Chapter 1: A Christmas treat

Chapter Text

It was Christmas Eve, Gotham city was particularly calm today, criminals were lying low, even they took breaks, Batman supposed. Batman sat on the top of a roof, scanning the streets for anything strange. Families laughing and smiling together, couples ice skating, kids running around, nothing unusual for a night like this.

Behind him, however, he heard footsteps, footsteps that belong to one person. One clown. "Joker." Bruce addressed without looking at him, keeping his eyes on the streets below but still acknowledging the jesters presence.

Joker just giggled from behind him, "The one and only!" He sing songed before plopping down on the roof next to the bat. Sitting there, kicking his legs a bit as they dangling over the edge of the ledge.

"So.." He hummed, acting as if they were pals. "What are you doing?" Batman just shot him a glaring look, obviously not in the mood to deal with the jokers persistent presence. "What do you want, joker." Bruce hissed out, now making eye contact with the green haired man.

"is it so wrong for me to miss my greatest enemy?" He laughed softly, though still sounding as manic as usual. All of a sudden he straighten up a bit, "I got you a present." Joker never had good intentions, so a gift was never going to be good either.

Then again, joker never came in person when he delivered a ‘present’. Usually sending letters or passive aggressive threats to go somewhere. The bat was tempted to ask what the present was, but that would most likely make the clown think Bruce cared- which he didn’t. Not at all.

The bat said nothing. Only narrowing his eyes. Joker took this as a sign to just continue instead. "It’s a Christmas present. Nothing else. I promise." He said with a slight smile. "And why in the world should I trust you?" The dark knight growled.

The jester grinned a bit wider, "It’s Christmas Eve, why would I lie to you?" Bruce didn’t believe a word he said, but ended up giving in. "What’s the present..?" Bruce’s words unintentionally came out hesitant.

From behind jokers back, he pulled out a small box, wrapped in green and purple wrapping paper. Of course. Joker held out the gift with a look of expectance on his face. After a moment Batman grabbed it from jokers hand. He gave the man a warning look, that if he tried anything, he wouldn’t hesitate to beat the life out of him.

He carefully unwrapped the present, while still keeping an eye on joker.

He opened the box, finding a deck of cards. A customized deck of cards with him and joker on them, as well as a bracelet. A friendship bracelet of some sort. No laughing gas or weapon like he expected. The clown had a big proud look on his face, as if proud of himself for not doing something wrong.

"Ah.." Bats mumbled out, standing up and turning to joker, who had also stood up a bit before he saw what was in the gift. "I.. hadn’t expected this.." Bruce said in almost a sheepish tone. "Thank you, jok-" He was cut off by joker leaning in and kissing him.

Bruce’s eyes widened, shocked. His first instinct would have been to push the man away, given who he was, but dame.. If he said jokers lips weren’t soft and surprisingly tasteful, he’d be a liar. Bruce’s eyes closed, his hands finding jokers hips as he pulled him closer.

After a moment Bruce pulled away, joker smiled up at him. Bruce’s mouth was now covered in jokers lipstick, causing the green haired menace to snicker.

Batman almost smiled- almost.
