Chapter Text
The sun was setting as Porter rolled over to Killerwatt's shed, whistling as he went. He has a bag in his hand that contained the security truck's favourite snacks and movies, hoping he could butter them up enough to have a movie night, especially as they didn't get much time together due to their crammed schedules. He instantly went to bribe Lumber with money to take his job tonight when he saw that Killerwatt's schedule was free.
"Ah- oof.." The coal truck was so caught up in his thoughts that he had crashed into the shed door. He took a step back, rubbing his head, and knocked. "Killerwatt it's me!" He shouted, volume loud enough to wake up Belle at the other side of the yard. Classic freight noisiness.
The security truck finally opened the door and smiled up at the engine. "What are you doing here? You're supposed to be on the north line tonight?" A laugh escaped their mouth in slight disbelief at the sight of their lover.
"I er.. sorta.. bribed Lumber to take it so we could.. have a movie night..?" Porter rubbed his neck in embarrassment, smiling awkwardly at the ground. "I did bring snacks- here!" He handed the bag over to Killerwatt and looked into his shed.
Killerwatt grinned as they looked in the bag and grabbed Porter's hand, dragging the freight inside. "You're going to run out of money if you keep bribing the others!" They laughed and kicked the door shut, rolling over to the sofa, plopping themselves down on it and pulling Porter down in the process.
"It's fine, I've got loads of money after helping Slick derail Rusty! Bugger still won anyway, but she isn't getting any of it back!" He chuckled to himself, before realising the expression on Killerwatt's face.
"Pardon..?"
His face fell as he gulped, smiling nervously. "Nothing, don't worry love." He cupped the silver truck's face, pulling him in, but he was pushed away.
"You- YOU? IT WAS YOU?!" Their volume rose as they stood up and glared at the freight, a hurt expression painted on their face. They backed up slightly and clenched their fists, getting ready to punch the freight, who had his arms up in surrender.
"Woah- hey Killerwatt it's a past thing- he erm.. shit..." His voice trailed off as he realised there was no point in trying to weave his way out of it.
The security truck had wound his arm back, getting ready to punch before collapsing their weight onto Porter, floods of tears falling from their eyes as they slammed their fists onto the freight's chest. "You- monster-" They choked out between sobs, pushing away the red truck's attempts of comfort. "This is- all your fault- the crash- the endless nights in the repair shed" Their cheeks were wet and hands shaky while they drew back from Porter, curling themselves up on the opposite side of the sofa.
The freight sat helplessly, tears of his own threatening to spill while he watched his lover break because of his own actions. His own stupid actions driven by his lust for money instead of taken a moment to think about what could be a consequence.
"Fuck- Watts I'm sorry.. it's probably a bit late I just- I don't know.." Porter's fingers were picking at his skin, a bad habit he had picked up when nervous about the yard. A smoother, cooler hand came from the side and stopped him, rubbing their thumb against his calloused palm. He looked over to Killerwatt, whose face was in their knees, peeking out slightly with wide eyes, their hand still on Porters.
"Don't pick. They'll bleed." They mumbled while gesturing to the coal truck's hands. "I don't think I forgive you yet. I also don't think it's me you need to apologise too." They continued, face solemn and serious.
Porter nodded as they took in a deep breath. "That's.. fair. I don't know why I did it. Rusty didn't do anything to deserve that. I guess I just thought the engines might actually see something out of me. It's not like any of them use coal apart from Rusty. Starlight, he's basically the only engine I need to fuel in this yard" He admitted, head tilted to the side in thought.
"I think it's Rusty you need to apologise to."
"I think so too.."
