives

Summary:

Xiang Fei and Shen Yuan were dating.
Xiang Fei was the author of the stallion novel Proud Immortal Demon Way, and Shen Yuan was his biggest critic and anti-fan.
Yet the two were dating. Lived together.
Then one day, Xiang Fei died in an accident. Grief stricken, Shen Yuan took his own life, only to wake up as Shen Qingqiu, the scum villain of his boyfriend's novel.

Notes:

I'm writing Shang Qinghua and Shen Yuan as ace because I'm ace so it's just easier for me that way
I have no idea where I'm going with this (I have a vague idea, I just don't know how to write it out) so updates will be random. Also I have depression, which don't help.
Edit: apparently Shang Qinghua's OG name was just released and is Xiang Fei, so now I'm editing every single one of my fics, I originally had his name as Shang Hua

Chapter 1

Notes:

We all just gonna pretend this would be legal in China 🙂👍

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

"Ugh, your new chapter is just as shitty as all the others!" Shen Yuan complained. "This is why I asked to beta before you posted, this was a really good idea before you ruined it!"

"We need to eat Shen Yuan," Xiang Fei replied. "This is what pays the most."

Shen Yuan gave his boyfriend an incredibly unimpressed look. "My parents literally pay for everything since I can't work, idiot."

"It feels unfair to them though!" Xiang Fei protested.

Shen Yuan sighed. "My family runs one of China's most successful and popular companies," he reminded Xiang Fei. "This is barely a dent in their paycheck. Plus my older brothers help out."

"I guess I'm just not used to... and the story..." Xiang Fei mumbled.

Shen Yuan gave him a sympathetic look. "It'll be okay," he promised.

Xiang Fei nodded, and began typing, working until Shen Yuan forced him to bed, an impressive feat considering the man was chronically ill and rather weak from his illness. Then again, Xiang Fei just went along with it, worried his boyfriend would injure himself.

The accident happened the next day.

Xiang Fei was watching his boyfriend yell at people on the internet in a discussion about PIDW while eating ramen noodles.

Then they spilled all over his keyboard, and he accidentally unplugged his computer from the outlet.

"Ah, crap!" He yelped, instinctively going to plug in his computer. Then all he felt was pain.

Shen Yuan heard the screaming, and hurried to Xiang Fei's room, phone still in hand. His eyes widened in horror at the sight, and he instantly dialed the number 120, yelling his address and begging for an ambulance, explaining the situation.

Paramedics arrived swiftly, separating Xiang Fei from the source of the electricity and taking him into the ambulance.

Shen Yuan paced nervously back and forth, until his parents came to take him to a checkup at the hospital for his illness.

When he arrived, one of the paramedics who'd retrieved Xiang Fei was sitting there, head in his hands. When he noticed Shen Yuan, the man stood and walked over to him.

"You're the one who called earlier for Xiang Fei." It wasn't a question, but Shen Yuan nodded in confirmation anyways.

The man bowed to him. "I'm sorry for your loss," he said. "He just passed."

Shen Yuan collapsed right there on the floor with a scream of agony while his parents tried to comfort him. His outburst ended up landing him in the hospital for a week.

When he came back, he didn't talk to anyone, just replied to comments complaining about late updates saying that his "roommate" had passed and there would be no more updates.

He barely ate, not finding it in him to cook since Xiang Fei wasn't there to enjoy it. The first time he did, he made a meal for two out of habit. He broke down and now occasionally nibbled on whatever was in the fridge or pantry.

His parents or siblings visited him, at least one of them always there.

Then came a day where none of them could be there.

His oldest brother and father had an office meeting neither of them could miss, his mom was sick and his youngest but still older brother was taking care of her. His little sister had classes and didn't know he was home alone.

Shen Yuan was left by himself for the first time in three months. He calmly grabbed some rope, and made a noose, tying it to a fixture in the ceiling. Then he placed it around his neck and kicked over the stool he was standing on to do so.

Fortunately it was a quick death. He felt his neck snap, and everything was gone.

Or it should have been. Instead he opened his eyes, finding himself lying on a bed with a familiar face looking at him.

It was the character design for Yue Qingyuan.

What the fuck?!
