Family Ties (and all of their strangeness)

Summary:

Izuku’s dad is back for parent-teacher conferences and a day of fun father-son bonding, but everyone freaks out upon seeing the pair because his dad… is All For One? And he’s actually a good father?

Notes:

Happy holiday exchange, I really hope you enjoy reading!!

Title from Family Ties by Bastille! I found it very fitting :)

Quick timeline notes: This takes place sometime in early September a few weeks after Kamino, and about a week after the second Japanese school term starts. Just pretend that Izuku starts interning with Nighteye a week later instead of this week (yes I did way too much research into the timeline for this) :’)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Late at night found Tomura sitting at the bar, sipping on a drink when he heard the sound of something like a faint splattering behind him. Instantly, he was on high alert. The other League members were out on a reconnaissance mission, and they shouldn’t be back just yet.

As the sound grew louder for a brief moment, Tomura did his best to pinpoint where it was coming from. He gave himself another second before he whirled around, hand outstretched, lunging for the source of the noise.

Despite his eagerness to strike, Tomura found himself halting as he came face-to-face with the source of the noise. The splattering came from a familiar black goo, and as it grew larger, a low chuckle sounded from within.

“Sensei!” Tomura exclaimed, retracting his hand. He watched as the man emerged fully from the substance, looking undeniably familiar but… wearing a new face?

“Tomura,” the man greeted, and the voice was undeniably Sensei’s.

Tomura paused. “Wait, how did you escape Tartarus? And what’s up with the new face?”

Sensei smiled. “Does it look good? I had someone restore it for me before I returned here.” He seemed uncharacteristically proud.

“Yes, of course! You look younger than I would have expected, and completely unrecognizable compared to… well, your complete lack of a face before,” Tomura mused.

Sensei grimaced. “Yes, that was less than desirable. I had to rectify the situation, since I have an important event coming up where I’ll need to appear as my civilian self.”

Tomura bluescreened. “You have a civilian persona? What on earth could you possibly need that for?”

“I could have sworn I’d informed you of this before,” Sensei frowned. “Well, no matter,” he dismissed with a wave. “I do indeed have a civilian identity. Although I haven’t been able to permanently restore my appearance until now, I’ve been able to make shorter appearances with the help of an illusion quirk.”

“Of course you’d have such a useful quirk,” Tomura said, nodding in admiration and drinking some water.

“Yes, well, I actually only came back to see you for a short time. I called my son earlier, and he’s expecting me to be home soon,” Sensei added, seemingly as an afterthought.

As Tomura inhaled, he really regretted taking that sip of his water. He started choking, which when combined with trying to process that revelation, was not a good state to be in.

Sensei patted Tomura on the back. “It’s okay, Tomura. I’ll come back to see you again soon,” he said, misunderstanding the reason for Tomura’s reaction.

Tomura wheezed as tears sprung to his eyes. “Sensei, what? Since when do you have a child?”

Sensei looked at him oddly. “You’ve met him before on several occasions, Tomura. Are you alright?”

Tomura felt like he was going crazy even more so than normal. “Who is it?” He asked, utterly befuddled. There was nobody besides the other League members he usually had more than one interaction with.

“His name is Izuku! Tomura, do you not remember me ever telling you about my pride and joy? I talk about him all the time!” Sensei exclaimed.

Now that he thought about it, Tomura did recall something like that, but he thought… Actually, he didn’t know what “pride and joy” he thought Sensei was going on about. Probably a bunch of nonsense that was promptly tuned out.

Wait, who was this “Izuku” anyway? Tomura thought it did sound familiar, had they worked together before? Izuku, Izuku, Izu– Tomura froze as the realization hit him like a truck. “The little green-haired hero brat?”

“Indeed, that’s him! He did not inherit my white hair, I’m afraid,” Sensei said, a little mournfully.

“But he’s a hero!” Tomura exclaimed, finding the idea ludicrous. The son of the most fearsome villain of all time, a hero ?

Sensei grimaced. “Yes, his dream is to become a hero ,” he said, gritting the word out, “which is not the career path I would have encouraged him to pursue, but what sort of father would I be if I didn’t support my son to the fullest, no matter what he wants to do?”

Tomura wiped a tear from his eye. “Wow, Sensei, I think that’s the nicest thing I’ve ever heard you say!”

Sensei smiled once more. “Well, I do love my son dearly. Anyway, this brings me back to my aforementioned point. I’m afraid I have to depart now, as I will be returning home today. I will be attending Izuku’s parent-teacher conferences this weekend, and I’m looking forward to spending some time with him.”

Shigaraki was left standing there, mouth gaping like a fish, as Sensei once again used Warping. The man disappeared in the goo, and Tomura sat down to process everything he had just learned.

Not even a minute later, like deja vu, the sound of a portal opening could be heard behind Tomura. This time, though, he recognized it as one of Kurogiri’s. He turned around to see the League stepping out.

“We’re back! Did you miss us?” Toga exclaimed, skipping over. “Whoa, what’s up with you? You look like you accidentally dusted, like, three controllers in a row.”

Tomura wasn’t sure what his face looked like, but it must have looked bad if the entire rest of the League was staring at him like that. Finding his words again, he rose to his feet and laughed a little hysterically. “You guys aren’t going to believe this.”

Izuku woke up to his alarm, bright and early despite it being Sunday. He was excited for today, because his dad was going to take him to parent teacher conferences. He had come back from a business trip in America a couple days earlier and seemed eager to spend a full day with Izuku, who had gotten permission to come home from the dorms this weekend.

Izuku had missed his dad recently, and he was ecstatic to be spending time with him today. They always called biweekly whenever his dad was away on his long business trips, and his dad loved hearing about what was going on in Izuku’s life, but he had been somewhere without cell service for the last three weeks so they hadn’t talked in a while.

Honestly, Izuku had some suspicions. What kind of job made you go off the grid for three weeks? Although it raised some questions, Izuku didn’t really think too hard about it. His dad was a kind person and really loved him, so there was absolutely no way it could be anything bad. Maybe government work?

A knock on the door pulled Izuku out of his musings. “Coming!” He called, scrambling to get dressed.

As he opened his door, he saw his dad waiting outside. “Izuku!” He exclaimed, pulling the boy into a hug and ruffling his hair.

“Good morning, dad!” Izuku smiled, returning the hug. He was just so happy to see his dad again, he could feel tears forming in the corners of his eyes.

Sensing this, his dad pulled away and laughed. “Don’t start the waterworks now, we have a fun day ahead of us! Think of the ice cream!”

When Izuku was in elementary school, before his dad had to start taking longer business trips, they had a tradition to go to the same ice cream parlor every weekend. It was a small place with a nice elderly owner who made all of the ice cream from scratch. Izuku’s father had taught him at a young age that it was a good thing to support small shop owners, and oftentimes Izuku caught him muttering something about orchestrating the downfall of big corporations. He appreciated his dad’s strong moral convictions, even if he might have been taking the joke a bit too far.

Anyway, one of the things the pair planned on doing after conferences was going back to the old ice cream shop. Izuku could already taste the blueberry pie flavor that awaited him. When he was younger, his dad would always joke that if he kept eating so much of it, his hair would start turning blue.

“I cooked breakfast if you’re hungry before we have to leave,” Izuku’s dad said, and Izuku realized that while he’d been caught up in the memory, his dad had guided him to the kitchen.

“It smells like American breakfast!” Izuku exclaimed, noticing the smell of sausage, eggs, and something slightly sweet like pancakes.

His dad nodded. “I figured since it’s been a while since I’ve been home, you haven’t had one of these recently.”

Izuku's mom preferred to stick to making Japanese-style breakfasts, because she didn’t always have time to go the extra fifteen minutes to the larger store that carried international foods and then experiment with recipes. His dad, however, spent so much time in America for work that he picked up on the best ways to make American comfort foods.

“Thanks! It tastes delicious!” Izuku said, having sat down and started eating quickly. They had an early conference slot to get to, since most of his classmates had theirs yesterday and there were only a few available slots today.

Izuku’s dad sat down and grabbed his own plate. “I’m looking forward to hearing all about what you do in school,” he said after a few bites. “Hearing about your hero training activities sounds so interesting.”

Izuku grinned. “So much has happened in the last few weeks, and I’ve got some new hero moves I can’t wait for you to hear about!”

“Plus, you can tell me all the exciting industry secrets,” his father winked.

Izuku laughed as he put his plate away. “I’m still a first year student, I don’t know about any of that stuff quite yet.”

His father followed suit. “Ok, are you ready to head over to your school? You can lead the way to the train, since I haven’t traveled this way in a while,” he told Izuku, who had put on his shoes at lightning speed.

“Alright, follow me!” Izuku replied, bouncing in excitement as he ran out the door.

Yagi leaned back in his chair with a tired sigh after he said goodbye to Ashido and her parents. “Who’s the next conference?”

Aizawa checked his list and let out a sigh of his own. “Your favorite, who also likes to make my life a living hell.”

Yagi looked at Aizawa, affronted. “Midoriya’s not my favorite! I can’t be a good teacher if I play favorites, can I?”

“And yet, you knew exactly who I was talking about,” Aizawa rolled his eyes.

Whatever Yagi was going to say next was cut off abruptly as Midoriya and his dad walked into the office.

“Hi All Might! Aizawa-sensei!” Midoriya chirped.

Yagi shot to his feet, jaw hanging open, too busy coughing up blood to answer.

Aizawa breathed a greeting at the boy and turned to look at All Might, eyebrows raised. “Are you alright? Do you need to step out for a moment?” He asked in his usual monotone, but Yagi knew him well enough by now to detect the barest hint of concern.

“Here, All Might!” Midoriya cried, lunging at him with a handkerchief at the ready.

Yagi accepted the object with shaking hands, but his eyes were frozen on the boy’s father. The father who looked suspiciously like his mortal enemy, the greatest supervillain in Japan, All For One.

He closed his eyes, which he was sure were practically popping out of his head, and took a deep breath.

Letting it out, he looked up and realized all eyes were on him. “I’m fine, Aizawa.” He plastered his signature grin on his face. “It’s nice to meet you, Midoriya-san!”

Because his eyes had to be deceiving him. Pack it up, Toshinori! Good thing you retired already, because you’ve officially gone senile! He laughed internally, pushing down the rising panic that threatened to overwhelm him. Because there was absolutely no way that Midoriya’s father was actually All For One! That villain was locked away in Tartarus where he belonged! Never mind that Tsukauchi had called him an hour ago, leaving a voicemail about something to do with “urgent business” and a “brief malfunction” in the security system at the prison.

Because that had to be unrelated! Midoriya-san was just an unfortunate doppelganger to the man All Might had devoted his life to defeating. They could all laugh it off and have a good time. Besides, Midoriya had spent the last week raving excitedly about his dad whenever he had the chance. There was no way that such a wonderfully kind-sounding man could be anything like All For One.

But that didn’t explain the way Midoriya-san looked at Yagi. It sent a shiver down his spine. “You all can take a seat,” Yagi told the Midoriyas, sitting back down himself, determined to ignore his crazy thoughts. “We can begin with the conference now, right, Aizawa?”

“Right,” Aizawa nodded, shaking himself out of his stupor at All Might’s suddenly odd behavior. “First things first…”

Unfortunately, the longer the conference went on, the more certain Yagi was that his initial impression of Midoriya-san was correct. Whenever he met the other man’s eyes, there was a smug glint in them, like he was gloating about the fact that All Might couldn’t do anything about him being there.

However, Yagi was also immensely confused. This man was way too supportive of his son’s hero endeavors. He seemed genuinely interested in everything Izuku was doing, which seemed uncharacteristic for the most powerful villain in history.

Yagi might have dismissed his suspicions yet again if not for the fact that his eye twitched ever so slightly whenever anyone mentioned the word “hero.” It was like he was trying his hardest to support his son’s dream, but couldn’t quite get over his hang-ups about heroes. Still, it was impressive that he was making such an effort to be a good father.

Yagi couldn’t help but wonder where All For One learned to be such a good parent. Lost in his thoughts, he jerked upright when Aizawa cleared his throat. “All Might, any input?”

All Might remembered he taught hero classes, and was indeed supposed to contribute to this conference. “Yes, of course. Young Midoriya is excelling in his hero training, so there is much to be said.”

Midoriya blushed while All For One smiled. “I can’t wait to hear about everything,” he said, ruffling his son’s hair.

Katsuki was sitting outside of Aizawa-sensei’s office with his parents, waiting for his conference to start. He didn’t want to come, but this was a required check-in for all of the students and their parents. They were going to go over any updates relating to dorm life in addition to the usual training talk.

Letting out a huff, Katsuki leaned back in his seat. Whoever was in the conference slot before him was running a few minutes over, which pissed him off. He had plans to go train with Shitty Hair after this, and he didn’t want to be late.

Lost in his thoughts, Katsuki startled when the office door opened. He looked up to see Deku and his dad step out, and sat up straighter. Finally, they were done. The fact that it was Deku’s conference did explain why it was taking so long, though.

A voice broke through Katsuki’s thoughts. “Thanks for taking such good care of my son, it was a pleasure meeting you.”

Katsuki did a double take. He would recognize that voice anywhere. It was the voice that had haunted his nightmares for the last few weeks, a voice that was still so fresh in his mind. And it was coming from… Deku’s dad?

While Katsuki was losing his mind, Deku spotted him and waved, bouncing over cheerfully. “Hey, Kacchan!”

Katsuki yanked Deku to the bench he was sitting on a minute ago. “Deku, what the fuck?” he whisper-yelled.

Deku looked back in surprise. “Kacchan, what are you doing?”

Their parents had started talking in the background, with Deku’s dad reintroducing himself to the Bakugou parents, seeing as they hadn’t seen him in almost a decade. After the two boys had stopped hanging out, only Inko had really kept up talking to the old hag.

Katsuki squeezed Deku’s arm even harder. “I should ask you the same thing! What are you doing with him?”

Deku gave him a look of confusion. “Kacchan, are you okay?” he asked slowly. “I’m at parent-teacher conferences with my dad, just like you?”

Katsuki glanced at his parents and saw his mom giving him the stink eye, so he reluctantly let go of Deku’s arm. “There’s no way in hell that’s your dad.”

The look on Deku’s face changed to concern. “But Kacchan, you’ve met my dad plenty of times before when we were younger! He looks pretty much the same, don’t you recognize him?”

Although the man did look the same as Katsuki remembered, was that not also strange? Shouldn’t he have aged more in ten years? Deku really must not be perceptive if he missed that. “Are you okay?” Katsuki asked, glaring at Deku suspiciously.

“Yeah, I’m great!” Deku exclaimed like an idiot. “My dad and I are just going out for a day of fun activities! We’re going to get ice cream first, remember that place we went to when I was little?”

Katsuki did remember joining Deku and his dad there once, and his stomach growled just thinking about it. He shook away the thought, forcing himself to focus on the matter at hand. He opened his mouth again, but he was interrupted by the villain fucker himself.

“Are you ready to go?” he called out to Deku. “I know I’m hungry for some ice cream right about now!”

Deku started walking away, and Katsuki happened to glance over at his dad. The fucker was staring right at him, and when Katsuki met his eyes, he gave a tiny little smirk that left Katsuki both seething and terrified.

“Bye, Kacchan!” Deku said, waving cheerfully over his shoulder as he and his dad neared the end of the hallway and turned the corner.

Katsuki was left spluttering incoherently after Deku and his supervillain father as his mom grabbed him by the arm and dragged him into the office.

Finally recovering a little from the huge bombshell that had just been dropped on him, Katsuki jerked his arm away from his mom. “Don’t grab me like that, you…”

Finally looking up, Katsuki saw All Might sitting next to Aizawa sensei, looking like he had just seen a ghost. And to be fair, he kind of had.

All Might met his eyes, and Katsuki immediately zoned in on the fact that the man knew exactly what he was thinking. Still, he voiced the thought running around inside his head.

“All Might– did you see– Deku’s–”

The pro snapped to attention, coming out of his apparent shock. “Yes, young Bakugou, I did see that.”

“And you’re just–?”

“I will deal with it as soon as I can. For now, let’s focus on your performance in school,” All Might said, forcing a smile.

Meanwhile, Aizawa was exchanging glances of confusion with Bakugou’s parents, all three wondering what was going on.

“…Okay then, let’s get started,” Aizawa gruffly announced. Why was everyone around him being so weird today?

“Hey, do you guys know why everyone is acting odd around Ninth today?” Banjo asked, gathering the attention of the other vestiges scattered around the void.

“Really, Daigoro? You have nothing better to do than hang on to every second of the day when Ninth is hanging out with his dad? Did your dad leave to go get milk and never come back?” Hikage, who was bouncing a ball against some invisible wall, teased.

“He’s not wrong though,” En spoke up. “People have been acting stranger than usual around Ninth today. Almost like they’re afraid of him.”

The other vestiges stared in silence, finding the idea outlandish. Then, from the back, Yoichi’s voice rang out.

“They’re not afraid of Ninth, they’re afraid of who he’s with.”

Six heads whipped around in unison to face him.“Yoichi, what do you know?” Kudou growled, immediately suspicious.

Yoichi looked around, receiving only confused faces in return. “Have none of you figured it out yet? Maybe if you all stopped making fun of Daigoro and actually looked at the face of the man with Ninth, you would know what’s going on.”

Banjo whispered, “But I still don’t know what’s going on?”

Hikage floated closer and patted his head. “It’s okay, nobody expects you to.”

As the rest of the vestiges started studying the man next to Ninth, Banjo choked. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?” he tried to smack Hikage, who only smirked.

Off to the side, Nana’s face turned ashen as she suddenly came to the conclusion that Yoichi had moments earlier. “All For One,” she whispered. “Ninth’s father is All For One.”

Chaos erupted from all around. Bruce shook Yoichi and shouted, “AND YOU DIDN’T TELL US? DID YOU KNOW THIS WHOLE TIME?”

“Of course not, you dimwit! I only just figured it out during the conference. Did Eighth’s face not tip you off that something was up?” Yoichi exclaimed indignantly.

“Toshi did look like his eyes were about to pop out of his head,” Nana recalled, giggling.

“His jaw dropped so hard that I thought it was going to Texas Smash right through the floor,” Banjo cackled.

“Hold on, I thought that All For One was still locked away in Tartarus?” En pointed out.

Kudou gave him a flat stare. “He’s the most powerful villain in history, and he’s got like a million quirks. I’m surprised it took the fucker this long to get out. At least it’s probably a sign that he isn’t as strong as he used to be.”

Everyone nodded in agreement.

“Wait a second,” Banjo interjected, “should we be more worried about how he’s currently walking the streets with Ninth?”

Nana paused, the reality of the situation settling in. “Oh my god. He’s Ninth’s dad. All For One is Ninth’s dad.”

“Does Ninth know about this?” Hikage wondered.

Kudou scoffed. “Of course not, the brat is so oblivious. He thinks his dad is so great, if All Might himself came to tell him the truth he wouldn’t believe him.”

“Ninth is a hero. We have no reason to doubt him like that,” Yoichi reassured, trying to stay positive.

The others winced, turning to look at the father-son duo. They were talking and laughing, looking like they were about to head into an ice cream shop.

“Do you guys think Ninth would be open to killing him?” Kudo huffed. “The world would be better off without him.”

Bruce smacked him upside the head. “If Ninth is going to be a hero, he can’t be going around murdering people. Besides, All For One seems to pose no threat to him, and Ninth absolutely adores him.”

Everyone fell silent, observing Izuku and his dad yet again. They were sitting on a bench now, All For One’s arm around his son’s shoulder. Izuku was laughing at something his dad was saying, and the vestiges felt a warm flood of affection from the young wielder.

En raised an eyebrow. “Ninth likes him too much to consider killing him, and he seems like an awfully good father to me.”

Yoichi sighed wistfully. “I wish my father was that good. Maybe he could have prevented my brother from turning evil. Wait a minute, where on earth did he learn such good parenting skills anyway?”

“Is All For One actually a better father figure than any of us had?” Banjo looked astounded.

“To be fair, most of our father figures died when we were young,” Bruce added dryly. “Either that, or we died young.”

“Um, guys, not to interrupt this touching moment, but shouldn’t we be trying to figure out a way to tell Ninth about his father’s identity?” Hikage interjected, sweating nervously. “No matter what he decides to do with that information, I feel like he deserves to know.”

“Aww, Hikage, are you just jealous because you didn’t have a dad?” Banjo asked mockingly, mirroring Hikage’s words from earlier.

Yoichi rolled his eyes as Hikage leveled a glare at Banjo. “Hikage is right. We should start brainstorming ways to get Ninth’s attention. He does deserve to know, and I won’t judge him for whatever course of action he decides to take or not take.”

“Alright,” Nana said, taking charge. “Who’s got ideas?”

Yagi waved to Ashido and her father as they walked out. The final conference of the day was pleasant, and Ashido was a promising young hero.

Aizawa leaned back in his chair, massaging his temples. “Alright, our work here is done. I’m going to go take a nap, you can go do whatever you need to do. Maybe prepare for 1-B’s conferences next week.”

He started to sink down to the floor to sleep, and Yagi grimaced. “Well, actually, we may not be able to rest quite yet.”

Aizawa, already under the desk, opened his eyes. “And why is that?”

Yagi thought for a moment and decided to just get it over with and break the bad news. “Midoriya’s father is All For One.”

Aizawa sat up so fast he banged his head on the desk. Yagi stifled a laugh. “You tell nobody,” the tired man said in an absolutely terrifying voice.

Yagi coughed. “You have my word.”

“Anyway, I must be hallucinating, because there is no way you just said what I thought you said,” Aizawa gritted out, voice growing darker by the second.

“I’m afraid I meant what I said. There was no mistaking it, that was undoubtedly the face of my greatest enemy. I don’t know how it’s possible, but this is a serious matter. We need to find Midoriya and alert him of the situation, since there’s no way he’s aware,” All Might declared.

Aizawa, still stuck on the revelation, leveled a murderous glare at All Might. “Let’s rewind for a second. You’re telling me,” he hissed, “that the most dangerous villain alive was here in UA, one of the most secure places in the country, and you thought that finishing a parent-teacher conference was the more pressing issue?”

All Might shrunk back in his seat, thoroughly scolded. “In my defense, how was I supposed to alert you without him catching on?”

The statement was rational, Aizawa supposed, but still. The whole situation was just so absurd.

“Also,” All Might coughed, “Midoriya has always spoken so highly of his father. He was telling me yesterday how his father was planning a bonding day for the two of them after conferences. I just thought that my eyes had to be deceiving me, because there’s no way that such an evil man could be such a good parent.”

Aizawa pondered that statement for a minute. “I can’t even begin to understand that man’s motivations, but even villains care about their families sometimes in their own odd ways. This feels wrong to say, but it just so happens that All For One is more… normal than most villains?” He grimaced. “In terms of showing affection, that is.”

“Well, anyway, let’s get back to the matter at hand. We need to find Midoriya and his father, and in the meantime come up with a game plan of what to actually do when we find them,” All Might said, bringing them back to the current situation.

“Right,” Aizawa agreed. “So obviously, the first step is figuring out how to find them…”

All For One and his son were leisurely strolling around, having decided to visit a beautiful traditional garden. The sun was shining, but it wasn’t unbearably hot, which made it the perfect weather for being outdoors.

The pair had hung around outside the ice cream place for a while, catching up on what they’d been up to in the last month since they’d seen each other. Izuku had been eager to tell All For One about his progress in school and life in the dorms, and he had been glad to hear it.

He was comforted in the fact that Izuku seemed to have many friends in the hero course. All For One knew he hadn’t had any luck with that when he was younger, but he was so proud that Izuku was coming out of his shell. And if being a hero was what allowed him to do that, All For One would do his best to support it. He had thrown Shigaraki at his son’s class a couple times, which in his opinion was an easy challenge to help Izuku get real world experience.

However, the current situation that resulted from the parent-teacher conferences was bound to be a problem in the future. He could tell that both Yagi and the explosion kid, Bakugou, recognized him instantly and would no doubt be trying to contact Izuku. Fortunately, All For One had a quirk at his disposal which allowed him to avoid detection, and it could extend to Izuku as well.

So what if All For One had also made sure Izuku’s phone was dead so his friends couldn’t reach him? He just wanted some alone time with his son. After all, kids were always on their phones too much anyway, right?

As they neared the exit to the garden, All For One turned his attention back on his son and noticed he looked a little weary. “Are you feeling okay?” He asked. He didn’t want Izuku to overexert himself, which was a real possibility considering how excited he tended to get.

Izuku rubbed his temples. “I have a bit of a headache, but I’m fine! I must not have slept well enough last night out of excitement,” he laughed sheepishly.

All For One patted his son’s back. “Maybe we could head home a little early and have a movie night at home instead.”

Izuku perked up. “Yeah, that’s a great idea, dad!”

“It’s settled, then. After we’re done walking around here, we can head to the train station.”

Inside the void, the vestiges had run out of creative ideas and were now either screaming at Izuku or each other.

“FOR FUCK’S SAKE, YOICHI, IT WORKED LAST TIME!” Banjo shouted.

“FOR THE LAST TIME, WE ARE NOT BREAKING HIS FINGERS!” Yoichi screamed back.

“Banjo, doing that would cause several problems. For one, it would break his fingers. Two, it would let off an extremely concentrated blast of One For All, and Ninth is currently in a civilian area,” En countered.

“Not to mention the illegal quirk usage,” Bruce chimed in.

A vein could be seen popping out of Kudou’s head as he repeatedly punched various things he could find in hopes it would somehow alert Ninth to what was going on.

Hikage was doing breathing exercises to calm himself down. He had tried yelling, but gave up as it obviously wasn’t working, and now he was very stressed that everyone else was still yelling instead of trying to think of something more logical.

Nana, who had been whispering into the void, also gave up on her method. She looked around at the six absolute disasters surrounding her and facepalmed. At least there was never a dull moment around here.

-

“Wow, look at that move!” Izuku pointed at the screen in excitement. “Her kicks are so versatile, which makes her a really promising new hero!”

He had chosen a movie from a series that made feature films on up-and-coming heroes, and this one featured Miruko, the Rabbit Hero.

Izuku’s dad seemed impressed. “Yes, she looks to be very creative with all of her moves! That’s the kind of hero I like, someone who can think of new ideas and applications for their quirk in different situations. Unlike one who has basically one move with a bunch of different names ,” Izuku heard him mutter.

“What was that, dad?”

His dad laughed. “Oh, don’t mind me, just an old man rambling about nonsense.”

Izuku glanced at him skeptically. “...Okay.”

The end credits of the movie started playing, and Izuku let out a loud yawn.

“I guess it’s time to go to bed, huh?” his dad remarked. “Well, I had the best time today hanging out with you! It’s so nice to be home again, and hopefully I won’t have another lengthy trip for quite some time.”

Izuku leaned over to give his dad a hug. “Thanks, dad, I had so much fun with you too! I’ll be sure to come home on more weekends so we can spend more time together,” he said with a bright smile. “I’m heading upstairs, have a good night!”

“You too!” All For One called as Izuku disappeared into his bedroom. He followed suit shortly after and flopped down in his bed, exhausted from the day. Using Warping several times combined with being out the whole day really took a toll on him.

He closed his eyes, ready to pass out, when all of a sudden he had a startling thought. Wait, did I ever turn off the anti-detection quirk I had? That must have also been a large contributing factor to his exhaustion.

As All For One released the quirk, he thought of Izuku’s teachers and spiky-haired friend. They couldn’t possibly still be looking for him, could they? Of course not . He dismissed the thought. That would be a problem for later. Now, he would enjoy a peaceful night of sleep and think about more fun days with Izuku yet to come.

Notes:

I really wanted to write a scene where all of the people chasing Izuku and his dad met up and elaborate on that shenanigans a bit more, but I didn’t see a point where it would fit in cohesively with the rest of the story so just imagine that in your head as a little bonus scene because it was definitely happening :)

I also couldn’t find a good place to mention this but Inko is away for a work conference! That’s also part of the reason why AFO came home this weekend specifically.

Ok one more thing - I debated for a bit on whether Izuku would know or not, and I had lots of thoughts for both situations, but then I decided him not knowing would be better because then it would also make more sense for the vestiges not to know (like if he knew, they’d probably know somehow).
