Chapter Text

The morning was damp and rainy with grey skies up against a sunrise backdrop and a slight fog overtaking the roads of South Park. It was a semi rare sight to see in the small Colorado town in Park County, where the most weird and absurd thing could happen on any given day or night, rain or shine. But, as it currently stands, the day opened with a chilly and humid morning with nothing more extraordinary than the usual school morning.

In a neighborhood, like all the other neighborhoods in town where the houses were lined up and people were waking up and getting ready for the day, there was a two story house that looked just like the other houses in the neighborhood (except for the one story houses) that was home to Devon Byers and his parents, Kelly and Chris Byers. They were weird and idiots sometimes, which wasn’t abnormal for the adults, but seemingly pretty competent when it came to their kid, though a bit in a “we just want what’s best for our son” sort of way even though they don’t really pay attention to their kid, but nevertheless they did care about their son, even though they were negligent to a degree.

Devon ‘The new kid’ Byers woke up to the smell of damp and musky air pouring from the small crack in the open window, and his room a usual mess, with a pile of clothes in the corner, papers and notebooks over his desk, the mountain of plushies near the toy box at the end of his bed and clothes spilling out the drawers. His pet cat woke up on his pile of clothes and his fishes were swimming around in a newly cleaned fish tank. He was so groggy and sweaty and tired that he barely even register the sound of his mom’s voice and a hard knock on the door.

”Hon, time to get up. You don’t want to miss your first day back to school.” Devon’s mom said, sipping on her tea with a light smile on her face. It took him a moment to get up, blinking his eyes opened, feeling the harsh warmth of the sun’s rays on his pale skin. He sat up after his mom left, glancing over at the half opened door and the sound of buzzing in his ears. It was going to be one of those mornings. He groaned as he get out of bed and started getting ready for another day in this little mountain town.
