Work Text:

Going through portals to different Hyrules is always a new experience. Each Hyrule has something unique, something that Sky hasn’t seen before. Which probably isn’t saying much considering he grew up on Sky Islands far away from the mysteries of the surface and only during his adventure did he discover new things. It feels like each thing is a new discovery.

New foods, new people, new species, new everything.

It’s his first time experiencing Wild’s Hyrule. The others have been there before, but Sky is the most recent addition to the group of time traveling Heroes. Everyone was separated apart after this most recent portal. Leaving just him and Wild to explore the vast wilderness in search of the others.

Sky trails behind the smaller hero as they climb up a ridiculously tall hill. Finding that his gaze keeps wandering to different spots as he finds himself again in awe of all of the new things he can see, smell, and hear. Watching birds flit around through the trees brings a small smile to Sky’s face. Living life is truly a blessing. He’ll have to draw these birds and show them to Zelda and Groose when he gets back home.

The weather outside is nice, and the air is fresh when he breathes in. A small breeze rustles his hair and he finds his eyes closing briefly. Longing- not for the first time- to fly again and for the rush of the wind to be faster. Having the fall rip air from his lungs once more. It’ll be one of the first things he does when he gets back home. Flying comes second to seeing and kissing Zelda.

When Sky opens his eyes to make sure he didn’t drift too far behind Wild, he sees Wild walking towards an area where there are a lot of apple trees. This detour leads to them taking a break from the hike up the hill to grab some of the apples. Wild shows Sky the skill of climbing trees without any roots or vines to grab hold of. It’s not too difficult, and he does find it fun, but it is something new. A skill that he plans on honing. It’ll come in handy later.

Returning to the hike does cause Sky a little bit of dread. He’d be lying if he said that his joints didn’t ache, but Wild did say that this hill is special and is a good meeting point for everyone. Luckily, it’s not too much later that they get to the top of the hill. There is a beautiful pond and a tree with pink leaves. The sight alone brings a smile to Sky’s face as Wild leads him to sit beneath the tree. Which… just so happens to be a perfect napping spot. The thought is enticing, especially after having hiked up this tall hill. However, Wild has different plans. The resident Cook slices apart a few of the apples and they happily eat together. Relaxing in the shade of the tree.

The silence between them is a comfortable one. Neither of them really need to talk to understand each other. Sky does enjoy the quiet, but pleasant presence of Wild. Some of the others can be rather rowdy, and Sky finds it harder to relax with so many other people around him, but Wild is different. A soothing presence as though sitting in the forest is the aura he gives off always.

Still resisting the urge to nap, Sky pulls out a little journal and flips to a blank page. Deciding to spend a little of their resting time sketching the cute little birds he saw earlier so he can show them to Zelda. Then, when those sketches are done he decides to sketch this beautiful area that Wild brought him to as they wait for the others to find them.

All too soon, the sun is slowly setting on the horizon, and the longer Sky sits, the heavier his eyes become. Until he finds himself setting the book in his lap and his eyes closing. He doesn’t Dream, which is a rare escape from the prophetic Sights that usually plague him. Instead, he wakes to being slightly shaken. His exhausted eyes peeling open to see Wild smiling at him gently. The other hero brings a single finger to his lips to indicate remaining quiet before very slowly moving to where Sky can see the clearing again.

Only this time, it’s filled with glowing blue creatures- bunnies if Sky remembers the name correctly- and a huge glowing blue creature that is staring at him and Wild. If Wild weren’t here, he thinks that the sight might’ve scared him a little, even though none of the creatures seem hostile. His friend’s calm presence makes it clear that there’s nothing to worry about and Sky can take the time to really soak in the moment. The glow of the area in the moonlight, the moon reflecting off of the water, the creatures calmly relaxing around them, and the soothing sounds of the night.

Sky glances down at the incomplete sketch of the clearing in his lap and slowly moves his hands to grab his sketching supplies. Wild doesn’t stop him, so he assumes that it’s okay as he captures the moment. The glowing bunnies and the large, majestic creature he doesn’t know the name of- not that he needs to know to understand how special this moment is- and he plans to add the glow and colors with watercolors later. This will be a beautiful thing to show Zelda and Groose when he returns to his time.

A soft smile touches Sky’s face as he watches the bunnies move and the creature accepting the presence of the two heroes as it deems that they won’t harm anything. He’ll have to thank Wild for this wonderful moment later, for now, they can sit in comfortable silence and enjoy the peace.
