Work Text:

ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 🛌⋆.ೃ࿔*:・

It's a rare 48 hour that the both of them share.

It didn't align perfectly of course, Buck's been off for a few hours by the time Tommy makes it home, but it's more time together than the two of them are used to.

Buck's prepared dinner for the two of them. Nothing too fancy, as they're both exhausted and are going to hit the sack pretty soon after the eat. But it's homemade and Buck's always happy to spend any time he can get with Tommy.

Dinner is quiet and after a quick shower, the two of them crawl into bed.

Tommy's already ready for sleep, phone plugged into his charger, and eyes closed as he lies on his stomach.

Buck, despite being exhausted, still needs an hour or so to wind down before he sleeps, so he opens up his phone and starts scrolling through the recommended articles on his home page.

“Don't stay up too late,” Tommy tells him, voice muffled from where it's pressed against the pillow.

Buck smiles, reaching over to flick the light off. “When do I ever do that?”

Tommy makes a noise of doubt, already halfway asleep and Buck feels a sharp fondness run through him at it. He loves his boyfriend so much.

“Goodnight babe,” Buck tells him, reaching over to kiss him and Tommy manages to get enough energy to meet him on the lips.

“‘night Evan,” Tommy replies, before kissing him once again and Buck savours the taste. “Love you.”

“Love you too.”

Buck pulls away, hearing Tommy’s breathing soon even out, and he finds an article on comb jellies that catches his attention.

They can apparently fuse into one being—not just visually, but their nervous and digestive systems become one as well—and scientists have been trying to use it in modern medicine. It’s really interesting, and Buck ends up going on another spiral about other animals that have been used in modern medicine and different sea creatures' effect on science in general.

At some point, Tommy starts to snore and Buck smiles to himself. He’s sure one day it’ll get old, but for now he treasures each and every time he gets to hear it.

It's nice to hear him beside him. It makes him feel more at home; the constant ache of loneliness that is buried deep within his chest is soothed by it.

He's really grateful for Tommy. He'll forever be grateful for him staying, for him making them work, even after all their ups and downs in their first year of dating.

He knows he'd survive without Tommy (he had to for months), but life is just so much more full with him in it.

Buck's happier with him. He feels so much more at peace with himself and everything.

He gets the urge to kiss Tommy, even though he knows he's sleeping, and he rolls over, placing a gentle kiss on his cheek.

Tommy hums in his sleep and Buck freezes, worried he woke him, but he settles a moment later and the snores return.

Buck feels a yawn call to him and he supposes he should try to sleep too. He doesn’t want to spend their entire day together tomorrow exhausted.

He puts his phone away and then slides down further under the covers, scooching over to wrap himself around Tommy who instinctively leans into him.

Buck breathes in the smell of Tommy, pressing into him and allowing himself to just enjoy the moment, before he feels himself pulled under into the comforting darkness.

ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 🛌⋆.ೃ࿔*:・

Tommy wakes slowly and peacefully.

It’s always much more of a relaxing wake up whenever he’s with Evan. His body just… feels more at ease around him.

It's still dark outside, but he can see the navy blue already shifting to a lighter shade and he can hear the birds start to chirp out their good morning song as well.

He watches out the window for a few moments, giving his brain some time to wake up. It’s just him, the birds, and Evan.

Evan.

It’s been months since they’ve gotten back together and still Tommy can’t believe he gets to wake up with Evan by his side.

He rolls over to look at him. Evan’s still deep in sleep, chest steadily rising and falling and Tommy simply watches him for a while.

Tommy doesn't think this'll ever get old.

It's nice. Not waking up alone.

Tommy’s eyes trace the fly away hairs, the curve of his lips, the wrinkles on his forehead. Every little thing that makes Evan, Evan

Tommy is so in love with him, it's kind of crazy.

It used to be terrifying. Well, it still is, but Tommy’s worked on the fear a lot, and while it’s still there, it’s a lot more manageable. And Tommy has a lot more faith in the two of them than he did before.

The fear is worth it. Every difficult conversation, every moment of heartbreak, has been worth these moments, worth the fact that Tommy gets to come home to Evan and wrap him in his arms and hold him for as long as he likes.

Evan suddenly makes a noise that's a mix between a hum and a squeak and Tommy has to hold his breath to stop himself from reacting at how adorable it is.

Evan shifts in his sleep, instinctively moving closer to Tommy, and Tommy feels a warm fondness and pure adoration run through him.

Evan is too cute for his own good.

Tommy finally caves to his inner urge to reach out to him, and so he leans in, kissing Evan on the nose.

He rests his forehead against Evan’s for a moment, hand coming to rest in his curls, and then finally he leans away. He reaches over to his nightstand and grabs the novel he started the previous week, before settling back in next to Evan.

He was going to go make breakfast for the two of them, but with Evan snuggling in closer, he doesn't want to leave him just yet.

They have all day off, he can make them breakfast later on.

For now, he's content to enjoy the morning, reading his novel and leaning into the warmth of Evan by his side.
