Chapter Text
“And you were listening to Kwangya radio station! Join in tomorrow, 6 pm for more exciting news, advice and gossip. This has been your host, signing off with the song ‘Time Away from Home by Summer Salt’. Bye!” with that Seulgi lowers her microphone's volume and turns it off, letting the song play in its place. She collects her papers scattered around the table, containing scripts, the show segments, and a bunch of doodles she did when bored. Once the song ends, making sure all the equipment is closed, she walks out of the booth: the ON AIR sign turning off.
“Good job today Seul” Seungwan beamed at Seulgi as she walked towards her best friend. “Same old same old really” replied Seulgi.
The two best friends did everything together; from sharing the university dorm room to spending time and having food together when their vacant times aligned and now even hosting the University's radio every day except weekends at 6 pm.
“Come on, time for our mandatory post-radio hosting boba,” Seungwan said with glee while picking her bag off the couch in the lounge area of the recording booth, Seulgi doing the same.
“More like you dragging me to mandatorily have boba after radio,” the latter said. “Hey, we are college students who have classes from morning to evening, we need some sugar in our blood, excuse me” Seungwan side-eyed her while opening the door to leave “Now move it!” she said while waiting by the exit.
“We are so not beating the college student stereotypes,” Seulgi said while exiting the studio, resulting in both of them laughing.
Seulgi and Seungwan enter their usual cafe, namely Reve Cafe. It's a relatively small cafe located near their university's campus. With vines hanging from the beige ceiling, pine wood furniture and dimly lit bulbs the cafe atmosphere was just right for any student to focus on their project or for anyone to come in and have a good time.
So naturally, Seulgi and Seungwan unofficially claimed this place as theirs.
Hidden at the back right corner by the window was their spot. They could see everything and everyone from this position and so they usually found themselves sitting here.
“The usual?” Seungwan asked as she dropped her stuff onto the seat. “Yup,” Seulgi responded as she too took her place, “I’ll go order for us then” with which Seungwan took her leave.
As Seulgi adjusted her bag on the seat, she heard a familiar laugh coming towards her right. She turned to see and upon realising immediately looked away. There sitting, towards the center of the cafe was Joohyun, with her best friends Sooyoung and Yeri.
They seemed to be studying, as they had papers and notebooks scattered everywhere on their table.
Joohyun was the business major she has lowkey been crushing on, but she’s still in the denial phase so let’s say admire: the one she has lowkey been admiring, from afar.
She was one of the popular girls from the business department, and her best friends Sooyoung and Yeri followed after. Not like there was a list or anything, it's just what Seulgi thought.
Seulgi has interacted with them a couple of times due to org-related work but besides that, it was just polite ‘Hi’s Hello’s’ in the corridors whenever they passed by each other on campus. Her friends were extremely welcoming too. Like, extremely, welcoming.
And so here she was doing it again: staring at Joohyun. Seulgi quickly looked away before she could get caught in the act. It was just, to put it simply, hard to look away from Joohyun when she’s just so pretty and unfortunately, exactly Seulgi’s type.
‘But didn't she date Suho in freshman year?’ Seulgi thought and sighed for the hundredth time to dismiss her admiration; her thoughts continued, ‘She’s straight’. She turned to look at Joohyun one last time before Seungwan arrived back with their order, only to find Joohyun already looking at her.
Huh.
Seulgi got whiplash at how fast she turned her head to look away.
Her heart picked up pace and she quickly turned to look out the window, as if she didn’t mean to look at Joohyun.
“You look constipated,” Seungwan said as she placed the hot chocolate in front of Seulgi, “Is she looking?” Seulgi whispered frantically. “Huh, who’s looking?” the former said as she took her seat in front of Seulgi “Joohyun”, another whisper that seemed like a hushed desperate shout.
Seungwan then not so discreetly turned to look. “Oh, no, at least not anymore. Was she staring at you?” “Kinda? I guess?” Seungwan Ooo’ed to tease Seulgi, resulting in the girl bumping her head on the table in annoyance.
“You should do something about your crush Seul, we're not getting any younger here.” Seungwan tried to reason with Seulgi, but nothing ever came out of it like usual. All Seungwan got in response was a groan.
And so Seungwan and her smart brain started thinking. “What if you confessed to her?” she suggested, “Are you crazy? Firstly, she clearly doesn't like me that way, and secondly, she’s straight” Seulgi groaned, lifting her head from the table to look at Seungwan. “Didn’t we learn not to assume someone's sexuality Seul” Seungwan said back making Seulgi retaliate “Yes, but I don't know, I don't want to make a move without being sure”, Seungwan sighed in defeat and went quiet, except her brain wasn’t and so she suggested.
“What if you did it anonymously” Seungwan offered, “Through our radio”.
That got Seulgi’s attention, making her look up “And how would that work?”. Seungwan hummed in thought and after a few seconds replied “Why not during the outro where we play a song? You could say your small message to her and then dedicate a song. You wouldn't have to deal with embarrassment cause the broadcast is over and besides we’re anonymous as hosts, no one would know. So what do you say?”.
The offer was tempting, too tempting. Seulgi would have to think about this for a while surely, think about all the possible outcomes, wonder what could possibly go wrong- “Ok I’ll do it”.
“I beg your pardon,” Seungwan said with a gasp and continued ”Did you just agree to something I suggested in regards to Joohyun?”, with a poker face Seulgi replied “Don’t make me take it back” making Seungwan raise her hands in defeat.
“So how do we go about this?” Seungwan said, leaning in.
“Literally what you just said, I’ll give a tiny ment on how I’m feeling about her that day and passive-aggressively continue dedicating songs to her until she gets the hint” Seulgi sighed, resting her hand on her elbow. She couldn’t believe she just agreed to this.
“Great! You’re finally gonna get yourself a girlfriend” Seungwan gleamed, “But she’s straight” Seulgi reminded, “And how do you know that?” Seulgi sighed even louder.
“Let's just get over with this”
