Work Text:
Kokichi groaned as she writhed underneath the covers. She was constantly switching sides, moving the way her arms and legs were positioned, using her plushie as a pillow before groaning as she cradled it back in her arms, even stretching and curling up her legs over and over again. She just couldn't get comfy.
“Ouma, stop that.” The girl beside her complained as she kept her eyes squeezed shut, her body facing away from Kokichi. Kaito had been trying to pay her no mind, but it was a little harder once Kokichi started audibly groaning at her discomfort. A little harder when she knew that any more of this and Kokichi would probably start kicking her under the sheets if she didn't do something about it.
“Momo-chan is hogging the blanket.”
She stated, which wasn't true. The blanket was big enough for both of them and then some, especially with how small Kokichi was. She was complaining just to complain.
It's not like she would stop though if continued to be ignored, she'd go on and on for hours without intervention. So Kaito only sighed as she flipped herself over to face Kokichi, an annoyed look on her face while she shuffled closer to the pouting girl, making sure the covers were sufficiently covering them both as if it hadn't been doing it's job perfectly well before.
“Better?”
“No.”
Kaito rolled her eyes before closing them again, she'd fixed the ‘issue’ Kokichi had proposed, so now she could go back to ignoring her late night whining. There was no time for this, they had just moved into this new accommodation, and it was already absurd that they'd only been provided one bed without adding the fact that their college had paired Kokichi Ouma and Kaito Momota to be roommates into the mix. Kaito had to get up early tomorrow, she didn't want to deal with this.
Too bad she didn't have a choice.
“Momo-Chaaaan!! I can't sleep!” Kokichi whined yet again, crocodile tears pricking her eyes as Kaito begrudgingly squinted hers open to look at the girl. She was strangely cute like this, but Kaito decided to push that thought down into a deep dark cave she didn't plan on opening ever again. Hopefully.
“Okay. What do you want me to do about that, Ouma?”
Kokichi frowned, whispering a small “don't know.” She pulled the covers up over herself more to cover the lower half of her face before moving them along with the tips of her fingers as she shifted even closer to Kaito. The other girl only watched the smallers pouting and fake tears, then let out a sigh, also moving closer, tangling their legs together, and only half reluctantly pulling Kokichi into her arms.
“Um. This isn't-”
“Shut up, I know it is. Go to sleep.”
Kokichi wanted to argue that no, this isn't what she wanted, she actually wanted the bed all to herself while Kaito slept on the couch…
But It was exactly what she wanted. What she needed, maybe. She couldn't even complain anymore snuggling into Kaito's touch, a pout basically sporting as her resting face while she closed her eyes, she felt like she could stay within Kaito's soft grasp forever. The plushie she had been previously cradling was squashed between the two, slightly limiting their proximity before Kaito flung it away to get closer, ignoring the annoyed yelp Kokichi let out at the action.
In an attempt to soothe her, and hopefully get Kokichi to sleep, Kaito rested her hand that was underneath Kokichi on her head, gently petting, hoping it would get Kokichi to go to sleep faster. She honestly felt like she was taking care of a pet, but she didn't regret the action when she looked down to see Kokichi’s peaceful face, a face so cute that she wouldn't dare think it belonged to her years-long rival.
Fuck.
Kaito thought, despite finally being able to close her eyes and get some rest, to her dismay she knew that Kokichi would somehow be the one to get more shut-eye than her that night.
