Work Text:
Moon drunk man,
your head turned up,
looking towards the lady,
howl your beautiful song
For you have been lost
to the rage in your heart,
the hunger in your body,
the grief in your mind
Your humanity is a far memory,
lost to the hunger in your mind,
the rage in your body,
the grief in your heart
You do not know what
your heart grieves for,
or why your body rages,
or why your mind is so
hungry
Your body deforms,
it bends and changes,
painful snaps, skin stretching,
bones breaking and mending,
mind and body breaking
Breaking?
Me?
I'm breaking?
But i feel fine.
I bathe in the moonlight,
I howl my sorrow-filled song
But...
I'm hungry
Hungry in my mind, heart, and body
hungry in my soul,
hungry for love,
hungry for care,
hungry for my humanity,
hungry for-
...meat
Moon drunk man,
your hunger too strong,
your mind too weak,
your body barely yours
Your hunger is never satisfied,
even as you hunt,
Her light bathes you,
a reminder of what you have lost,
what you cannot remember
There is blood underneath your nails,
the taste of iron on your tongue,
you are elated.
Satisfied.
Finally satisfied.
You hear something.
A name.
Your name.
My name?
But nobody knows me.
It's been years,
surely I've been forgotten-
It's your name.
You know it's your name,
no use in pretending it isn't.
You recognize the voice,
it's the voice of your-
Mom
Your memories come rushing back,
flooding your mind
like a dam broke
You rush to her,
regaining humanity,
clinging to her,
like your life depends on it.
Apologies spill
forgiveness is shared
tears are shed
warmth is spread
You are brought back home,
where you decide to tell your story.
The beautifully sad story of
the Moon Drunk Man
