Work Text:
Soyo sighed and laid back on her bed. She hadn’t had a moment to rest in the past four days. Three of those days had been spent in Mutsumi’s room just… Being there. Mortis wanted her to help out somehow, but she was only able to come up with something on the last day. After that, they went to RiNG together, and Mutsumi did come back, but…
Soyo was dreading opening up her phone. The masses were cruel, and no doubt Mutsumi’s breakdown was trending right about now. Soyo’s blood boiled thinking about the way the crowd ignored her pleas to stop recording. Maybe she should just turn off the news app for a while. Resolving herself to do just that, Soyo opened her phone.
A flood of notifications littered her screen. She cleared all of them away and disabled her news app. Then she looked at her messages app, telling her of the 99+ unread messages awaiting her. She quickly skimmed through her band group chat, sent a few messages reassuring her concerned classmates and fellow orchestra members, and… This was strange. Her mother has messaged her.
Maybe she was worried? Soyo hadn’t seen her in weeks, but according to some shows she’s seen, some mothers had a sixth sense for their children being in trouble. Ironically enough, Minami Mori played one such mother.
Are you mad at me (1:21am 2 days ago)
There’s no leftovers (1:22am 2 days ago)
I love you I work very hard for you you know (12:59am Yesterday)
Do you want a bigger allowance (12:59am Yesterday)
Some new dressesss (12:59am Yesterday)
????? (1:00am Yesterday)
Okay you can have a bigger allowance check your bank account I put 100,000 yen in there for the entire month (12:30am Today)
Of course she didn’t notice Soyo was gone until the leftovers ran out. Of course all she cared about was whether or not Soyo was mad at her. No “Are you okay?” or anything of that sort. And of course her idea of a peace offering was a bigger allowance. Soyo typed up a response.
Sorry, I’ve been busy studying for my exams. There will be leftovers for you tonight. (Now)
Soyo forced herself out of bed, plugged her phone in (it was at 32%; far lower than Soyo usually let it go) and went to the kitchen. There were a lot of empty take-out bags laying around the trash can, as if her mother had tried to throw them in but gave up after the first failure. Soyo put them inside of the trash can only to realize it was overstuffed. She changed out the trash bag, washed her hands, and looked inside of the fridge.
The fridge too was messy, filled with many left-open ingredient containers (half of which were empty) and… Did her mom take a bite out of an onion? In that case, Soyo could use it for her portion of the dinner tonight. Soyo wasn’t about to go grocery shopping, and the last thing she wanted was to look at her phone again, even if it was just to order a delivery.
