Summary:

An exploration of Flowey's backstory.

Chapter 1: Start of Everything

Chapter Text

A flower wakes up in a bed of flowers. There is confusion on its face. “What… Happened?” it thinks, “Where… Am… I?” It realizes it has no limbs, it seems like it wasn't a flower before. It panics, its screams fill the empty throne room. King comes to see the source of the screams. He looks into the room, only to see a conscious flower. The King's eyes widen. He approaches to the flower, slowly, but he forces himself to see results of experiments. “Maybe it's him. He must come back.” The King stops when there are a few steps left between himself and flower. He forces himself to speak, his voice is shaky, but it is not noticed by the flower.

“Howdy… Who are you?.. Do you… Know who… You are?”

Flower seems like only now it noticed someone else is here too. It seems like it is relived to see the King.

“Dad?.. Dad, what happened to me? Where is mom? Dad I'm scared!”

The King hugs the flower. He burst into tears. His son, Asriel, came back to life in another body. Experiments were successful. There is not something could make the King at that moment. But flower is confused. He isn't happy, he couldn't feel happy. There is something wrong, there's something terribly wrong.

“You came back. I knew you would. My son I've missed you.”

   “I missed you too.”

                                                           -----------------------------------------------------------------------

The King always stayed by the flower's side. He talked, flower listened. He drank tea, flower tried tea. He read books to the flower, flower listened to him. He tried to fill the void that opened after his children's deaths. He gave flower and himself a role to play. They played for a while, until flower grew bored. Flower had to know what happened to his mom. He asked  his “dad” many times. The King always dodged the question. The King was happy, his “son” wasn't.

The flower couldn't feel the happiness others felt. It didn't know that day. It wasn't  “Asriel'' any more. But flower wanted to play the role King gave to him. It tried to feel happy, love, sympathy, and empathy for others. But it couldn't. It stayed with the King for weeks. It wasted its weeks to feel something . Alas, it left the King alone. The King didn't know where it was, maybe it was the best to keep like that. The flower went to its mom, its favourite parent.

The King never learned where the flower was. He investigated, but stopped when it came to RUINS.

                                                ---------------------------------------------------------------

A flower watches golden flowers. Someone it knew long time ago. It misses them. Could it move from what happened? Its and their death? Is this world worth it without them? Flower's eyes shines with its tears. It is so focused on its thoughts, it doesn't notice someone approaching.

“Greetings. I didn't see you in RUINS. You must be new here.”

A woman's voice spooks the flower. Her soft voice is familiar. A voice flower missed to this day.

   “Mom?”

“You must be mistaken. I am TORIEL, caretaker of the RUINS. Who are you?”

  “Mom. It’s me, Asriel!”

“Did… Did I… Drink too much?”

“Mom? Mom, please believe in me! I returned!”

   “…”

  “Mom?”

Woman hugs the flower, tears runs from her face. A desperate person would believe anything that gives them hope. Why did he think she wouldn't believe in him? Before him, a desperate mother was standing. A desperate woman who wanted to fill the void in her heart. If he didn't come, would she replace him?

“My child, you came back… My sweet Asriel…”

  “…”

Flower listened to his mother's cries. Even now, he didn't feel happy to see his mother. But he didn't feel anything while with his mother, what would he do? Why didn't he feel anything? What was wrong with him? Why this happens to him? What was going on? Why didn't it feel LOVE? He must try harder and harder. He must feel something;besides misery, hopelessness, bitterness, and emptiness.

                                                ---------------------------------------------------------------

He stayed with Toriel. Toriel talked, he listened. Toriel ate pie, he looked. Toriel read books about snails, he listened. Toriel filled the void that opened after her children deaths, flower couldn't find someone who understand him. His sibling. He missed them. If they were here today, they would understand. His heart ached when he was looked where they fell down, or they jumped? They didn't have the happiest life on the surface, he wouldn't be surprised if they jumped here. But they were happy! They were happy to be his sibling! Or that was what he told to himself.  Because LOVE is enough to make a child happy! Why, a child wouldn't be happy if everyone loves them? Why he wasn't happy with his parents if that is the truth? Is something wrong with him? Is this what Chara felt?

Flower was on a flower bed, they were Chara's favourite. But was a bump in the middle, as if someone buried underneath. He never saw where his sibling buried. Maybe they were underneath of the flowers? Even if flower's though were wrong, he couldn't care less. He never properly mourned, his feelings got better of him. He spoke to flowers.

 “Chara”

  “Chara”

  “Are you there?”

  But no one answered.

  “Are you listening?”

  “…”

  But no one answered.

 “Please answer me, Chara…”

  But no one responded.

“Why are you dead, I am not?”

  “…”

  “Why…?”

  “…”

  “WHY?”

  “I don't understand… I don't understand…”

  “…”

  “DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE CHARA!”

  “I am not that strong…”

“You are the only one who understand me…”

  “…”

His breaths were shaky. His words were shaky.

  “Why don't you answer me…? Don't you LOVE me…?”

Silence, only answer he got to this far. He didn't understand why he was continuing.

  “…”

  “Why?”

  “…”

He forced himself to speak. His voice was not louder than whisper.

“Why leave me alone? I need you, Chara…”

  “…”

  “Please come back.”

  But nobody came.

                                                           -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone's cries filled the RUINS. No one looked nor comforted the weeping one. No one came.

                                                           -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Next day the Flower was gone. Toriel looked everywhere in the RUINS. But Flower was nowhere to be found. She gave up.

                                                           -----------------------------------------------------------------------

HOTLAND’s temperature isn’t for everyone. The hotness of the place is unbearable to most. Only few lived here for business. Some also come here to sell their goods. But no one here that day.

Flower mumbled to itself. It came too close to the edge. Its expression became more pained. As if it lost someone it LOVED.

  “If I can’t feel LOVE … If they aren’t here…”

  It got too close.

  “Why bother to…”

  Too close, too hot

   “…”

   …

It was hot. It burned in its sorrow.

One moment and flower was nowhere to be seen jumped… Why? Its one wish come true.

 Death

It got what it wished. Death’s cold kisses contradict how it died.  Flower was content with that. It’s desire that fulfilled. Nothingness hugged it. A comfort that was only perceivable only once.

But something in its SOUL, it stayed DETERMINED. Its life couldn’t end like this!

Something waken up in its SOUL. It was artificial, shouldn’t be there, but here it was.

 A will…

 A power…

 A reason…

 A fear…

 It was DETERMINATION.

 Flower screamed at its fate.

“NO! IT CAN’T END LIKE THIS!”

 …

 …

 …

  …

And it woke up at the garden, again. Another chance to do it all over again.

Flower screamed with happiness. It was alive, again. A gift from heaven, another chance. It wished its sibling could have a second chance too.

This time, Flower waited for the King.
