Work Text:

It was hard keeping it a secret from *the* gossiper of Inarizaki, but with a bit of help from the others, he was always able to stray the attention away from himself.

They had been together for years now, ever since high school. And as the years went by, everyone had always asked either one of them when they were going to tie the knot.

Nobody knew that Osamu had been planning their wedding since the two met.

The moment he laid eyes on that tall middle blocker, he knew he had to have him. No matter what. When he overheard from his brother’s loud mouth that he was half, he got to work immediately.

He was dedicated. Several learning books with his own hard earned money, virtual classes, and he even went to tutors!

So whenever Rintarou would call Atsumu dumb names in Chinese, secretly, Osamu laughed along.

By far, this was the biggest secret he’s ever tried to hide. Usually, Rin would be able to sniff out anything he was hiding, but that didn’t apply to now.

He knew no one else who spoke Chinese other than rin—wait, that’s not true.

Atsumu’s crush spoke Chinese.

Him and his cousin.

It wouldn’t be too bad to kill two birds with one stone, right? He’d be doing his brother a favor.

Over time he hits up Kiyoomi (through Rin, of course) to ask him for help, as the Tokyo duo and their families were all fluent—for business purposes.

“What’s in it for me?” Kiyoomi said, moments before being hushed with the proposal of having his twin. Really, it sounded more sinister than it actually was. Osamu could tell that the Itachiyama spiker had a thing for his brother, thanks to the help of Rin. So really, everyone was helping Osamu out here.

From then on, Osamu would regularly practice with Kiyomi for a few minutes each day, and when he wasn’t available, he would practice with his cousin, Motoya. As the days passed, the three of them grew closer, gaining a bond that everybody else was surprised with, especially the blonde twin. He was scared, he knew Osamu was plotting something. He just didn’t know who it was against.

By year 5, post graduation, they had become super close friends, with Osamu and Rintaou starting to date 3 years prior and Kiyoomi and Atsumu just starting to talk. The two of them were too stubborn to admit feelings to each other, and it was killing everybody. Osamu and Rin, however, everybody knew they would get together eventually, in fact they thought they would skip dating and go straight to marriage.

Day after day, whenever Rintarou would come over to do whatever it is that he does, he would “teach” Osamu a few words.

What Rin surprisingly didn’t know however, is that Osamu already knew everything he was being taught.

He knew all the small phrases that Rin tried teaching him, even all the cuss words (thanks, Motoya).

Just to throw his lover off his tail though, he’d always mispronounce words or purposefully forget the phrases, both of which annoyed himself.

He had become nearly fluent at this point, to the point where he listened to in’s conversations with Motoya, understanding almost every word that came out.

The closer he got with Rin, the more and more he practiced. If for some reason he couldn’t practice that day due to work or other things, he would always make it up.

He knew from the moment he met Rin that his wedding gift would be above all others. After all, he had been preparing for it since they first met.

It was originally supposed to be used to try and make himself seem cool to the other, but he got way too into it. The more he tried to avoid Rin’s attention, the more eager he was to actually hide it. They may have different paths and personalities, but a twin is a twin, and these twins love a challenge.

That nonchalant facade wasn’t throwing anyone off, especially Suna.

So when the two finally tied the knot after years of dating, nobody was surprised.

What surprised people however, was their wedding. Right when they were exchanging their vows.

At this point, the only people who knew about Osamu’s second language were his tutors and friends, Kiyoomi and Motoya.

During the wedding reception, all was well. The moment Osamu saw Kiyoomi walk into the wedding hand in hand with Atsumu, he immediately smiled, knowing how the two of them had helped each other out.

Osamu and Kiyoomi, not the blonde.

The slow burn was killing everybody, Suna and Komori being two perfect examples of their victims.

He said his greetings to the pair, joking with his twin and then quickly whispering, practicing his vows over and over to Kiyoomi.

It was a big day for him. Obviously since it was his wedding, but also because his secret would finally be public.

So during the ceremony right after Rintarou finished his vows at the altar, Osamu grabbed his paper, clearing his throat.

He couldn’t mess up any of the words. The love of his life and his family were here watching.

He took a few deep breaths, hands shaking.

Osamu started off his vows by greeting his husband-to-be in perfect Chinese. The shock of hearing his other native language instead of Japanese wiped the cool guy persona off from Rin’s face.

He covered his face with his hand, trying to hold back an ugly sob.

Inside, Osamu explained his “wedding gift”, telling him how he didn’t regret learning anything at all, and that he loves him forever.

Obviously since the entire thing was in Chinese, nobody really knew what he was saying. Atsumu, in fact, was standing there looking around, trying to guess what he was saying.

But it’s okay. Osamu didn’t care. He wanted only Rin to hear what he was to say.

The vows weren’t for others to hear and see just how much they love each other, they were meant for the two of them, which honestly, showed Rin just how lucky he got.

The whole time while reading, Osamu would glance up at Rin, only to find him weeping and smiling. He’d be lying if he said he didn’t cry a bit as well.

Sure, these vows were made for the two of them, but it really had shown everybody else just how much they loved each other.

The ceremony ended with a kiss and a tight hug, Rintarou practically raining on Osamu’s shoulder.

The whole secret being out really made it easier for Osamu, though he didn’t know if he would regret it or not.

For one, he got to communicate with more customers without “needing” his now-husband’s help. However now, he would always get angry calls and texts from his twin demanding a translator. Why doesn't he just ask his boyfriend? Who knows.

He didn’t mind it though. As long as he’s able to gossip in front of people with the love of his life, he’s set.
