Work Text:

He could hear a soft melody playing as he quietly entered the room. It was something he often heard on quiet evenings and this time was no different. No one else but Lena would put it up and the atmosphere was perfect for it.

The low-hanging evening sun painted the room a warm orange hue, making it seem warmer than it was. Shin’s eyes quickly caught a figure standing not too far. Her body gently swayed to the gentle tune, the sunlight shining over her frame, making it seem like she was surrounded by a divine aura.

Shin could only stand there and admire her. He couldn’t see her face, but he didn’t need to, knowing what expression she was making as she listened. This isn’t the first time he walked into a scene like this, but it always was a welcome surprise. Each time she unknowingly impressed him. He doubted he could ever tire of it.

He didn’t even realize when he moved, but the next moment he was by her side. Shin didn’t want to scare her as he always walked silently, but his slight touch to shoulder made her flinch slightly. He felt bad about it. Bad for scaring her and for ruining the serene moment.

"You scared me!" Shin's red eyes softened apologetically as Lena smiled at him. She wrapped her arms around him. “Welcome back, Shin.”

“Sorry, I scared you…I’m back.”

Even as Lena pulled away a little, her hands remained on his, fingers closely intertwining. Shin couldn’t help but smile at her. Her silver eyes looked at him with love. Sometimes, he would question himself, whether this was a dream or not. How was he so lucky to survive and live such a life?

The calm melody that was still playing brought them both into rhythm. Hugging again, Shin began to slowly sway with her, soaking in the moment.

They have been together for years, yet their love never wavered. Together they stood strong, supporting each other through ups and downs, even in times of war or peace - they were truly there for each other. Never doubting and giving their all to help as best as they could.

Shin looked at her, remembering the time when she unknowingly saved him during one of his worst moments. It was during war time when they first met. Really met. Like a saint, she arrived and cleansed his darkness. Beautiful back then and beautiful even now. He doubted she would ever lose that beauty, no matter how much time would pass.

She really deserved more than he could give. So much more. And before he knew it…

“Lena, will you marry me?” Melody kept playing, but they both stood still. The question slipped out before he could think this through. But he did not regret it.

A second passed, then a few more, before Shin heard a soft chuckle. Lena wriggled out of his embrace and had to laugh. It was a serious question, yet Shin didn’t dare to get angry. His pout was only encouraging her to let out more of her silvery laughter.

“Shin! We’re already married!” She seemed guilty for laughing at this. She put her hand on her chest and tried to calm herself by taking deep breaths. The same hand that had her wedding ring on it. “Did something happen to ask this?” Her pale eyes were now filled with apology and concern.

“No. I just love you so much… I couldn’t help it.” He looked at her with a thought. He was reluctant only for a second before he spoke again. “Marry me then…again.” Shin took her smaller hands in his, holding and rubbing them gently.

Her smile only depended before she looked down at the rings they both wore. Their wedding was one of the most fondest memories they both shared. A life changing experience. Not only for them, but really, for all of their friends too. A Reaper of the Eastern front and the Queen of the Eighty-Six were finally married…

“Weddings are expensive, you know… And all the other things too…” Lena’s expression became complicated. Possibly remembering all the details they had to oversee and make sure that everything was in place. Even if they had plenty of help, the stress of preparation took a lot of their energy. Everything was like a battle in itself. In a good way, of course! Without serious casualties.

“...No need for a big ceremony. There can be just the two of us.” Shin lifted her hands to lips and gently kissed them.

“Hmmm… Are Fido and TP going to be our witnesses?” She feigned to think deeply, not meeting his eyes.

“Four of us then.”

“What about others? They’ll be disappointed not getting invited, Shin…” He could only chuckle at her attempt to look serious.

“We’ll invite others too.” Shin embraced her once again as they listened to the soft melody. And as they swayed, Shin heard her speak again.

“Shin, of course I'll marry you again.” She looked at him sincerely. “I would marry you thousands of times and more. I love you too..”
