Shooting star

Summary:

- Can you show me the Orion constellation?

And Orion almost burst into laughter, well, that was a lie, he did, much to Dee's dismay.

Work Text:

He found him sitting at the far legde of the rocks. Elita and Bee had already settled in for the night, despite the urgency of their impromtu "mission". They'd all agree that rest is neccesary. Which is something Dee always used to go on about by the way, after Orion'd return from a skipped recharge cycle to sneak in the Archives.

And yet, here he is.

Golden eyes gazing at yellow stars, the flittering lights gleams on silver metal. The lines on his shoulders relaxed, his legs stretch infront of him. He seems...at ease. Orion thinks, the surface looks good on him.

- Hey. - He said, sitting himself next to Dee, following his gaze to the open sky.

What wonders, the endless stretch of darkness, with infinite lights and galaxies, the way it shines is so much different from the upside down skyscrappers in Iacon. To think they actually here, underneath it all, finally catching a glimpse of the vast world ahead of them.

- Breathtaking, huh? - He nudges Dee, which earns him a chuckle-like huff, that's good.

- What's on your mind?

Dee hums, for a moment, Orion didnt think he'd answer at all. Then those golden eyes landed on him, carrying the curiosity that make Orion's breath hitches.

- Can you show me the Orion constellation?

And Orion almost burst into laughter, well, that was a lie, he did, much to Dee's dismay. He pushed at Orion's arm, half confused, half embarrassed.

- Pax! Don't laugh! Ugh, this is why I never ask you anything.

- No, no, I just - Orion explain, a chuckle still trying to escape his lips, this is what got Dee all sitting alone, pondering through half the night?

- I just - He wraps his arm around Dee, who is now definitely pouting with his arms crossed over his chest, deliberatly not looking at Pax, coaxing him to turn to him. Then he realized.

- I don't know either.

It's true, even though he chose his own name after the constellation, he had only read about it in the data pads at the Archives, he could barely make sense of the directions they're heading if not for the map beacon. The stars seems to also dim with the acknowlegdement, Dee sat still in his arm, silently taking in the lack of what they've never had, never known. His eyes come back to the sky.

- Look, Orion! Dee suddenly perks up.

- A shooting star! He follow the direction he pointed at, and yes, there it is! A dash of light, cutting across the night sky, brilliant and fleeting, just as he have read in the Archives, as what he had told Dee.

- Did you wish?

Oh! Of course, Cybertronians used to believe that the shooting stars were no mere stars, but Giants, Giants who would fly over Cybertron, to protect them from outside harm, to fullfill their wishes. He totally forgot about it.

- Ah, I didnt have time. Orion wistfully sighs, a bit dissapointed.

- Then there is something you wish for? Dee said, that familiar smile on his lips, how Orion adored it.

- Yes.

- What did you wished?

Those eyes, the smile, the way Dee tilted his head, and leaned back on his arms, with the stars bounces off his silver body.

- I was wishing...

Orion found himself chasing after his words, or maybe he was running away from them, maybe this time it wouldn't turn out like that, maybe if he had said something else.

Dee looks up at him, patiently waiting, his image flickers. The computer will soon have no more data to configurate whatever happens next. And then too soon, the hologram fades, the smile on Dee face flashed away as Optimus turns, unable to see him leaving once again.

I was wishing, we were two different people.

The light turns back on, the simulation room suddenly seems too big for one mech.

We were two people, who need not to say goodbye.
