Work Text:

It was another one of those nights where the eldest pair had the chance to get away together. Just an hour outside Seoul, away from the bustling city streets and lights, they settled in the countryside for the time-being in a rented home that overlooked a lake that reflected the dark starry night with bottles of their favourite alcoholic beverages.

It was almost perfect.

Yeonjun was cutely mumbling away about whatever came to mind while soobin happily listened and watched. His head was swaying, his lips were pouted and his face flushed. His eyes were cutely doe eyed and sparkly. But something caught soobin’s full attention.

« Soobin-ah…I love you.. » it was softly whispered, which soobin just barely caught but his breath caught in his throat anyway.

« Wh-what? » he tilted his head, staring at yeonjun with a somewhat baffled expression.

The older of the two gasps as he looks in the opposite direction, spotting a cat and a dog playing together a couple metres away. He got up and walked off, watching with interest, leaving behind a stunned soobin.

« Wait—yeonjun-hyung! Wait! » he got up and quickly followed after him, stumbling slightly since he was tipsy. He fell into step beside the drunk man. « jun-hyung, what did you say earlier? » he questioned, somewhat desperate for a clear answer. “I don’t know..what did I say?” Yeonjun clicked his tongue against his teeth as he slightly tilt his head, distracted by various things. The cat and dog. Remembering what it was he said. Soobin’s adorable expression and soft looking lips. Hm.

“Ahh..right..I love you soobin.” He smiled innocently, as if he hadn’t just sent an arrow through soobin’s heart and planted himself in the very same wound.

“Hyung..” soobin trailed off, watching as yeonjun once again got distracted as the cat and dog neared, getting to work in calling them over to pet them. Soobin was speechless, he didn’t know what to say, much less do. The drunk was set in petting furry animals, and quite frankly, soobin needed to process the words he’d been told.

He rubbed his face, sighing as he trudged back over to the chairs they’d been sitting on, plopping down on the blanket in front of the chairs as he stared up at the sky. He could hear yeonjun in the distance, calling over the cat and dog successfully with giggles of joy as he cooed over them. Was it really possible that the Choi yeonjun liked—no, loved, him? He couldn’t help it as his lips turned upward into a grin, his heart pounding in his chest. He mulled over it a bit longer, his eyes darting from star to star, trying his best to find stars that were possibly constellations.

Yeonjun, from where he sat a few metres away, was completely aware of what he had said. He glanced over at soobin, who seemed to handle the drunken confession well. A wet sensation brought his attention away from the other man, looking down at his hand. He smiled softly when he saw the cat pawing at him, asking for pets he assumed, so he delivered.

The dog happily sat in his lap, accepting scratches with a wagging tail. He glanced over at soobin again, he was still in the same position, only looking over at him. Their eyes met and for a moment, yeonjun felt completely sober. They both exchange a smile, not moving yet from their positions but maintaining eye contact.

It wasn’t long until the dog and cat decided to move, making their way to soobin with curiosity. Yeonjun giggles softly and gets up, walking over with a bounce in his step. He settles down on the blanket, reaching for the bottle of whiskey and glass, pouring himself some more as he listened to soobin praise and love the animals.

He drank from the glass, the liquid going down with a nice burn as he set aside the whiskey bottle. “Yeonjun-hyung, I love you too.” He freezes momentarily, setting down his cup before looking at soobin, who was already looking right at him. “Really?” He asks, blinking. “Tss, hyung, of course. How can I not love my pretty hyung?” Soobin replies with a grin. Yeonjun rolls his eyes playfully, but the blush settling over his cheeks and ears couldn’t hide the delight he’d felt from that. “Yahh, you have an advantage. You know I can’t resist you, it’s practically a cheap move to win me over.” He pouts. Soobin laughs softly, finding yeonjun adorable as heck. “It worked, didn’t it?” The younger of the two smugly asks, knowing it had, in fact, worked.

“You’re so annoying.” Yeonjun shakes his head with a small smile, looking at the reflection of the moon on the surface of the lake. “You love me either way.” Soobin grins proudly, lying back down, his gaze on the stars once again.

They went quiet. Sitting comfortably in each others presence’ while each petting one of the furry friends they’d acquired. The gravity of the mutual confessions began to set in, but they both pushed away the negative aspects of this unfolding situation. Positively, they could finally engage in much more than friendly touches and words without the fear of overstepping. And they could be. Which was better than anything they both figured.

Yeonjun shakes his head. He was too drunk to stay focused on the subject. That would be an issue to figure out later, and a victory to celebrate forevermore. Soobin was possibly his anytime soon, as long as any of the two asked the other out. But for now—“hyung..I want to ask..can we ,maybe, hug?” Yeonjun looks over at the younger man, smiling softly with a nod. He’d give him anything he ever asked for, without a single question or thought.

They moved in tandem with each other as they embraced one another, adjusting a bit to sit more comfortably. Ending in yeonjun sitting on soobin’s lap, his arms wrapped around the tall frame of the love of his life, his head resting on his shoulder with his nose buried in the crook of his neck that smelt of his cologne and body wash, the scent of his hair falling into the mix of soobin.

They sat together like that for a while, blissfully enjoying the hug. The cat somehow managed to squeeze in between them, the dog remaining near soobin’s thighs for the warmth they emitted. It was the perfect moment. Just absolutely and utterly perfect, it was terrifying to think of letting go of even a second of the precious moment.

Although drunk and tipsy, they knew this would be a day they’d remember for a long time.

“Achoo!”

“Haha, hyung, I think we should go in. It’s getting cold.”

“Can we bring our friends too?”

“Of course.”

So, they went in. Each holding one of the furry friends, leaving behind their mess to clean tomorrow morning when they were less drunk and tired.

Notes:

Did you enjoy? I hope not for your sake and mine, that wasn’t the most decent.
