Work Text:

Your body sprawled on the bed as you sigh of relief after completing your tasks for the day.

As you lay on the bed, your hand instinctively reaches out beside you only to feel nothing but the wrinkles of the sheets that have been set by Hermes when he got up for work. ‘Right, he’s still running some errands.’

You decided to wait for him. Time passed by, closely ticking to midnight. You grew a bit more concerned as the time ticked by. Sure, you were used to Hermes coming home late— even with him coming back in the early morning, but at the very least he would warn you when he’d stay out late. Even though you knew he'd be fine on his own, you couldn't help but be worried for his well-being.

You feel your eyes start to get heavy from exhaustion of waiting for him and the tasks you've completed throughout the day. Before you know it, you dozed off. Clutching his pillow as a stand-in for his absence.

———

Early in the morning, before the sun could even rise, Hermes came back— opening the door as quiet as he can as to not wake you up. He put his bag and helmet down, as he took in the view of your sleeping form and joined you in bed.

Hermes let himself sink into the comfort of the bed. His body finally got a break after extensive usage of it. He glanced at his side, seeing his lover sleeping, but noticed something off about your expression. Recognizing the unease and concern you had on your face, he ran his hand down your hair, silently saying that it was alright and he was there. He continued his actions till he caught sight of your face relaxing at his touch.

He had almost forgotten the place he was supposed to show you once he came home, so after some time bathing in the comfortable silence, Hermes wakes you up gently, yet excitedly by shaking your shoulder. You whine at the action and clinged onto him still engrossed in sleep. He felt a bit bad for waking you, but he couldn't wait later on to show you something he came across while he was away.

“Darling, wake up~” Hermes whispered, as he continued to gently shake you awake.

You groan in slight annoyance that you're being disturbed as you slept, but reluctantly opened your eyes to him smiling lovingly at you. “Mhn… what is it, dear..?”

“C’mon, get dressed, I have somewhere to show you…~” He replied, answering vaguely.

After a reluctant and tired sigh, you decide to play into his antics, and get up from the bed to get dressed, even if your body was screaming for you to go back to the comfy bed and snuggle in the covers.

You took a wore a simple plain chiton, too lazy to find something fancier. Plus, you weren't sure where you were going, and even if you ask you know you'll likely get his usual response of ‘You’ll see’ in his teasing sing-song voice. After pinning the brooch in your outfit, you tiredly dropped yourself onto his shoulder.

“Really have no idea what to wear, huh?” Hermes asked, amused from your bleary state. “Too tired…” You say bleakly, spontaneously clutching onto him like a sloth clinging a tree.

He pushed you away gently, trying to put his helmet and chlamys back on until your semi-conscious mind took the hint and let your body flop across the bed; bouncing once and making a small thud.

Hermes then lifts your limp body from the bed up and takes you to the balcony. You continue to cling to him as he steps out. Feeling a slight shiver from the wind weaving in and out the hair of both of you. Before you could say anything else, he took flight. When jumping off, there was a brief moment where the both of you was just falling causing butterflies in your stomach and forced you to grip on him tighter.

“Relax, darling~ I'm not gonna drop you,” A moment of silence occured before he continued. “...yet~”

You lightly bit his neck in response, making him yelp dramatically. “Hey…! what was that for?”

“What do you mean ‘yet’?” You raise your eyebrows, not amused at him playing dumb as he responded. “I'm just making sure that you know I'm not making any promises, that's all~ ack—!”

You bit even harder at his reply.

“Okay, okay! I won't! J-just stop biting me—!” Hermes squirmed from how ticklish and painful your bites were.

———

Both of you continue to bicker and tease one another until you two arrive at the place he so desperately wanted to show you. Observing the surroundings, you find the both of you atop a cliff overseeing the sea. It was a basic scenery that you've seen many times over, but reliving each time still feels a nice breath of fresh air.

He places you down the grass, as he does so, you feel each blade of grass still cold from the night before. This moment made you realize that you've forgotten to wear your sandals. You walk through the grassy ground until you've reached the rocky edge of the cliff. Sitting at the edge, you pat the ground beside you, silently inviting Hermes to sit next to you.

Taking up your offer, he sat beside you. Letting you lay your weight on him and (once again) turn into a tree you could hug like a koala.

“Why’d you take me here?” You mutter against his skin, still taking in the view of your surroundings.

“Mhn… I don't know, I just thought it was a pretty neat spot.” He said monotonously, yet you could hear his reasons beyond what he had said.

It was one of those pockets of space in the world where you could just… breathe. Not care about the worries that you had, or any of the pain building up inside of you. Just letting the salty ocean breeze hit your face as you feel time freeze, finally breathing a sigh of relief in a world that was going too fast. A space with neither mortals or gods could bother you. Well… heh, except for the person beside you.

You intertwined your fingers with Hermes, feeling his calloused hands against yours as he brought your hand up to his lips to kiss your knuckles. “I love you…”

You smile at his words. “Mhn… I love you too,”
