Work Text:
It was a cold, winter evening, when Doctor (y/n) was sitting in her office. She was drinking green tea and looking at her patients’ papers. It was a moderately peaceful day; there were no incidents at work. Dr (y/n) finally had a day to relax from her usually stressful work.
Suddenly, she heard a knock on her door. She put her cup of tea down on her desk.
“Come in…” she grumbled out, sleepiness evident in her voice. Her door was opened by a handsome, tall, young man.
“Oh.. Hello!” The woman stood up to greet him. “What do you need?”
“Hello, I'm Doctor Foreman. I’m from Doctor House’s diagnostic team. We need a medical consult from a cardiologist regarding our patient”
It was no surprise they were asking for her, because she was known as one of the best cardiologists in the area. She felt a twinge of pride when she realized that the best diagnostician in this hospital wanted her opinion.
She adjusted her glasses and looked straight at the man.
“Alright, what are the symptoms of the patient?” She walked closer to the man so she could talk face to face with him.
“Here” he passed a folder to (y/n) with the patient's medical history, lab test results and symptoms. The woman muttered under her breath as she read through it.
“Huh… it seems like a hard case” she thought out loud and started excluding the most obvious conditions. After thinking for a while, she finally came up with an idea. “It sounds kind of like Kawasaki disease, but it is very rare in adults his age”
“Well, we pick the weirdest and least obvious cases on purpose” He lifted one of his brows and looked at the woman as if it was the most obvious thing he had ever said. Dr House must be just like in all of the gossip she has heard.
Dr Foreman intrigued her. The eyes. The posture. The look he was giving her. Everything about him was so… alluring.
The woman realized she was staring at him for far too long, and felt slightly embarrassed. She didn’t let it show and averted her sharp gaze to look out of the window in her small office. She placed her hands on her hips and smiled confidently.
“Well… I hope I helped. You should probably test the patient for Kawasaki disease now”
“Well, then I should get going. Thanks for your help, I hope you’re right. We really have no idea what condition it is” He nodded and smiled at her. Then, he walked out of the office without looking back.
When the door after Dr Foreman closed, she sighed and sat back down on her chair to get back to work. In the depths of her heart, she hoped she would meet him again in the near future.
The next day wasn’t as peaceful as she thought it would be. In the middle of the day she had a very sudden and important operation. It had to succeed, because otherwise her patient would die. She worked hard for a couple of hours and after getting out of the operating room she was exhausted and very stressed out.
The woman went back to her office and hoped no more people would bother her. She sighed and flopped down on her chair. She put her feet on the desk and opened up Solitaire on the computer. It was a game that was easy enough to relax her and make her think about something else than work.
After half an hour of mindlessly playing, someone knocked on her door. Silently, the woman hoped it was Dr Foreman. She really wanted to get to know him better.
“Please come in!” she said tiredly, turning off her computer and putting her feet on the floor. A figure already known to her showed up in the doorframe with a smile on his face.
“Oh! Doctor Foreman!” She welcomed him and smiled. The woman didn’t show her excitement at the thought of talking to him again.
“I have good news! We managed to cure the patient. It wasn’t Kawasaki, but your suggestion helped us identify the real condition. We’re really grateful, so we wanted to invite you to an outing this evening. Of course, if you have time..”
“Oh no, it’s alright, it’s not like I have someone waiting for me at home,” the woman chuckled. “So, when should we meet?”
“Cameron, Chase and I will be waiting outside of the hospital in…” The man looked at his watch. “in about an hour”
The woman smiled gently, barely suppressing her excitement at the thought of meeting Dr Foreman outside of work, even if his colleagues would be there too. When Foreman walked out of her office again, she slumped down on her chair and started fixing her hair and makeup, to look better during the outing.
An hour has passed already. The cardiologist met up with Foreman and two other young doctors outside of the hospital. She quickly understood that these two were probably Dr Chase and Dr Cameron she had heard about earlier.
After getting to know each other for a few minutes, they went to a nearby restaurant.
(Y/n) ordered her favorite dish, and drank some wine. They had some nice, casual conversation with lots of laughs. The dinner was very enjoyable for the woman and her desire to get closer to the doctors, especially Dr Foreman, grew with every moment they spent together.
Soon, they were all getting ready to leave. When the woman walked out of the restaurant, suddenly Foreman came up to her.
“Hey,” he started the conversation. “Would you like me to walk you home?”
The woman smiled warmly at the proposition.
“It’s very kind of you to offer,” she nodded her head. “Let’s go then”
For the first few minutes they just walked quietly, the only sound being the crunch of the snow under their shoes. It wasn’t awkward, you could even say it was enjoyable. The woman led the way to her house, which wasn’t that far from the restaurant.
“I really enjoyed tonight’s dinner,” Foreman stated. “It would be nice if we could.. you know, go out sometime again”
His offer caught the woman off guard, and she was quiet for a few seconds longer than she should. She tried to compose herself quickly, because it was what she hoped for from the start.
“Yes, I would like that a lot”, she replied.
