“Captain Rogers, sir,” a man greeted, stepping into Steve’s tent, “A letter from the Colonel.”
Steve smiled and took the letter. He’d been serving with the howling commandos for a few months now, and he was, somehow, happy, in spite of the war. He and Bucky had rekindled their relationship, and were going strong. The howling commandos were the only ones who knew, and that was only because it was impossible to hide it from people they both spent so much time around. Steve, still in a bit of a love filled haze, tore open the letter.
Captain Rogers,
I am forced to inform you that you are being accused of destruction of government property. While you are not being charged, we must ask that this not happen again.
Signed, Colonel Philips
Steve stared at it in confusion, his wonderful haze broken. He didn’t know what the letter meant, but he intended to find out. He stormed straight into the Colonel’s tent.
“What is this?” He asked, holding up the letter.
The Colonel stared for a moment, cleared his throat and spoke.
“Just a simple warning,” Philips said awkwardly.
“A warning for what?”
“Destruction of government property.”
“What destruction?!” Steve pushed.
“Sergeant Barnes,” Philips grunted, trying to keep his dignity.
Steve stared in confusion.
“Someone saw a few… bruises, in a spot that could only be intentional.”
Steve took a moment to process the statement. Then he realized.
“Are you talking about… the…”
“Something illegal that we will not be discussing? Absolutely not!” Philips covered, “I’m just giving you a friendly reminder to be a bit more subtle.”
Steve’s face went red. He stuttered a thank you and ran back to his own tent. He buried his face in his hands and wallowed in his humiliation until, at long last, Bucky came.
“Hey Stevie!” He greeted cheerfully.
Steve took his face out of his hands and looked up.
“Buck…” Steve trailed off with laughter when he saw the hickey he’d left on Bucky’s neck the night before, just barely visible above his shirt collar.
“What’s going on?” Bucky smiled when Steve began to laugh.
“The Colonel gave me a warning today,” Steve laughed, standing up and pulling down Bucky’s collar, “It was about destruction of government property.”
“What?” Bucky furrowed his brow in confusion.
“Apparently I need to stop leaving hickeys on their sergeant,” Steve laughed.
Bucky burst out laughing, face red, maybe from the laughter, maybe from the embarrassment.
Steve learned down to kiss him softly. When the broke apart Bucky chuckled again.
“I’m still not used to you being the bigger one here,” Bucky laughed, “I think I need practice kissing a tall guy. Lots and lots of practice.”
“I think I can help out there, Buck,” Steve smiled, sliding his hand around Bucky’s waist and pulled him closer.
“Hm, you sure the government’s okay with a criminal like you gett’n sweet with their sergeant?”
“A criminal!” Steve exclaimed in faux offense.
“Well last I checked, destruction of government property is a crime,” Bucky said slyly, “One of my favorites. Personally, I think you should do it again.”
“Do you?”
“Oh, yes.”
