Nightwing: A New Shadow

Summary:

She lands on a rooftop, in front of her is a man in a dark skintight suit and a domino mask covering his eyes. Diana draws her sword and takes an offensive stance, ready to attack.
"Who are you"? She asks stoically. The man smiles at her, ignoring the obvious sharp sword pointing at him.
"Don’t you recognise an old friend". He said before jumping off, disappearing into the night.

She stood on the rooftop, watching the masked man vanish in the dark. The response wasn’t something she had expected: “an old friend.” Who could this stranger be, someone she had previously known? Yet, despite having no clue who this new warrior could be, there was something familiar about him, something she couldn’t quite place her finger on.

Notes:

Arthur Context
Do not expect you to read this, but I would like you to know that I have not read any of the DC comics. I have watched some series like Young Justice, so the majority of the characters I've learned through fanfiction.

I'm also severely dyslexic and a non-native speaker, so hopefully Grammarly will understand me.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: A New Shadow And An Old Friend

Chapter Text

Chapter 1: A New Shadow And An Old Friend
Wonder Woman, Flash, and Green Arrow stood on the dark rooftop, observing the so-called “abandoned” factory. A new weapon dealer had appeared and spread across North America, weapons that, there were rumours that they could fire faster than the Flash’s speed and used Kryptonite-infused ammunition. These weapons in the wrong hands could stop one of the league’s most powerful members. Therefore, this issue must be dealt with promptly and has become their top priority in the past few months. Finally, they have managed to identify the dealer of the weapons as well as the locations of the deliveries. Now the three members have arrived in Bludhaven and are ready to detain the dealer known as “The Mayor” and get the information on the developer and producer of the weapons and ammunition.

However, entirely unbeknownst to them, there is a dark shadow watching them from a higher building farther away.

Barry, as the patient speedster he is, was relentlessly tapping his foot.
"Will you stop that". Oliver said through his teeth, fed up with the red and yellow hero.
Barry stopped his foot for a second and rolled his eyes.
"We have been here all night, and I have been very patient as someone who can run around the world in a fraction of a second".
Diana, ignoring the two, focuses on the arriving car that you can only hear because the headlights have been turned off.
"We’re going in". She said, and she jumped off the roof, tightly followed by Flash and Green Arrow.

And as they moved, so did the shadow.

The trio approaches the factory, making sure they are within hearing range while still being unseen. Many armed men surround the centre, where a small circle of men surround a man in a long leather jacket and a heavy silver chain. Entering the door is a man, escorted by a more heavily armed man, dressed in Army Dress Blues, clean shave, and military buzzcut.
"General Eiling". Wonder Woman said under her breath.

"You are The Mayor"? General Eiling said mockingly.
"And you have quite some balls there, general, but I wonder why a decorative military officer like you would be interested in my business. It had always been my impression that the Justice League and the military worked closely together".
"These are just precautionary actions to safeguard us, normal humans that is".
"Very well, I have the guns; do you have the funds"?

General Eiling tosses a duffel bag on the floor between them, causing the wide smile on The Mayor's face. He opens one of his bags, revealing a technically advanced machine gun. Eiling’s eyes widened while a smirk appeared on his face as well.
"I do believe a demonstration is in order". The Mayor said. Eiling nodded and watched as the Mayor grabbed a gun and pointed towards the set targets at the opposite end of the factory. Nearly instantly did an explosion occurred, leaving a glowing green residue.
"Marvellous". The general’s eyes lit up in satisfaction.

The three heroes watch in horror at the demonstration.
"What do we do now? Continue with the plan"? Oliver said, looking over at Diana.
"We should retreat; we need to plan how to proceed further properly, we are unprepared and outnumbered here".
The heroes withdrew from their position, ready to exit the building, the same one they had entered. Until they all froze from the sound of a loading gun. They were escorted with guns pointed at their back, their hands visible in the air.
"Hey boss, look what we found sneaking around". One of the henchmen announced.
The Mayor smiled and signalled his men.
"It looks like we just got some new practice targets". The Mayor said.
The heroes were tied together and placed in front of the weapon dealer and the twisted general. Eiling placed a meta-dampening collar on the Flash while grinning at the defeated heroes.
"I have always said your little club is only made up of a bunch of overconfident bastards".
"At least, now we can demonstrate the lethal part of these babies".
The Mayor and Eiling laugh amusingly, each picking up a gun and aiming it at their new targets. Diana’s heart dropped; regardless of whether this new weapon could kill a goddess or not, she would still lose two fellow heroes, allies, and friends. Two fathers wouldn’t come home again. Two husbands would never return. Her heart ached, and her pulse rose to the point she thought it would explode.

Just as she heard the weapons load, all of the lights went out. A fast-moving creature started knocking out man after man. It was like a shadow; you could only hear the men as they touched the floor. Guns began firing in all directions, hitting the walls and ceiling of the factory. In the midst of this, Diana could feel the ropes becoming looser. “I’ll deal with them”, she heard a man whisper as the ropes became untied. Before she had a chance to say anything, the police arrived with their red and blue lights and loud sirens.

As Flash was being loaded into an ambulance, Green Arrow was being checked, loudly arguing with the paramedic about going to the hospital. Diana stares at the dark alleyways and rooftops.
"Go to the hospital, Arrow. We will discuss today's events tomorrow".
She says before going off.
