Work Text:

Louis' head was reeling. One moment he's gallivanting through catacombs searching for the spear that pierced the side of Christ. Then he learns the truth of his parentage, his mother, the driving force in his life, the reason he came to this accursed island in the first place had stolen him as an infant! Furthermore, his father was Lord Mortimer, a parasitic Daemon. A commonly vilified creature which apparently he was too.

And most devastating of all, the man he loved had overheard it all, and tried to kill him for it.

He gazed upon his desolate lover, sobbing openly Infront of them. His chest throbbed as if Jacques has actually taken the shot. All instincts screamed to run to him and offer some pitiful comfort, but how could he? He was one of the wretched creatures he so loathed, that caused him so much pain.

Mortimer was saying something about leaving the island but Louis could only stand motionless, useless, pathetic before him. Incapable of even consoling the one he held most dear.

Jacques slowly lifted his head to look at him, eyes glistening with tears. Then, his body trembling with the effort he tried to rise.

Something inside Louis snapped. He surged towards him. He resolved himself: if he truly was some supernatural creature, he'd use his abilities to protect the man he loved.

He hoisted one of Jacques burly arms over his shoulder. Any other occasion he may have enjoyed the sensation, savoured the warm weight upon him, drawn comfort from it like he had in the past. But now it was only a bitter reminder of what he was about to lose.

"I'll do everything I can to protect you" he whispered, leaning in close to his lover one final time "They'll never come looking for you again. Go far and live free, my love".

He helped him to his feet, and they plodded towards the door. Then Louis, slowly agonisingly, slipped out from under his arm.

Jacques turned and locked eyes with him. Louis felt sick. This isn't how it should have ended. This was the last good thing in his life.

As Louis thoughts spiralled into despair, Jacques thrust the door open and marched through. The echoing slam behind him was the only thing of his Louis had left.
