Work Text:
The fun thing about dating your neighbour, Yuu discovers, is that you get to hold hands and walk home together after every date.
Asahi’s hand is big and gentle, and so freaking warm. Yuu seriously loves the hand holding, loves bumping into Asahi as they walk and feeling him shyly reciprocate, but as they approach their apartment block, his thoughts can't help but wander to goodnight kisses.
God, he so desperately wants to kiss Asahi, wants to plant a fat one right on that sweet, anxious mouth.
It's not time yet, though. Yuu is acutely aware that Asahi wants to take things slow, to ease into this together gently, and he's determined to do his part to help. He wants this to be a source of happiness for Asahi, not stress.
They hold hands right up to their apartment doors, and linger on the walkway. Yuu knows he's grinning stupidly, but the bashful smile on Asahi's face makes him feel a little better about it.
“Sooo,” Yuu says, thinking about kisses and feeling like the sleazy boyfriend from every American teen movie. “Guess this is goodnight, then.”
It's not quite a question, but it's not a statement either. Asahi ducks his head, which is very cute and kind of funny, because, given their heights, Yuu can still see right up into his face.
“Yeah,” he agrees. “I had a really nice time, Nishinoya. Thanks for taking me out.”
Yuu grins. “Any time. Seriously.” He feels his mouth start to run ahead of his brain. “Hey, don't you think you should call me Yuu?”
Asahi takes in a quick breath. “If… if that's what you want,” he says faintly. He's being so brave; Yuu wants to climb him like a tree.
“Yeah definitely,” he says, squeezing Asahi's hand right. “Also, I really, really wanna kiss you?”
Whoops. According to the game plan he drew up with Ryuu’s help, that wasn't meant to happen for at least another two dates. He bounces on his toes, mentally kicking himself and preparing a fast apology.
“Okay,” Asahi says breathlessly.
Yuu freezes. “What?”
Asahi's face glows pink in the thin light of the walkway. While Yuu’s thoughts are still buffering, Asahi leans down and kisses him quickly. His lips are warm and a little chapped, and the scruff on his chin catches on Yuu's as he pulls quickly away.
Yuu is so stunned that it's over before he can react at all.
They stare at each other in silence.
“Oh no,” Asahi says. “Oh god, I'm so sorry, I—”
Yuu's brain finally comes back online, and it feels like lasers are beaming from his eyes. “Oh hell yes.”
He gives Asahi a split second to prepare himself before Yuu leaps into his arms, wrapping as much of himself as he can around this big, beautiful man.
“Gonna kiss you back,” he announces, and waits a split second for Asahi to show any sign that he's not into it.
Asahi is flushed, but he tilts his face towards Yuu like a flower towards the sun.
Their second kiss is even sweeter than the first. Yuu lingers, tucking away his eagerness for more so he can fully enjoy the warm press of their lips, the way Asahi huffs a little breath through his nose, the breadth of his shoulders under Yuu's palms.
One kiss flows into another, and Yuu's giddy with it, tingling from head to toe.
“Asahi,” he mumbles, reluctant to separate their mouths. “Come in to mine? I'll behave, I swear! Just wanna kiss you somewhere we don't risk Yamada-san seeing us.”
The mention of their waspish neighbour makes Asahi start guiltily. He's always so polite to her, even though she's objectively horrible.
“Oh god.”
Yuu kisses him again for good measure, and then hops back down to his feet. He cocks his head at Asahi in question. Asahi's smile is embarrassed and pleased, and makes Yuu's spine tingle.
“Yes.” Asahi says, quiet and warm. “Lead the way, Yuu.”
