You Bring a Warmth to her Heart

Summary:

She suspects if her blood pumped she'd blush when you're around. And she may be being overdramatic at this point, but she thinks she may be enamored with you. There's something about you, you bring a warmth to her heart and her wishes to rest seem so distant.

Aka Grimora tries to confess to you!

Work Text:

Her ghouls have been teasing her for the past few weeks at this point. Joking that her long dead heart beats once again, and that it's for you. Implying that she's thought of doing things beyond playing Inscryption with you.

And she's begun to fear they're not jokes anymore.

Yes, she suspects if her blood pumped she'd blush when you're around. And she may be being overdramatic at this point, but she thinks she may be enamored with you. There's something about you, you bring a warmth to her heart and her wishes to rest seem so distant.

How could she ever want to rest when continuing to exist promises more time with you? There's peace to be had at your side. Yes, you being in her life makes delaying the end worth it.

But unfortunately, Grimora is a traditional lady. She's never been taught how to approach someone she's enraptured with. Only how to be approached. So she focuses on wearing her best clothes, the few pieces of jewelry she has, and occasionally trying out new make up.

She smiles more than she's used to when you're around, laughs a little too hard at all your jokes. Gets a little touchy as she rests her hand on your arm as you speak. Asks you plenty of questions about yourself, in fact she'd say she knows you better than any of her ghouls at this point.

Very lightheartedly, of course.

But... You don't seem to get her hints.

The teasing from her ghouls is met with her lamenting, much to their amusement. And then they finally tell her to go for it, to approach you. She knew that would be their solution. It's just something that she'd have to be convinced to do.

And despite their meddling, they're very good motivators. They squash her insecurities, talk over her worries, uplift her hopes. By the end of the discussion, she's decided to follow through.

It's what has to be done. And despite her nerves, she's chosen to try when you show up again.

How lucky is it that you show up the very next day? She's nervous, and you settle down across from her as she sets up the board.

Hopefully you don't notice the uncharacteristic way her hands tremble as she places pieces across the board. She tries to soothe herself. You're here, and that's proof enough that you enjoy being around her in some capacity.

You give her a small smile when she glances at you, and she feels herself swoon. She could almost chide herself, you didn't do anything and she's already head over heels...

But that's a good thing. It pushes her to try!

"Would you like to join me for dinner sometime?" she hopes you don't judge the way her voice wavers, she's never done something like this before. And she imagines what she could make, it's been a while since she's cooked a meal. Perhaps your favorite meal? Didn't you say it was-

"That sounds nice, Grimora, but... Can you even eat? Not trying to sound rude," you interrupt her thoughts with that sweet voice of yours.

Oh... She could listen to you talk for hours...

But then she processes the question. She can't eat. Not anymore. Its been so very long since she last ate.

"Oh... No, I cannot," the realization that she embarrassed herself has her deciding not to ask to do something else for a long while. She's sure her ghouls will laugh at her plight again when you leave, but she hopes they'll give her the courage to try again.

Of course, she wants you to know how she feels, but after the sting of accidental rejection has faded. So instead, she clams up and focuses on the game.

Notes:

There's not an official Challenger/Grimora tag?? I need to get over my fear of writing women, that old lady deserves a lot of love.

Anyways one left to go, and it's Magnificus! I'll post his tomorrow! :]
