Work Text:
Kaz gently opened his eyes to what he could only describe as the perfect site: Chase Davenport curled up beside him in a state of complete bliss.
This was a rare situation for both participants as Kaz tends to sleep in much later (usually until around 12-2pm on the days where that could be afforded) than Chase whereas the latter prefers to be up at 6am in order to "seize the day" as he once said to the rest of their team after several comments were thrown around about each person's respective sleeping habits. Kaz's eyes danced around the body next to him, jumping from feature to feature, wondering how he ever got so lucky to be blessed with the man sleeping beside him. His attention was immediately drawn to the arm that tightened ever so slightly around his waist as he went to move to check how early he had woke up or how late chase had slept in. Avoiding disturbing his sleeping companion, Kaz craned his neck towards Chase's alarm because God knows it takes more than a few mere chimes to wake Kaz from his beauty sleep. The clock read 07:17 much to his dismay. Knowing Chase would be in a dismal mood that he "woke up late" which is pure insanity in Kaz's eyes, information he's told Chase multiple times, all of which has received an eye roll, he decided to wake him up...
But not before admiring him for a little while longer.
Kaz could never choose a favourite feature on Chase, but truth be told he had always had a particular predilection to the moles adorning his neck. He could stare at the man for hours, allowing himself to take in his strong but gentle appearance, yet his eyes always found their way towards the moles adorning his neck. Perfectly placed in his opinion, begging for him to brush the tips of his fingers, his lips, or even solely his breath over them, never failing to cause Chase's breathing to hitch slightly in doing so.
Forcefully dragging his own eyes away from those moles proved to be more difficult than imagined but Kaz managed, instead his eyes slowly made their way from Chase's carved jawline to the small frown he always had in his deeper sleeps after longer days, to the relaxed breaths coming from his nose, up to his long- nothing less than perfect- eyelashes paired with his straight clean eyebrows that showed a slight crease in them due to him overworking himself as he often did.
Kaz began to comb his hand through Chase's hair letting himself admire the softness of it for a moment before attempting to wake him up by gently applying pressure on his shoulder and whispering his name. Kaz could never be more thankful that his partner was nowhere near as heavy a sleeper as he was. His eyes began to flutter after only a couple of seconds, slowly blinking in the light of the bright room Kaz could feel himself falling in love with those hazel eyes all over again, just like he does everyday, a small smile painted across his features instantly.
Whilst they hadn't officially been in a relationship for more than a few months, they had faced more together than most people had in their whole lifetimes, bonding the pair more than one could ever imagine. The others often joked that they had to have known each other in another lifetime due to how quickly they connected, what they don't know is the late nights and early mornings they spent together out on the balcony after the team was formed telling the other the stories of their lives that seemed years ago but stopped them from allowing them to experience the next moments without hesitation. The hours spent on that balcony began from a simple greeting and the hesitant question on why the other was there- always answered with some form of issues about sleeping- to the small tales of a life that seemed so far away from their new home, into tearing down the walls they had both built carefully brick by brick, exchanging not only their own hardships but closely held memories they cherished, eventually leading to their mutual feelings being whispered into the night only for them to hear.
The time they had spent together on that balcony: sleepless night, shared coffees, small laughs, silent tears, quiet comforts, and hushed confessions. It was almost as if they were built for each other. Chase often wondered if such a thing were possible- not allowing himself to question it much knowing how troubling his overthinking was, he made himself content with the knowledge that it doesn't matter what happened in the past, or what may happen in the future, only that he found Kaz, one of the few things he vows to never let go off. He knows that they would both do everything in their power to keep each other safe, loved and happy.
