Chapter Text
In a sleepy little town called Adventure Bay, six pups were enjoying a nice day at the beach, deeply invested in their volleyball game. These were the pups of the PAW Patrol, the town's heroes. Skye, Chase, and Zuma were playing against Rocky, Rubble, and Marshall.
“Alwight, dudes, game point!” Zuma barked excitedly. He held the ball in his paw, a lively look on his face.
Rocky was serving. He grinned and tossed the ball up in the air, hitting it with his head. As it flew over the net, the pups watched in anticipation, waiting to see where it would go.
“I’ve got it!” Skye cried as the ball soared towards her. She leapt into the air and rolled into a backflip, hitting the volleyball with her front paws before landing firmly on the ground.
Marshall and Rubble both went for the descending ball, each without knowing the other was too. The two pups collided, sand spraying into the air as Marshall went flying over Rubble’s head. As the dust cleared, the pups could see the Dalmatian running back with a sheepish smile.
“I’m okay!” he said, his signature line. The pups laughed while Skye cried out “We won!” happily. Chase and Zuma high-fived while Skye did another backflip!
“Nice job, dudes,” Zuma said with a grin, bumping against Rocky’s shoulder playfully. They were best friends.
“PAW Patrol, to the Lookout!” The pups’ multicolored tags lit up like a rainbow, the same words emitting out of all of them. “Ryder needs us!” they barked in unison.
The PAW Patrol raced to the Lookout on flying paws, except for Marshall, who stayed behind to scoop up the volleyball, before following behind them.
“Where’s Marshall?” Rubble asked, looking around in confusion. “Oh no, Chase groaned, his ears pinning back as realization dawned on him.
“Here I come!” Marshall said cheerfully. As he spoke these words, he dropped the ball just in front of him, causing him to trip over it and knock into the pups like a bowling ball to pins. “Heh.. whoops..”
The pups rolled their eyes and shifted around as they ascended the elevator, slipping into the uniforms, serious expressions on their faces. When the elevator opened with a ding! They jumped into position.
“Ready for action Ryder, sir!” Chase barked attentively. The pups nodded silently in agreement, and Ryder moved to the drawing board.
“Thanks for racing here so quickly pups. We have a problem! Chickaletta has gone missing! Again,” he added as an afterthought.
“How does this keep happening?” Rocky asked with a chuckle. “Your guess is as good as mine,” Ryder laughed.
Moving back into serious mode, Ryder scrolled through his pup-pad. The pups wiggled around slightly, eager to see who would get chosen.
“Skye,” the cockapoo’s ears perked up as her name was called. “I need you to do an aerial search around town, and see if you can spot Chickaletta,” Ryder said firmly, pressing a button that made her symbol pop up.
“Let’s take to the sky!” she barked, doing a small little backflip and wagging her tail. Chase smiled, but only slightly. He turned back to see his pup-tag pop up.
“Chase, I need you and your net, just in case Chickaletta decides to run off again,” Ryder said. The German Shepherd’s heart was thumping in his chest, almost drawing out Ryder’s next words. He was going to go on a mission with Skye, just her and him!
The pups were staring at him expectantly and he blinked, confused. Oh! It dawned on him just then. “Chase is on the case!” he barked, sounding slightly sheepish as his cheeks burned.
Marshall turned his head to smirk at his best friend, which caused Chase to go even more red, but he was distracted by Ryder, who asked him to stay on watch just in case Chickaletta needed medical attention or was up a tree. “I’m fired up!” he said stoutly.
“Alright! PAW Patrol is on a roll!” The pups cheered and howled as Ryder descended the fireman pole, Chase following after Skye as they slid down the slide that wrapped around the Lookout.
Skye flipped into her copter, an excited look on her face, and Chase couldn’t help but admire her. The way the sun shone on her pale fur, her fluffy, floppy ears flapping in the wind, that sparkle in her warm magenta eyes… he liked her. A lot.
Skye soon headed in the opposite direction as them, heading more towards the open lands to scour for the Mayor’s lost pet, while Chase and Ryder searched the town.
“Ryder! I found her! Head over to Farmer Yumi’s!” Skye’s voice emitted through Chase’s pup-tag, the same with Ryder’s pup-pad. The German Shepherd and his leader hopped into their vehicles, already on their way.
“Great work, Skye! We’re coming over!” Ryder shut off his pup-pad. Soon the duo arrived at Farmer Yumi’s, where Skye had already landed, a smile plastered on her face.
“Come look,” she giggled, her magenta eyes twinkling with amusement. Chase and Ryder peeked inside the barn, where Chickaletta was nestled inside a haystack, fast asleep. The boys laughed at the sight, but quickly hushed, not wanting to wake her.
Skye flew the sleeping Chickaletta back to Mayor Goodway, who was very glad to see her prized purse chicken safe and sound. She thanked Chase and Skye with pets, then went to discuss something with Ryder.
The two remaining pups sat next to each other, the air a bit awkward. Chase’s heart pounded in his chest, and he was afraid that Skye could hear it. So he just blurted something out.
“So, Skye. Would you, uhm, maybe like to go to the beach with me? I heard the sunset’s going to be good. Y-you don’t have to if you don’t want to, I know it’s-” Chase was cut off by a reply from Skye.
“Yes, Chase, I’d love to,” Skye flashes a smile at the German Shepherd, who looks surprised. “Really?” he says.
“Sure! I love watching the sunset at the beach!” Skye replied. Chase smiled in return, his tail starting to wag.
“Awesome! Let’s go!”
