Work Text:
I was a star beneath the lights,
Zanarkand’s roar, the crowds, the heights.
Fame was mine, Blitzball’s pride,
Carefree, laughing, no fears to hide.
Cocky smiles, the limelight's glow,
No future thoughts, no burdens to know.
Then the tides turned—worlds away,
Spira's shores, where skies turn gray.
In a place of sorrow, pain and strife,
I met her—soft-spoken, quiet life.
Yuna, with her pilgrim's grace,
A destined path she must embrace.
But what is this fate? Why must it be?
I couldn’t understand, couldn’t let it be.
She was willing to give it all,
For people’s peace, for Sin to fall.
Yet I could see the weight she bore,
The quiet pain she’d never explore.
I showed her laughter, joy, and more,
Taught her to laugh, let her heart soar.
With awkward chuckles, in moments small,
I promised I’d be there, to catch her call.
A simple whistle, and I'd appear,
To stand by her, to ease her fear.
But her fate was bound to pain,
Still she walked towards the rain.
To marry a monster—Seymour’s grasp,
To save us all, she’d wear the mask.
Yet I fought, I broke through walls,
But in the end, I stood—stalled.
Helpless, frozen, filled with rage,
Watching her lips meet his cruel cage.
For the first time, my anger rose,
Love and fury, tightly closed.
But we escaped, we carried on,
And though she smiled, my rage was drawn.
Then came the lake—a tranquil night,
Where everything felt soft and right.
Under stars, we spoke so clear,
Of dreams, of life, of hidden fears.
Her doubts, her pain, she let them show,
And in that moment, I’d never let go.
I pulled her close, no words to say,
A kiss so soft, it took her pain away.
In that lake, our hearts entwined,
For that brief moment, love defined.
Her beauty—etched into my mind,
Her gentle face, so kind, so kind.
We found new strength, resolve anew,
To find a way, for her, I grew.
No more sacrifice, no death in store,
We’d fight together, forevermore.
Yet the truth loomed, dark and cold,
If we won, my story would be told.
A dream’s last breath, I’d fade away,
But still, for her, I chose to stay.
Together we fought, and Sin did fall,
But in the end, I heard the call.
I felt myself begin to fade,
And with a look of pained dismay,
I turned to her, my love, my light,
The one I’d fought for, day and night.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, voice so small,
"I couldn’t stay, I couldn’t keep it all."
I tried to walk, to leave her there,
But then her voice—it filled the air.
I turned to see her running fast,
Her arms outstretched, but I couldn’t grasp.
She passed through me, her face in tears,
And in that moment, it became clear.
“I love you,” she said, with trembling voice,
In that second, I had no choice.
With fading arms, I tried to hold,
To feel her warmth, so soft, so bold.
Though I couldn’t feel her touch so near,
Her love still lingered, crystal clear.
With a smile, I ran to fade,
Into the sky, where dreams are made.
And though I’m gone, her love remains,
A dreamer’s heart, forever sustained.
