糖衣荆棘 -- 𝜗𝜚 ࣪˖ ִ𐙚

Summary:

When Bai Liu and Tawil were Bai Liu and Xie Ta, they were both considered monsters by the orphanage kids. Once was a freaky creature, the one that never brushed his bangs aside from his eyes. The other? He seemed to be an even bigger monster, especially for befriending the freak of the orphanage. However, the two weren't ever as described. Not in a million years.

Work Text:

A large oak tree towered over two youths, its shade sheltering the duo from the harsh rays of golden sunlight, the unhurried breeze leisurely swaying the lush leaves. Below, resting in the shadows, had settled the windswept grass flourishing with clovers and the embodiment of spring. Disturbing the serenity of the patches of nature was a boy, an emaciated skinny one with ebony black hair, a light smile playing at his lips in the act of exchanging glances with the latter of the pair. He didn't seem too old, only bordering 17, yet his malnourished, weak appearance gave the impression that he was a few years younger. The teenager carried calm, black eyes - expressionless yet holding the slightest hint of relaxation - and a picturesque face, pleasing to the eye. His deep eyes traced a path towards the other man, sitting by him languidly and holding a book between his thumb and the rest of his fingers. In a messy pattern, bandages, which had once been wrapped around his eyes, fell around his neck, framing the pallid skin residing there. He seemed to be unaware of Bai Liu's gaze directed at him, his own eyes focusing on the book held out before him. His own eyes, the very eyes that carried the desires of the universe, that made people go mad upon facing the burden of the truth. His own eyes, those very eyes spoken of in an ill manner held a seraphic beauty, the silver hues shifting between a glowing metallic colour and the palest blue, like a gradient of the sea. Silky, incandescent coils hung by the outline of his face, enveloping his shoulders and waist, the iridescent gleam reflecting the environment around him. For being known as such monsters, both of them carried sublime, refined features displayed with such elegance.

The former was named Bai Liu (6), his last name representing the colour white whilst his first simply upheld the definition of the number 6. The latter was named Xie Ta.

Even from the sight of afar, they appeared to be an unconventional doublet, their appearances essentially contrasted one another as black does to white. Maybe it was for that very reason that they got along with each other, the power of their opposite poled magnets drawing to each other.

Xie Ta read the book aloud, pronouncing each word with alleviating reassurance, a type of comfort that sang beautifully to the ears. Nevertheless, he handled the book between the both of them, sharing the words with the other youth, Bai Liu. If one were to stand at a certain distance away from the pair, they would be met with the sight of an eerie, faceless creature with chalky skin, wearing a formal, black suit specifically tailored to its abnormally long limbs. The creature in question was of course, the infamous internet urban legend, Slenderman.

Yet Bai Liu (6) couldn't have paid less attention to the character. In all virtue, he didn't possess any fondness for it, or for any of the book series, to be frank. In fact, the singular reason he had tolerated reading it was because of the inaccessibility of horror books allowed in the orphanage - almost everything was seized and confiscated if it contained even the mildest of trepidation. Regardless, he was sitting right beside Xie Ta as a gore-filled book was being read aloud amongst them, a gore-filled book that should've been taken away the second a glimpse of its cover had reached one of the caretakers
