Work Text:

Matthew awoke to the sound of beeping from his alarm clock. He squinted before rubbing his eyes then shut off the infernal device. Matthew looked over at the time and noticed that it was super early in the morning. He let out a tired sigh before turning to look at the other person sharing the bed with him, a head of silver poking out of the blankets.

A's brows furrowed as she hummed and mumbled something incoherent before snuggling into him. Matthew couldn't help but smile to himself as he reached down to stroke her silver tresses. He hated getting up early in the morning as A was clingy, despite her otherwise normally composed behavior whenever she was awake.

"A," Matthew mumbled, voice hoarse from both sleep and disuse. "I gotta get up and get ready for work."

A's response to that was to wrap her arms tighter around him with a groan. "No don't leave."

"Babe, I have to otherwise I'll be late."

"Call in sick, Matthew. Stay here with me."

"I don't think I have any more sick days left. I've probably used them all up by now."

Matthew lost track how many times A managed to guilt him into staying home with her, having to call his boss to claim he was sick and to use his PTO. He sat up, bringing A with him before she moved and nearly sat in Matthew's lap with her head leaning against his shoulder. He let out an amused huff at her bedhead then kissed her temple while rubbing her back, being absolutely careful not to tangle his fingers into A's hair. She loosened her grip on him enough for Matthew to pry her arms off and lay her back against the bed then pulled the covers up to her shoulders.

Mind still addled with sleep, A grumbled and nuzzled into her pillow while Matthew stayed a little longer as he waited for her to go back to sleep. He yawned and stretched as he got up from the bed, scratching at his abs and belly. Matthew usually wore a shirt to bed but A would steal his shirts sometimes and sleep in them so he'd go to bed shirtless. Grabbing the brush and hair tie from the nightstand he went into the bathroom and took his morning shower, dressed and brushed his hair before putting it up into the usual messy ponytail he kept it in. Stepping out of the bathroom, Matthew walked into the kitchen and up to the counter, watching as the coffee pot started filling up. A always made sure it was timed so Matthew had coffee whenever he got up and didn't have to bother with making it himself even though he didn't mind making some manually.

He leaned against the counter and closed his eyes while waiting for the pot to finish. He jumped a little the moment he felt someone grab his arm then opened his eyes to see a tired A wearing his shirt from the previous night, strands of silver hair sticking up haphazardly around her head. Matthew couldn't help but feel his heart ache at the sight of her before holding his arms out in an inviting gesture. No words were needed to convey what A wanted as her actions did the talking for her. She took the invitation immediately and nuzzled herself into his torso while wrapping her arms around his firm waist.

In response to this, Matthew wrapped his own arms around her and rested his chin on her head. He closed his eyes and relaxed into the new position. A didn't even ask but Matthew already wanted to take a day off just to be with her a little bit longer. By this time the coffee maker had finished brewing, making A huff that the moment was interrupted. She didn't fight it when Matthew picked her up bridal style and carried her back to their shared room.

She pouted as he tried to set her down and hung onto him like a spider monkey. Matthew had to bribe her with forehead kisses to make A let go of him, albeit reluctantly as she slowly trailed her hand down one of his arms to prolong the contact. He pressed a kiss to A's lips before stroking her cheek with his thumb. A kissed him back then settled herself against the pillows while Matthew finished getting ready with his morning routine.

Once dressed in casual attire, Matthew walked back into the bedroom and kissed A's forehead one more time, reaching down to brush away some rogue strands out of her face. She stirred but didn't wake up, likely already lost in the land of sleep. He merely smiled again as he stood up before walking out the room and closing the door behind himself, already missing his girlfriend just as soon as he left the house.
