Sweet Mornings

Summary:

Blaze decides to make breakfast this morning!

Notes:

There's not a whole lot of Blaze and Amy fics that really focus on them (love Sonadow to death but what do you mean half of the Amy/Blaze fics have them as a side pair???). So I hope you enjoy them having a moment in their morning.
(I'm rusty as hell, forgive me-)

Work Text:

Blaze was no stranger to rising with the early stretches of dawn, she’s an important asset to her people and her duties after all. She was also becoming more familiar with being held in a certain hedgehog’s arms and the rest of her room. In all honesty, Blaze never thought she would even know what it meant to be held this tenderly if the two never met. She rotated her body carefully to fully see Amy’s sleeping form, quills tussled out of shape, her pink fur reminded the princess of a low sunset in the slowly glowing light of the bedroom. The purple cat watched Amy’s ear twitch before she pushed her face closer to the crook of her neck and felt the puffs of air that came from her. She really wanted to surprise the other with breakfast, but she felt that it would be cruel to remove herself from the embrace so soon. She was warm and there wasn’t a single thing that had to immediately be done that morning. Blaze felt herself purr as she brought a hand to smooth out some of her girlfriend’s quills, feeling their softness and breathing in the strawberry scent from last night’s shower. Her paw dropped lower from the hedgehog’s head and lightly drew lazy circles at the small of her back. The cat’s efforts earned a whine of protest from Amy as she started waking up.

“Nooo,” Blaze heard her groan, “ten more minutes.”

“My apologies, rosebud, but I need to use the restroom.” Blaze hummed her half truth, her muzzle pressed into Amy’s forehead in a gentle kiss.

A tired sigh left the hedgehog before loosening her grasp on the princess, “Fine,” she cracked open an emerald green eye, “just don’t take too long.”

“I won’t.” Blaze chuckled as she slipped out fully and stretched, pushing the last bit of sleep from her limbs. She turned back around to give Amy another kiss to her forehead, but instead caught the hedgehog’s lips in a soft kiss. Amy giggled at her trick working and held the princess’s face gently. Blaze purred and brushed some quills out of her girlfriend’s face before walking into the hallway.

After her brief trip to the bathroom and brushing her fur into a more presentable fashion, Blaze looked inside of Amy’s fridge. She recalled several of the recipes and things that Amy helped her with and really enjoyed before. French toast was simple enough and she knew most of it by heart now with how often Cream and Cheese stopped over to play on weekend mornings. She had brioche, fruits, milk, eggs, cream…

It would take her less time than she thought, especially since she didn’t need to do a quick grocery run. Quickly, she began to prepare everything that she needed to make breakfast before pacing herself from burning any food. Occasionally, the princess would absentmindedly eat a few blackberries while she waited. She already knew she'd been gone too long for Amy to not be curious.

As if on cue, Blaze heard a yawn from behind and arms slipping around her waist, “I thought I said don’t take too long.” She heard Amy’s voice muffled since her head was placed between her shoulder blades.

“I thought it would be nice to make you breakfast.” Blaze smiled as the pink hedgehog made a sound akin to a quiet huff.

She felt her paws slip under the t-shirt she had borrowed for the night, almost like how they originally went to bed, “Would you like to help?”

Amy hummed in consideration before letting go, “Might as well,” she walked over to one of the cupboards to find her kettle, “thank you for starting. I would’ve just trapped you in bed until noon.”

The purple cat turned her head and smirked, “Oh, I’m very aware Ms. Rose,” she purred as Amy got water from the sink, “I fear nothing productive would’ve occurred if I had stayed any longer.”

A blush rose to the hedgehog’s cheeks as she turned the other burner on before planting a kiss on Blaze’s cheek and hid her face in the crook of her neck, “Meanie.”

As Blaze finished the last pieces of french toast, Amy grabbed two mugs from her cupboard. She thought about bringing some of her other belongings to stash away in Amy's home, but she figured she'd have to ask later down the line. Not that Amy would say no, of course. The hedgehog had already left a handful of outfits in the princess's wardrobe herself for when she visited the Sol Dimension.

“Strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries?” Blaze hummed as she set a few cartons on the table.

“Yes please, and–”

“Powdered sugar.” The princess smiled as she placed the fruits in a heart shape and gave the french toast a dusting of sugar. Her own pieces were covered in honey and whatever blackberries she didn’t devour while cooking.

Amy grinned and leaned over towards the cat, planting a soft kiss on her lips as thanks. She tasted the sweetness of her breakfast, the promise of a warm day. Paws and claws pulled them closer to one another, taking in each other's presence and making each other whole. The two pulled back, smiling gently as they sat close, basking in one of the many days they'd get to share with each other.
