Chapter Text
Yearning.
It is an intense desire of longing for something, or someone.
When people yearn for a certain thing, it usually means they've never gotten hold of that thing, or they've gotten it once but never twice.
I was one of those people.
It all started during an insignificant sunset, at an insignificant beach, on an insignificant day.
My house was located at the town's outskirts, near a wind farm beach.
Dozens of wind turbines stood tall at the offshores, spinning endlessly following where the wind blew.
The sea was within my foot's reach, but it never really fascinated me, and so I barely ever went there.
Though, it's not like I hated the sea either.
It's just that, once you've seen it for the first time, you've already seen all the time.
The waves only get so big, and people only come here during the holiday season.
The beach was always so deserted here, and after a while, I just got used to that feeling of solitude and stagnancy.
That day was no different than the other.
The sky was slightly overcast, with the wind blowing steadily as ever.
Activities at school had ended for the day, and there I was walking my way back to my home.
And there I was watching the sea.
"What are you doing?" A voice suddenly called out to me, asking a question.
I turned around, and our eyes met; a girl I had never seen before.
She was much shorter than me, her height was approximately one head lower than mine.
Her black hair was relatively long with two buns tied on the top, and her cream sailor uniform suggested she wasn't from around here.
"...Watching the sea," I answered shortly.
There wasn't anything else I could've possibly said.
The sea barely ever changes, and neither does the activity.
If I was asked the same question yesterday or tomorrow, my answer would have remained the same as well.
"The sea, huh? Having fun?"
"...Not really."
For a second, I thought I was about to let out a huge "Huh?" to her question.
I mean, I don't understand how anyone might think watching the sea could be fun in any way.
Maybe it would be fascinating to someone who rarely goes by the beach.
But to me, it's just the same old scenery I've seen way too many times.
An endlessly blue carpet with gigantic white pillars nailing it down to the floor, along with a violet-coloured sky, not too orange, yet not too blue either.
What does this girl find interesting in any of these?
"...Who are you, anyway?"
"Me? Well, I'm…"
