Chapter Text
Donnie’s Pov:
The lair was quiet while I worked on yet another project that would, hopefully, be useful in future fights. My brothers had all gone to bed hours ago, but I just couldn’t bring myself to leave my work. I had gotten into a grove and just lost track of time. Only stopping long enough to keep my coffee mug full of the liquid caffeine.
I jumped at a sudden zapping noise and lifted my goggles up to see what had happened. When I didn’t see anything, I just shrugged it off and went back to my work.
Not a second later did the zapping noise return. Only this time it was accompanied by an orange light.
I dropped my tools and grabbed my Bo staff as the light turned into what appeared to be a portal of some kind.
The portal stopped growing and through it fell a big mass of green and black. The portal closed and I looked closer at the green and black mass in my lab.
It wasn’t just one mass, but five, and they all looked a little too familiar. “Mikey you said you had it this time!” The red masked turtle groaned as he sat up and rubbed his head.
“I actually got us somewhere, didn’t I?” a smaller turtle wearing orange asked groaning himself.
“I hate to say I told you so. He said sarcastically.” The purple one spoke up while rubbing his head and pushing the other two off his metal looking shell.
“Not the time to be a smartass, Dee.” The girl with beautiful dark skin and puffy pig tails spoke while pushing the purple one off her and onto his face.
“Raph please get off me!” the fifth voice squeaked from under the pile. It appeared some of the black I saw was a cape that was connected to a human boy.
“Where’d you even send us Mikey?” the red one asked and actually looked around. As soon as he saw me, he was up with his weapons out in an instant causing the others to follow suit.
“Who are you?” Red growled.
“I was gonna ask you the same thing! You guys are the ones who fell into my lab!”
“Lab?” Purple asked shocked as he truly took in their environment. “Why does it feel strangely familiar?” he asked then looked back at me staring hard.
I glared right back and tightened my grip on my staff. “Oh my banana pancakes!” he suddenly yelled with bright eyes. “Guys, I think we’re in another dimension!”
“You just now figured that out?” I asked and only slightly loosened my grip.
“Now that Dee mentions it, that one does look a lot like him, doesn’t he?” Orange asked, looking between the purple wearing turtles.
“Gasp! Michael you’re right!” Purple spoke looking me up and down then smirked. “I’m still the better looking one though.”
“Hey!” I couldn’t help but respond to that.
I took the chance to take in the five in my lair. Our counterparts were wearing black gear except the different colored bandanas and the purple one seemed to have a metal shell whereas the others have a normal shell. Red was huge while Purple seemed to be tall and lean, similar to myself. Orange was the shortest and about as lean as Purple.
“Donnie, you ok in there? I heard a loud bang.” I heard Mikey’s voice that was still sleep coated as he opened the door with a yawn and rubbing his eyes.
When my little brother finally opened his eyes, he paused staring at the group in my lab.
He blinked a few times then rubbed his eyes once more before looking back into the lab. Mickey rushed to my side while still looking at the others and suddenly pinched my elbow.
“Ow! Mikey!” I growled rubbing my elbow.
He shrugged. “I needed to make sure this wasn’t a dream.”
“You have to pinch yourself Nitwit!” I yelled then pinched him even harder.
“Ow!” he yelped and rubbed his elbow with a tearful look. Mikey paused suddenly and looked at the others who were watching us with an amused and even soft look in their eyes. “Nope. Not dreaming.” He was quiet for a moment before raising his arms high with a huge smile. “This is awesome! More turtles from another dimension! They look cooler than the other ones though.” He said as an afterthought and moved to be closer to the other group.
“Obviously the most handsome one with orange is the other me.” Mickey said, throwing his arm around Orange.
“I was thinking the same thing bro!” Orange spoke and threw his own arm around my brother. That’s when I noticed his arms for the first time and gasped loudly gaining everyone’s attention.
“What happened to your arms?! They’re glowing orange and have cracks in them!” The air seemed to grow cold after I asked that, and the other turtles tensed with Orange taking his arm off my brother and wrapping his arms around himself. Reading the obvious change in moods I chose my next words carefully. “May I look them over? I promise to be careful, and I won’t make you answer anything you don’t want to.” Orange seemed to think on my words, but I just offered a smile and my hand.
Orange looked to his brothers as if wanting their permission. Red and Purple shared a look before Red sighed and nodded. Orange moved instantly then and took my hand which allowed me to see the damage better.
“Just be careful.” Red spoke and I looked to the other turtles and saw Purple had tensed slightly and seemed to be ready to pounce if needed. I just smiled.
“This is a Mikey.” Was all I said knowing I didn’t need to say anything else. The other four instantly calmed down and smiled at me with Purple moving to my side.
“Mind if we join you?” I shook my head and led everyone to our med-bay. Once there I had Orange sit on a med-bed while I put on gloves.
“What caused these wounds?” I asked no one in particular.
“He was opening a portal. They really hurt him when he does so we only let him open a portal once a month. It allows his arms to rest that way.” I nodded at Red’s words and did notice that these cracks just barely covered older ones.
Red’s words then hit me, and I looked up to the others shocked. “What do you mean portals?! And you’re allowing him to do this to himself?!” Red and Purple growled causing me to release a warning growl of my own.
It was Red who answered yet again. “I guess you all don’t have mystic powers in this dimension.” I didn’t have a proper response to that, so I just shook my head. “And it was either we allow him to do this with limitations and us always present or Mikey was going to do them by himself and could seriously hurt himself… or worse…”
Deciding I didn’t want to know what ‘or worse’ was, though I had a pretty good idea what that meant, I motioned for my little brother to come a bit closer so I could see him out of the corner of my eye at all times and went even gentler on Orange than I was before.
“Luckily these don’t look so bad.” I said which started to ease the tension in the room. “I can see the other scars on him, and these ones aren’t nearly as deep as those got, but I’d still like to clean them and wrap them, so they won’t get infected if that’s ok.” I asked and Orange nodded his approval. I nodded back and got to work.
“Hear that guys? I’m getting closer to mastering my powers!” Orange yelled happily and I couldn’t help but smile.
“Knew you could do it little man.” Red spoke with pride in his voice.
“In my time, well old time I guess, Master Michelangelo said it took him nearly twelve years to master his powers. You’re moving way faster than he did. We really did change the future in many ways.” The only human boy spoke, and I looked up at him.
“What?” That was the only thing I could get out.
The air tensed again, and I just knew no one was going to answer my question. Sighing in annoyance I turned back to Orange and finished wrapping his arms. Once I knew the wraps were snug, I instinctively patted his head before letting him jump down.
“So, you’re the medic hear.” Purple spoke up but it wasn’t a question.
“I am.” I nodded. “You aren’t?” Purple shook his head and looked away while moving his hands.
“He said he wasn’t before, but he has to be now. He doesn’t do good with blood or anything gross like that.” Red spoke up and I looked between the two confused. “He went nonverbal there but didn’t want to not answer you, so he did sign language to let us translate for him.” Red explained.
I nodded in understanding and chose to not push this particular subject further for now. “So, what brings you lot to our dimension?”
“Coming here was an accident.” Orange spoke up. “I was following traces of something, and I guess the feeling I was getting led me here and not where I wanted to take us.” Orange seemed down and I went to comfort him until he let out a bright smile. “But it’s okay now! Because I actually got us to another dimension! I actually did it! Next time it’ll be right for sure!” I could see Orange’s group smiling softly at the boy before my little brother pushed me out of his way.
“And since you’ll be here for a while you can tell me all about your dimension! Starting with this killer power we apparently have!” Mikey said and high threed with Orange. The Orange wearing turtles wrapped their arms around each other and instantly started talking about all the things they were going to do with the month they had to hang out.
“I don’t think it’s smart to leave those two alone.” I said and instantly the group all agreed but everyone was smiling as they watched the orange turtles leave. I felt my own smile too, but as soon as the med-bay door closed Red looked back at me serious.
“Look, I know you have questions. And I guess you’re entitled to some answers since we did just land in your lab out of nowhere, but just know some answers are hard for us. Some we probably won’t ever answer. I need you to know that, so you know if we’re keeping something it’s only ‘cause we don’t want to answer and nothing more. I need to know you understand that. I need to know I can trust you.”
“I honestly figured that out in just the short time we’ve been here.” I answered him. “I’ll try not to pry much, and I’ll make sure my brothers know not to either, but you’re also right about one thing. We need to know a lot about your dimension and just want lead you here, accident or not, so we can help you guys out. Different dimension or not, you’re us, which makes you family in my eyes. I think my brothers will agree too. Even if Raph wants to act like a tough guy.” I spoke.
“Thank you.” The girl spoke and I took her in then looked at the other turtles in the room. It didn’t take long for me to figure out who she was and smiled brightly at her.
“Anytime April.” She smiled brighter and pulled me into a surprisingly strong hug. Over her shoulder I took in the human boy again and felt my eyes widen in shock.
“Casey?!” the boy blushed but nodded. “Great, now he’ll never shut up about how badass he looks in your dimension.” I groaned which confused the boy. “While you seem more mature for your age from the little you’ve spoken to me, my Casey is… well… an idiot. To put it nicely.” I spoke with a shrug.
“MIKEY!” and just like that the calmish morning was over. I sighed and started walking to the door.
“That’s our Raph. The Mikeys must’ve done something to piss him off. It’s actually pretty normal for mornings here. Or any time of the day really.” I shrugged and opened the door for the group to see Raph chasing an orange wearing turtle. I could tell the Mikeys were switching out at random times, but they switched out so fast I could never tell which Mikey was almost caught by Raph before they switched again or took off to get some distance from the angry turtle.
Raph did finally tackle one, though, and luckily it was our Mikey. I’d hate to break the Raphs off each other if the wrong one had been tackled. Especially with fresh injuries.
“Raph!” Raph looked towards me then to the group behind us and frozen with his arms still around Mikey’s throat.
After what had to be a minute the other Mikey appeared with a smile and that’s when Raph groaned, let our brother go, and stood up. “Great! Just great! More dimension jumping shit!” he growled.
“I can’t help but feel like you’ve dealt with different dimensions before. Just a feeling of course.” Purple spoke for the first time in a few minutes.
“It’s a long story.” I told him.
“Don’t tell me you use your Sais to bust open fire hydrants too.” Raph growled looking at Red who looked very confused.
“Um… no?” he said.
“Good.” Raph sighed in relief then walked closer to the group. “Gotta say, I like how big you are.” Raph said lightly punching Red’s arm.
Red laughed and rubbed the back of his head, obviously feeling shy. “How’d they get here Donnie?” Raph asked looking to me.
“They, or their Mikey specifically, opened a portal and accidentally ended up here while trying to get somewhere else.” I answered.
“Opened a portal?” Raph asked looking to Orange shocked.
“Heh heh, yeah…” Orange spoke rubbing the back of his neck and not looking at anyone.
“How’s that possible Dee?” Raph asked me.
“We have mystic powers. Something we quickly learned you all don’t have here.” Purple answered sounding a little bored.
“Mystic powers? That’s awesome!” Raph said looking at Red. “What’s your powers big guy?”
“I can make a huge red form of myself that surrounds me and smash things and have super strength while using it.” Red answered.
“Badass!” Raph cheered punching Red’s arm once more. “You have to show me!”
“Maybe later.” Red laughed.
“What can you do?” I asked Purple.
“I have my super awesome genius brain.” Purple answered sounding very cocky, but it suited him somehow. “I also generate weapons and tech at will of anything I can think of. I mainly copy my own tech and bring out my Bo staff.” At those words Purple moved his hand and suddenly a Bo staff was in his hand that looked very high tech. I just knew I had stars in my eyes as I looked at my counterpart.
“I need to see more of that!” Purple smirked and made what could only be his version of a superhero pose.
“I suppose I can entertain my lesser counterpart with my awesomeness.”
“Lesser?!” I cried out to which everyone else laughed.
“What’s going on in here? I can barely get through my morning meditation!” a new voice joined the group.
Everyone looked over towards the dojo’s door and saw a blue wearing turtle standing there with his hands on his waist.
Before anyone could say or do anything an orange blur was tackling Leo, nearly knocking him to the ground.
“Leo! I knew it! I knew I felt you here!” Orange cried and held onto Leo even tighter.
“Uh… Donnie…” Leo looked up to me confused.
I didn’t answer, I was watching Orange and the rest of his group. Mainly their reactions. Red and Purple looked like they’d seen a ghost, going a sickly shade of green, while April and Casey were obviously fighting tears and April even had her mouth covered with her hands.
It was then I realized something. Something very important that made my throat tighten dangerously. “Your Leo isn’t here.” I spoke softly, almost unsure if I should be saying anything.
Raph seemed to pick up on it too, looking around to make sure no one else was in the room, and I saw my Raph and Mikey both pale too.
“What do you mean? He’s right here! I told you guys I felt him!” Orange spoke pulling from Leo enough to look at the others. Once he saw their expressions, though, Mikey slowly looked back to Leo.
The two stared at each other for what felt like hours, but was only a few seconds, before a sob was heard. Another followed it and before anyone could move Orange ran off back towards the med-bay and slammed its door.
“What the hell did I miss?” Leo asked softly looking at everyone in the room for answers.
I looked back to the others and noticed Purple was now staring blankly at the ground while leaning on Red who was using his free hand to cover his face and seemed to be shaking. April had Casey in a hug while they sat together on the couch with Casey shoulders shaking slightly. April also had tears slowly running down her face.
“Your Leo isn’t here.” Mikey spoke repeating my words. Saying them as if he truly put the pieces together. Mikey looked to Leo then and I followed his gaze to Leo who was going into his ‘Big Brother Leader’ mode.
“I need answers. Now.”
