Chapter 1: The newest job.

Chapter Text

According to Kunugigaoka junior high, most of their quirks weren’t worth a damn. For such a prestigious school, it was shameful that they even had students with borderline useless abilities. The second one of those deemed unsuitable for heroics screwed up, they were shipped to E-class without so much as a second thought. A target was basically placed on those students backs; their grades started slipping? Off to the mountain they went.

Nagisa’s quirk only allows him to sense bloodlust in a 5 mile radius. In theory it sounds useful, but he can’t tell if the bloodlust is coming from friend or foe, or what the bloodlust’s intent is. To Nagisa, its only real purpose is knowing who to avoid when at school, if anyone was even angry enough to want to hurt somebody that bad.

His whole life flipped upside down when the octopus showed up. When the moon first exploded the government came out and said that an experiment they were doing went wrong. Most people believed it, even if there were a couple conspiracy theorists out there.

That’s until his class was let in on a national level secret; a villain was the one truly responsible for it. At first everyone thought it was a joke, if someone like that could really do something such as taking out more than half the moon, why hadn’t they heard of him before? Don’t most villains seek recognition for their doings? Shouldn’t they at least know his reputation?

The truth of the matter was they needed to kill him by March, or they’d be eradicated just like the moon.

“Isn’t killing it a tad bit too much?” A student towards the back, Mimura, asked.

“EXCUSE ME!? “it” I AM A PERSON JUST LIKE YOU!!” The uh alie- person with the extremely circular head shouted. “In fact I am a dignified gentleman, if you catch my drift,” the dignified gentleman’s face turned a striped yellow and green.

“Okay, well then, is it really necessary to kill HIM? Don’t hero’s usually just apprehend the criminal?” Maehara questioned the government agent.

A man dressed in a fancy suit responded, “Usually, yes. However, this things existence threatens the world and everyone on it. We simply can’t arrest him and be done with it, unfortunately.”

“What about someone like All Might? If he can blow up the moon then shouldn’t the number one hero take him out?” Fuwa asked.

“The hero’s are absolutely forbidden from hearing about this- someone of All Mights morals likely wouldn’t be willing to simply kill a human being.” The agent replied back.

Before anyone really had time to soak that in, the agent spoke again, “of course you aren’t expected to work for free, the reward for dealing him in is 7 billion.”

The class erupted in cheers at the prospect of becoming rich. Who wouldn’t after all? It isn’t like buying a scratch ticket, they know IF they kill that thing they WILL get the money. Besides they’re E-class, they’re predetermined murders anyways, so what’s the harm?

“Well class let’s make this year a productive one, it may just turn out to be your last hehehe,” their brand new teacher spoke with a smugness to his voice, and a striped face.

Graduation was only two weeks ago at this point. Those kids were still grieving, and will be for a long time. He was a great teacher not only that- a great person, and has every reason to be missed.

Karasuma needed a student to send to UA. Word is, something is brewing in the dark that has its eyes set on the hero academy. The ministry of defense needs someone that can get on a personal level with the students and report back to them. Someone who is trained, someone who is capable. Karasuma’s higher ups were asking for his star picked pupil to help with this mission.

Nagisa’s phone rang with a familiar number displayed on the screen. “Hi Mr. K! Is there a reason you’re calling?” The blue haired boy answered the phone as soon as he recognized the caller ID.

“I’m not your teacher anymore, there’s no need to address me with the “Mr” part.” Despite what the agent said, he didn’t mind the familiarity of the title, and he doubt that he ever would.

Nagisa smiled lightly as he spoke and a warm feeling seeped into his chest, “I know, I know, I just don’t think I can switch it up after all this time. Well, anyways, there was something you needed though, right?” Nagisa effortlessly got down to business when needed, something Karasuma could respect.

“Ah, right, this is something that should be talked about in person though. Would you mind stopping by my office if you’ve got the time?” Karasuma would at the very least meet Nagisa half way, but he’s been extremely busy since the *cough* parting of a friend. (Killing the thing that threatened the very earths existence unsurprisingly called for a mountain load of paper work.)

“Sure thing Mr. K, I’ll be there soon as long as you don’t mind me taking some…shortcuts.” The boy jokingly asked permission knowing he’d be allowed to take said…shortcuts.

“Whatever gets you here faster I suppose,” that was Karasuma’s roundabout way of telling him he could parkour his way over. Honestly, the agent was glad those kids were putting what they learned to good use, they don’t get to use their skills as often anymore. Since-well, they aren’t exactly aiming to kill something that can move at Mach 20 anymore.

“Alright, I’ll be there in 15, talk to you then!” Nagisa hung up with phone with a click and rushed to put his running shoes on. His mom wasn’t home right now so he didn’t bother with anything but trying to get to the office. He stretched before jogging out the door and rushing to see Mr. Karasuma.

Nagisa just couldn’t get his mind off of Koro-sensei, part of him wishes Karasuma was summoning him to his office to tell him Koro-sensei had miraculously survived, and that he was doing just fine now. Nagisa knew better than to linger on that thought, but he couldn’t help but wish it were true.

Feeling the wind through his hair was liberating, nostalgic even. Although graduation was only two weeks ago, he still missed this feeling. He could never have that again- not ever.

Just as Nagisa had promised he made it to Karasuma’s office just shy of 15 minutes. Being in a government agency felt strange (being a trained assassin and all). The facility was rather humble for being funded by the ministry of defense, but it felt more like Mr. K than some high profile building.

The teen realized his hair got a little messed up on his way over but it was to be expected with all that jumping around. Honestly, it was quicker and less tiring than he expected it to be, though, he suppose’s he was trained by the best. In any case, Nagisa approached the man’s door and lifted his hand to knock, casually trying to tame his bangs.

“Come in!” Karasuma quietly shouted on the other side. Before Nagisa’s eyes, laid a somewhat unfamiliar scene; Mr. K, instead of being absorbed in his work like usual, seemed to be waiting attentively for Nagisa to arrive. It was a nice change of pace seeing as how the agent always seemed to have his attention divided. The paperwork surrounding him told the boy he was doing it out of politeness rather than having nothing to do.

“Hello Mr- Agent Karasuma, have you been well?” It was a poor attempt at being formal, humans are creatures of habit after all.

“Yes, hello Nagisa welcome in, take a seat we have a lot to discuss,” Karasuma talked no different than normal and made no effort to adress Nagisa’s slip up with the names, which he kind of suspected the boy did on purpose.

Shiota walked over to Tadaomi’s desk and took a seat in the chair that was placed across from it. He was kind of nervous to be here. He hadn’t seen or talked to Karasuma since graduation, and he definitely didn’t expect to be contacted first-alone at that. He knew if there was an update about Koro-Sensei the entire class would be notified, so he suspected this was another government thingy that for whatever reason, he was chosen for.

“This is pretty out of the blue but I figured you’d be the best person to contact for this job,” karasuma started. `ah, so it was for the government…awesome.” Nagisa thought in response to the “job” part. He kept any sign of discomfort off his face seeing as though his last government job left him in grief.

“It’s fine, will it just be me participating in this? Oh and is this another bounty thing, will I get paid?” The teen asked. He wanted compensation but if this was more of a favor thing-he wouldn’t mind working for free.

“Yes, you will get paid. However, this isn’t a bounty scenario, you’ll get paid by the hour-or however they decide to do this.” Karasuma didn’t know how the payment was being decided yet he just knew there was one involved.

“Anyways you know of UA, right?” The government agent obviously knew that he did, it was only the biggest hero academy in the world.

“Yes, unless you don’t mean the school, then no.”

“The hero school, yes.” The man answered the boys question then continued with information regarding the job. “The mission requires you to infiltrate UA academy, legally of course, you’d have to take the entrance exam and pass. The only people on the inside who would know, would be the principle, Nezu, and your would be homeroom teacher, Shouta Aizawa. Regardless of how you do on the exam you’ll be placed into his class.” Nagisa followed along and mentally took notes to prepare questions.

“Would either of them know I killed Koro-sensei?” He doesn’t want to be looked at like a threat if they did know.

“Principle Nezu would-but he sympathizes with the situation, plus he’s a very intelligent man, so I highly doubt any criticism would be thrown your way. However, it’s your choice on whether Aizawa would know or not.”

From what Nagisa is being told, it sounds like Nezu is a pretty reasonable guy. It’s nice to know he wouldn’t have to completely dance around the fact he was on a job. In any case it appears he’s supposed to keep an eye on the students rather than the faculty. He guesses they probably already have someone looking into the adults, if it isn’t Aizawa or Nezu themselves.

After thinking for a little while longer Nagisa settles on his answer, (he would be lying if he said he hadn’t already reached one the moment Karasuma talked about the job). He doubted he could tell the man no anyways.

“Agent Karasuma, I’ll gladly accept this mission, thank you for the opportunity to do so.” While the answer was a bit formal it showed his dedication to the job; other than that Nagisa was honestly filled to the brim with excitement about this whole ordeal. Not only did he get to speak with Mr. K, but he also gets to indulge in some hero work! While he doesn’t particularly care-or even like the profession of a hero, he can’t help but want to experience the thrill of it.

Nagisa’s quirk on paper is weak. However, after E-class, it grew exponentially. Going from being able to sense bloodlust in a five-mile radius to being able to control bloodlust is quite the stretch, isn’t it? The unknown catalyst for his quirk's improvement was being exposed to other people’s bloodlust, and what better way for exposure therapy than a classroom full of would-be assassins—with a target drawing their killing instincts out at every turn?

The bloodlust at the start of the year was… lackluster, to say the least. Then Koro-sensei made his appearance, and suddenly everyone wanted to kill. They all desired to kill him; they all desired to see him be killed.

Anyways, troves of bloodlust was in the air- Nagisa’s quirk absorbing it all. Over the entire span of a year, his quirk was consistently being filled to the brim. The roof on his power was constantly breaking, so it had no choice but to build the walls higher. He went from detecting bloodlust to taming it. All of this was reasonably hard to believe under normal circumstances, so they kept his file as it was, with that mere five-mile radius cap.

He now has a vast range of things he can do with his ability. Of course, bloodlust detection-the radius has now increased to 50 miles. He can force people’s bloodlust out, or even snuff it out- essentially erasing their will to fight all together. He can’t touch his own, however. All this to say Nagisa’s quirk improved while his files stayed the same.
