I love the theme in Andor and Rogue One of common folks and disenfranchised people rising up to fight fascism. It feels like such a relevant subject these days.
Cassian isn't a traditional hero. He seems almost doomed to fail from the very start. And when we first meet him in Rogue One, he shoots an informant, Tivik, rather than risk his being captured and interrogated by Imperials. This seemingly cold-blooded streak continues and drives home the idea that Cassian is a man who can accept that the ends justify the means. Andor shows us that his original motivations weren't born from idealism like some other heroes joining the Rebellion. Even after he joins up, we can surmise he holds onto that sharp edge of cynism allowing him to be a very effective weapon - one who is also willing to 'burn his life for sunrises he won't live to see'. When Nemik claimed Cassian was his perfect reader, is this what he envisioned?
Hopefully we'll see more of that journey in season 2. In the meantime, here's a vid about following your heart into the fight against fascism. I hope you enjoy it!
