Chapter Text
Merlin had exhausted all his possibilities.
He should have known there would be a catch, but he had to try.
“A Celtic god asking a demon for help?” The man tilted his head. “That seems rather… curious .”
Merlin sighed.
He took no pleasure in making a deal with this demon, but he knew it was his last chance.
The only one he had, in fact. The only one he ever had.
“I want to die.” Merlin said.
The demon whistled. “Sorry, man, but I can’t . You’re too light to be killed, even by a demon like me.” Tilting his head, he muttered. “I don’t think anyone could kill you, to be honest.”
Merlin sighed. “Then bring my friend back.”
The demon clicked his tongue on the roof of his mouth. “Ah, but there’s a problem there! You see, you have no soul for me to take, and as I said, there is nothing that can kill you. Hellhounds couldn’t take you to hell, darling.”
“So what do you want?” Merlin asked.
The demon murmured thoughtfully. “You know, there’s nothing that can kill you, not even an angel.” Then, smiling, he said. “I’ll bring you back your beloved friend , but first you have to do me a favor.”
“ What exactly are we talking about?” Merlin looked suspicious. “What kind of favor?”
“Oh, just stepping into a big battle and keeping two idiots safe.” The demon shrugged. “Nothing much, really.”
“Okay.” Merlin murmured, before saying. “Then you’ll bring back all my friends .”
The demon tilted his head. “ After the favor, of course.”
“You have to swear to me that after I do that favor for you, you will bring my friends back to life.” Merlin said. “It doesn’t matter if I succeed or not.”
“Fine,” the demon said, “but you have to really try. You can’t just back out, even if those idiots tell you to go away.”
“Why would they refuse help?” Merlin asked, confused.
“They’re idiots .” The demon shrugged. “I don’t know what else I can tell you.”
“Fine.” Merlin agreed. “It seems fair. To the best of my ability, and if I don’t succeed, you won’t blame me.”
“I can do that.” The demon nodded. “Shall we kiss the deal, darling?”
Merlin sighed, before saying. “What’s your name?”
“Crowley.” The demon introduced himself. “My name is Crowley.”
