Chapter Text

School's out for summer, and Sasha leans against the wall, watching cars pull away. Her thoughts drifted to ice cream, barbecues, and parties.

"Hey there, Sash!"

She turned just in time to see Historia sprinting up the walkway, blonde hair bouncing.

"Waiting for your Papa again?" Historia asked, stopping a little breathless.

"Yeah," Sasha replied with a shrug, trying to play it off. "Late as usual."

"Well, I'd offer you a lift," Historia said, brushing a stray hair out of her face, "but Ymir's picking me up today."

"Oh? What's the occasion?"

Historia's eyes flickered to the pavement, and a shy blush colored her cheeks. A grin spread across Sasha's face.

"Well, if you must know. She's… taking me out for dinner."

Sasha let out a whoop, springing up and grabbing her in a hug that nearly lifted her off the ground. They spun in a dizzy circle until Historia's laughter broke through the hum of the parking lot.

"I'm so happy for you!" Sasha said, setting her down.

"Okay, calm down," Historia giggled, smoothing her shirt and skirt.

"Sorry, sorry. It's just—you and Ymir? Finally." Sasha swayed from foot to foot, as if she could barely contain the news inside her.

"Moving on, did you get my invitation?"

Sasha dug into her pocket and yanked out a glossy gold-lettered card: Reiss Summer Party 2016. She held it high like she'd just drawn Excalibur.

"Everything is ready for my grand trek to the legendary ancestral Reiss mansion, home of the mighty—"

"I'll take that as a yes," Historia cut in, eyes darting to the onlookers glancing over at Sasha's booming voice.

"As long as there's food, it's a yes from me," Sasha said with a wide grin, picturing the might feast as foretold.

"Speaking of having an appetite… got anyone you're craving to bring along?" Historia spoke in a low, fake seductive voice, her sly smile hinting she wasn't talking about food anymore.

Sasha gave her the everyday odd look of a dog tilting its head slightly in confusion, as this was something Historia rarely did with her.

"What do you mean?" Sasha replied innocently.

"Well, how do I put this?" She placed her hand on her chin as if she were in deep thought. "Mikasa is with Eren, Annie is with Bertolt, and Ymir is with me. Sooo..."

"So?" Sasha tilted her head.

"What about you and Connie?" She raised her eyebrows.

"What about Connie?" Sasha squinted back.

"How about you and Connie come to the party together as a couple?" Histroia bluntly asked with a sigh.

"WHAT? Are you serious? Nah...!" Sasha snorted, much to her friend's confusion.

"Me and Baldy are like family. Always have been. Never dates!" Sasha pulled a yuck face.

"But I thought you and Connie would make a great couple," Histroia replied, a tad disappointed her head-canon had fizzled out in front of her eyes.

"Nah. I'm not being nasty, but Connie's the opposite of my type - he'd be the first to say so."

Suddenly, Historia's grin turns mischievous.

"What are you thinking, Ms. Reiss?!" Sasha asked, narrowing her eyes.

"I'm just wondering… who exactly is your type?"

OH OH.

Sasha knew Historia was almost a perfect matchmaker, always pairing people perfectly. Sasha had seen it done with the likes of Hannah with Franz or Marlowe with Hitch. She knew it was only a matter of time before Historia found her a match, and watched as the "human matchmaking calculator" nodded toward a crowd.

"What about Armin Arlert?"

Sasha straightened up and spotted Armin walking through the crowd with Eren. His fair hair, blue, concentrating eyes. He left the crowd, heading her way. He listened to Eren's latest rant until he caught her eye and mouthed, "Hi". She nods back, heart skipping as he walks the sidewalk home.

Historia nudged her.

"Well, am I right or am I right?" The petite blonde asked her blushing friend.

"I... I don't see it."

"Well, you're always hanging out with him after school."

"That's to help with my shitty homework." Sasha fired back.

A thought finally entered her tinker-box: HOMEWORK! QUICK! CHANGE THE SUBJECT!

"Speaking of which, Mr Shadis has dumped a pile of it on me just as I was about to escape. That resentful, bald asshole. I'll never have fun with that hanging over me all summer break!"

"Well, you can always ask Mr. Arlert for a helping hand, can you?" Historia said knowingly.

Damn! She knows!

Before Sasha could respond reasonably, a jeep pulled up next to the two girls. The driver's tinted window slid down smoothly, revealing a familiar freckled brunette wearing shades.

"Ready for a ride, short stuff?" Ymir asked with a smirk.

Historia giggled, blushing, and turned to Sasha.

"Well, that's my cue. I'll text you later. Remember - you can bring ANYONE along to the party." She teased.

Historia hopped into the vehicle. Once in, the jeep sped away, leaving Sasha alone.

Pulling out her phone:

SASHA - Where are you?

PAPA BEAR - Stuck in traffic. 5-10 min tops. :(

PAPA BEAR - I have ice cream. :)

SASHA - :)

She tucked the phone away, but her gaze drifted back to the road where Armin had walked minutes before, the afternoon sun still warm on her cheeks.
