If we go down, then we go down together

Summary:

If one of them died, the other wouldn't be far behind. After the fight with the Indominous is over, Claire realizes Owen is gone, and Blue is quick to follow.

Work Text:

She was hiding in a gift shop with her nephews while Owen was outside with the Indominous. By some twist of fate, the raptors who turned on them suddenly switched sides and attacked the Indominous. She could hear them outside screeching as they attacked the Indominous, who roared in anger at their betrayal. Part of her knew it wasn’t enough, but all her attention was on Owen, who was fighting the Indominous with his raptors.

“We need more teeth.”

She gave her nephew a confused look, her body shaking with fear as the fight continued outside. She was terrified for Owen, and it took her a moment to realize what he meant. She suddenly got a terrible idea that would probably lead to her death. It also might be their only option.

She got up and opened a nearby medkit, pulling out a flare. She couldn’t believe she was doing this and tried not to tremble with fear as she grabbed a nearby walkie-talkie. Her nephews gave her a confused look, and she tried to look confident. Even though she was terrified of being eaten by a T-Rex.

She told them to stay there, promising that everything was going to be okay in an attempt to reassure both them and herself. Owen and whatever raptors were left couldn’t fight this thing alone. If she didn’t hurry, they would soon be overwhelmed.

She jumped over the counter and ran as fast as she could to the T-Rex enclosure. By the time she got there, she was shaking like a leaf and covered in sweat. Using her walkie-talkie, she spoke to Lowery, who was the only one left in the control room.

When she told him what she wanted, he sounded shocked and scared. He was probably wondering if she’d lost her mind, and she probably had. She still couldn’t believe she was about to let the T-Rex out of its cage.

Looking at a nearby camera, she pretended to be brave and confident as she spoke into the walkie-talkie, ordering Lowery to open the gate. It must have worked because a moment later, she heard an alarm blare signaling that the doors were opening. She lit the flare, breathing heavily as she watched the door open. Attracted to the flare, it wasn’t long before she heard the sound of a T-Rex approaching. She somehow looked more terrifying than ever before, and she shivered with fear. Her heart was racing, and she forced herself to stay still even though everything inside of her was screaming to run.

When the T-Rex had her full attention, she took off running as fast as she could. Her heels pounded against the pavement as she ran, and she wished she’d taken them off before letting a T-Rex chase her.

Behind her, the T-Rex roared, which motivated her to run faster. She felt tears fall as she felt its breath against her back. If she slowed down for even a moment, she was sure it would eat her. When she saw the Indominous, she threw the flare and jumped out of the way.

Lying on the ground, she watched as the T-Rex and Indominus roared at each other. The T-Rex stopped paying attention to her and turned its attention towards its competition. She watched as they charged at each other, the T-Rex looking pissed. She sat there watching as the two fought each other. The Indominous had longer arms and used them to her advantage, leading to the T-Rex being pinned.

She felt her heart sink, and she was forced to crawl out of the way as debris went flying. The T-Rex’s head was rammed into the gift shop, and she watched as Owen and her nephews ducked for cover. The building around them was quickly disintegrating and on the verge of collapse.

Owen covered her nephews and ended up getting hurt in the process. With everything going on, none of them had noticed how bad it was. She felt Owens' eyes on her, and she shouted for them to run.

Her nephews ran over, looking scared, and Owen followed, looking pale. He tripped on the debris and struggled to get up. More debris was thrown, causing Owen to gasp as he was hit. He didn’t seem to register the pain. Instead, he was looking off to the side, his eyes wide with shock and relief. She looked over, heart racing, and saw that one of the raptors was still alive.

It seemed to notice Owen was injured and gave him a worried look. Owen made some kind of noise, reassuring the raptor. At the same time, the Indominous roared, and she looked over to see the T-Rex pinned. Her heart sank as she realized it wasn’t going to win the fight. That was until the raptor used the T-Rex to jump onto the Indominus' back.

This allowed the T-Rex to get up, and the two worked together to fight the Indominus. Strangely, it almost seemed like the raptor was trying to push the Indominous away from Owen, who was still on the ground.

She gave him a concerned look and watched the man shakily climb to his feet. He ran over and joined them in hiding behind some rocks. She could hear his labored breathing, and she glanced at him. When she noticed blood on his shirt, her eyes widened.

“Owen?”

“We need to move.”

He croaked out and forced himself to his feet. Her nephews followed, and they all ran into the nearby gift shops. Glass shattered around them, and she focused on running. She didn’t see Owen collapse. She was too focused on getting her nephews out of harm's way and watching the fight.

It wasn’t until the T-Rex had left and the raptor turned to them that she remembered Owen. It stared at them, and she trembled in fear, pulling her nephews behind her.

“Owen?”

She shakily asked, not daring to look away from the raptor in front of her.

“He collapsed.”

“What?”

She glanced at Gray, and the raptor seemed to understand. She ignored them and rushed to Owens' side. She covered her nephew's eyes, expecting the raptor to eat him. Only she was surprised when she nudged him with her snout. When she received no response, she pressed her head against his chest. It was silent for a long moment, and then she began to cry. She felt her heart drop, realization dawning on her. The raptor lay down next to Owen and curled up around his body. Her head lay on his chest, and she watched as the raptor slowly relaxed until it wasn't moving anymore.

Zach seemed to realize first that the raptor was dead. Terrified, she slowly crept forward, looking between Owen and Blue. Both of them looked so peaceful lying together. She almost convinced herself they were sleeping if it wasn’t for the blood.

Realizing Owen was dead, she began to cry. Her nephews held her, and she could tell they were crying as well. Not wanting to separate them even in death, she decided to leave Owen, knowing that if he was going to die, he wanted to die with his raptors.
