Work Text:
Edynn slipped out the door and made her way back to Andreja. She took Andreja's arm and pulled her up from the chair she was sitting in. Cosmo, who had been lying near Andreja, went on alert and stood up. She barked at Edynn, causing Edynn to let go of Andreja and step back.
“We need to go. Now.”
“Before we have a meal?”
They could hear Mack's footsteps approaching.
“Now, Andreja. Run!”
Edynn and Andreja took off running, with Cosmo hot on their heels and barking non-stop. In the background, they could hear Mack yelling from the patio. But Cosmo kept chasing them until they reached the edge of the property. All of a sudden, the dog came to a halt and plopped down as if an invisible force was preventing her from going any further.
Edynn and Andreja continued to run. They ran until they felt they were safe. They sat down near a tree, out of breath and tired. After a moment, Andreja spoke. “Now do you mind telling me what this is about. Why did we skip the meal?”
“That man was talking to someone. I think he was using some sort of communication device. He was telling someone about us and asked them to send someone over. We had to get away from there. That man could be crazy.”
“We woke up in his barn naked and stole his clothes. Perhaps we are the ones that are crazy.”
“We're surviving. We still don't even know where we are.”
Andreja started to say something but she was cut off by Edynn. “And don't say Earth. We both know that Earth is ruined.”
“Like we know Labs are extinct?”
Edynn rolled her eyes. “We need a plan, Andreja. We need to figure some things out. One thing we need to do is learn how to blend in with the people here. We can't let them know just how clueless we are about this world. I think the sister thing might just work.”
“You are wanting me to continue to be your sister that has the mentality of a small child and must relearn everything?”
“Well, yes.”
“Why do you get to be the smart one?”
“Because I am the smart one.”
Andreja frowned. “I am also smart and know how to survive. Perhaps you should be the sister with the mentality of a small child.”
“Um..yeah. Not happening. Stick to the plan.”
“Why do you get to make the plan? Why must I go along with this humiliating idea?”
“It's not forever, Andreja. Only until we learn more about this place.”
“You need to pretend to be the dumb one some of the time. Why should it always be me?”
“It's more believable if you're the dumb one. I could never pull that off.”
Andreja became angry. “I will not be insulted. I am not going along with your plan. I will go alone.”
Andreja got up and began to walk away. Edynn got up and followed her.
“Andreja!”
“Do not speak to me. I am... parting ways with you.”
“Now you're just being silly.”
“So I am dumb and silly.”
“Yes. I mean no. You shouldn't be alone here. You don't know what kind of place this is.”
“I shall take my chances. You are not a nice person. I do not wish to be married to you in this universe.”
Edynn shook her head. “Ok, fine. Fair enough but we need to stick together here. At least for a while until we get adjusted.”
Andreja and Edynn stopped in their tracks as they reached a clearing. Their eyes scanned the seemingly endless path stretching ahead of them. Suddenly, they spotted something quickly approaching from the distance.
Instinctively, they stepped back and concealed themselves behind some bushes. They watched in awe as the object zoomed past them on the path.
The shiny, metal object hummed down the path, gleaming in the sunlight. Its long body enclosed in sleek, aerodynamic panels, with four round objects spinning beneath it.
