Chapter Text
Alma Madrigal -
She sees their gifts, not her children or grandchildren. Your gift determines your worth. Alma is overly concerned about the family’s reputation. She’s oblivious to her family’s suffering, only encouraging the cycle she started decades ago.
***
Relationship with her children :
Alma - Julieta :
When provided the opportunity, many of the townspeople would argue that Alma used to favor Julieta over her other children. (They would be absolutely right…) Though she couldn't heal everything and all the scars remained; Alma believed Julieta possessed one of the most useful gifts. Besides the ability to heal, Julieta was well-liked among the Encanto and had not done much that would upset Alma since Bruno left. What an almost perfect daughter!
Alma - Pepa :
Their relationship was…interesting. The ability to control the weather was a seemingly useful gift. The farmers of Encanto certainly appreciated the lush harvests and green fields. The only issue is the fact that the gift is controlled by her emotions. Pepa’s emotions tend to control her more than she controls them, much to Alma’s displeasure. The town and her family were only “slightly” terrified of her sudden outbursts, which had happened less frequently during the past few years. Perhaps aging helped?
Alma - Bruno :
In short, she is disappointed with him. Bruno almost destroyed the family’s reputation three times. The first was when he was a teenager. The second when he was in his twenties. And the third time was when he left right before Mirabel’s failed ceremony…….Did she miss her son? (Yes, yes she does. She may be a huge jerk but deep down in that cold heart of hers, she loves her family…sort of-)
***
Relationship with her daughters’ spouses :
(not much on them)
Alma - Félix :
An acceptable husband for Pepa. She appreciates his ability to calm her down (as well as he can). Outside of her appreciation for him, they don't really have a relationship.
Alma - Agustín :
Didn't believe he was a worthy match for Julieta and she didn't even support their friendship in the beginning due to Agustín’s immaturity. (He’s accident-prone) As of now, she doesn't necessarily like or dislike him.

Relationship with Pepa’s children :
Alma - Dolores :
Their relationship is good. Enhanced hearing, it was a respectable gift. And was a relatively useful gift. She is obedient and doesn't cause much trouble besides the occasional gossiping. Dolores is fairly well-liked within Encanto, despite her rarely leaving Casita.
Alma - Camilo :
They have a neutral relationship. Though he has caused her many headaches throughout the years. His gift’s main use is to bring entertainment to the people of Encanto, which he greatly succeeds at (whether it's for the better or the worse). He is very popular and has a considerable number of friends. She doesn't particularly approve of all of his friends. And most of the family would agree he often tends to get involved with interesting kids, to say the least. It’s laughed off… She is very grateful for the lack of pranks recently.
Alma - Antonio :
She may not love animals, but she must admit that his gift is incredibly powerful. He is an acceptable child. Antonio listens well and is very lovable.
***
Relationship with Julieta’s kids :
Alma - Isabel :
Not a soul in Encanto (besides some Madrigals) would argue that she wasn't the obvious favorite of Abuela. Isabel was her perfect granddaughter. Everyone admired her. Her gift was amazing. It was perfect.
Alma - Luisa :
She had a very useful gift. There was never not a use for her strength. And she was incredibly appreciated among the townspeople. Luisa was very obedient, she had no reason to be dissatisfied.
Alma - Mirabel :
Alma doesn't hate her… not really . . . It’s just complicated. Mirabel often gets in the way, she's extremely clumsy, she's giftless, and the trouble she causes! Oh, she has almost ruined their reputation as many times as Bruno! It's obvious they didn't have a relationship, not a good one at least.
